The only thing I had with this scene was that in the books Percy is beaten and has to get shoved into the water before he's able to take down the Ares cabin. In this scene he just kinda improves? Watched the first 2 episodes and enjoyed them. The performances were great, and the casting ranged from OK to great. Overall, I'm very happy so far. My main issues came from Percy's mother's writing. One, I felt like a huge info dump was placed on her and could have been handled waaayyyy better. My 2nd and biggest problem was Sally's interactions with Gabe. SPOILER FOR NON-BOOK READERS!!! She came off as way too confrontational. She was aggressive and challenging. What I LOVED and respected about Sally in the books was how she swallowed her sadness and anger towards Gabe for the sake of Percy's safety from the magical world. She was at the whim of Gabe because she needed his stench to mask Percy's godly scent. In the show, her attitude was very much challenging and I don't think it sits well with her character to risk the stability of her toxic relationship with so much at stake. Gabe is a cruel, selfish narcissist and, in the books, she worked hard to maintain his satisfaction at the expense of her own.
@Miyanoai145 ай бұрын
I heard Disney purposely scaled down how abusive Gabe was because it was triggering to some kids. On the one hand, I’m glad, bc I felt Sally’s excuses were kind of weak compared to putting Percy in that situation, but on the other hand, atm I really don’t think he deserves the fate he gets. But we’ll see how he behaves later/if they even keep that in.

To me, it makes sense that Clarisse backed off. She’s the daughter of Ares, and I think she would be fair. She knows that she could punch Percy, but since she lost, she accepts it and backs off. Clarisse isn’t just a mean character, but a character that wants fairness but still wants to be seen as tough.

I haven’t watched the video yet and don’t know if he mentions it, but I’m wondering everyone’s thoughts on there not being the hellhound that he has to fight. In my mind it is a very important moment because it indicates that things are getting serious and that someone at camp is evil. When the hellhound comes for Percy, Poseidon realised he needs to claim his son and send him on the quest or else the monsters will keep coming and he’ll die.
@ajerqureshi64115 ай бұрын
That is a fair point. No hellhound means no hint at the traitor and no serious real reason for Poseidon to claim Percy. My best guess is that since Percy was already getting a lot of attention especially from a Fury and the hints with her water powers were becoming obvious, Poseidon decided to claim him since it was clear the “jig was up” if you will.
@jostewart31925 ай бұрын
@@ajerqureshi6411 he didn’t want to risk making Annabeth and by extension Athena seem foolish or wrong so he stepped up. That makes sense to me. Just wondering how they’ll begin building the traitor blocks.
@deanxiii15955 ай бұрын
Yeah. I was waiting for the hellhound attack scene but no such thing happened. As well as the campers kneeling when Percy was proclaimed Poseidon's son
@maitreyi34665 ай бұрын
Having seen the episodes, these are my thoughts: According to Kronos' plan in the book, if Percy died on the way to the Underworld, he fails to stop the war between Zeus and Poseidon. If he made it, he would be framed as the lightning thief in front of Hades. This would confirm the allegations that he was working as Poseidon's agent and convince Hades that his Helm of Darkness must have also been taken by Percy, starting an even bigger war among the Big Three. I know that Luke was supposed to secretly allow a hellhound into camp in an attempt to murder Percy, but does it really make sense to jump the gun and kill your potential scapegoat? As for the traitor, the prophecy is enough for TV Show Percy to realize the seriousness and be on his guard. He knew he would have to select his quest mates carefully. That lead to him choosing Grover, because he was sure the betrayal would never come from him, and Annabeth, because he didn't think they could be friends in the first place. This is better than them volunteering and him just accepting without a second thought, as it unfolds in the book. His lack of concern about one of them being the traitor is a bit surprising. Besides, rather than the hellhound attack, the biggest motivation for his father to claim him was so that he goes on the quest to clear his and Poseidon's name. This was also mentioned in the book. Overall, I think both changes are an improvement to the storyline, which is hardly surprising since Rick Riordan himself is overseeing this.
@rileyburnett7205 ай бұрын
I think it’s simpler and i actually expected it to be cut. The scene in the book is gory and very violent. Hell hound basically rip his chest open (person mentioned he did not want to look but he felt a warm wetness speeding from his wound (blood) and that he knew he was badly hurt , that is not something to show in a PG film.

One thing is to have fidelity to the book, and the other thing is to transfer a complete stoic story with a narrative not too much descritive to the screen hoping that will work without interference. Doesn't work! Look at the series! They change the story and add a problematic child in the young Percy engorging his dilenma which is just told by him when he introduces himself. And about Gabe? Wa made by the book?! In the movie Joe Pantoliano is ten times more Gabe than this "new character" that pass ten miles to look like a drunk bully! Not to mention that all school passage was cut short to the point that you don't feel any empathy in the relationship between Mr Brunner, Grover and Percy! And about Annabeth? Where's the girl who take care of Percy while he was sick bed and try to take informations from him? And about Luke?! Where's the popular talkative receptive sympathetic guy , cool and beautiful that makes Annabeth blush? I have the same surprise seeing this Luke that I had seen WB's Victor Krum! A wrestling guy who suposes to look like a tall, skinny hunchback teen. Sorry Ryordan... There's no by the book not even in a series, because the producers knows that if the follow the book brobably the final product will be something cheap and last entertaining than Hercules or Xena. By the way... Start to learn that not all 12 years old kid can acting like Redcliff or Ema Watson. That will explain why all the children on the scene are looking like they are suspending their breath.
