@phynnie
@phynnie Жыл бұрын
Thank you. It's ridiculous how some rural places have decided to urbanize and Kiambu is the worst example. I live in Minnesota which is much colder than Kangema and would gladly retire and live in a place like Kangema without question. It's such a beautiful countryside and that cold is nothing as long as you dress well and keep your home heated. My goodness, I've never seen a clean river in Kenya and Kangema people should keep it up. Don't ever copy the madness that's going on in Kiambu. We must protect our rural locations instead of trying to urbanize every space like developed countries.
@daviddavis7959

Alot of lessons to learn from these folk in Kangema. They can not live without cutting down trees for fire wood but yet their tree cover is the most in Kenya at 14% and improving with the aim of achieving 17%. What if the charcoal business was regulated like this whereby certain areas are designated for charcoal harvesting as long as the people are planting more trees than they cut. Kenya can have a lucrative sustainable charcoal business and even with the possibility of increasing tree cover. michuki showed us the way. Strict enforecement from the county administration from the village chiefs all the way up and the people have bought into the plan because they see the benefits. Why cant each county replicate the same? God bless michuki he was a visionary, wish we could have 22 michuki's in cabinet.

Very good of the reporter to highlight some unique environmental facts which are rare in many other parts of the country - serenity, clean river water, forest cover, and regular rainfall. Had he ventured a little deeper into the forest, he would had a chance to see some wildlife - elephants, buffaloes, leopards and the very rare (black and white) Colobus monkeys. 10:52 - the location is Tuthu, not Karurumo and the name of the river is Mathioya. I'll volunteer to be your tour guide in your next visit and you will be sure to take with you home some trout and a pack of processed tea leaves.

That clean river is Mathioya South River or Mathioya ma Iyego in the local dialect. Mathioya North River flows in the neighbouring Mathioya Constituency and is known as Mathioya ma Gatua Ciuma by the locals. It's just as clean as its namesake in the south. The two river confluence a few kilometres from Murang'a Town where some of the water is diverted to a tunnel that is under the town. This water joins Maragua River to form Wanjii Dam where Kengen generates hydropower. The now combined Mathioyas (what remains after diversion) flows eastwards and joins Sagana River. Maragua River then joins in to form the early stages of River Tana.

I dont know why no one thought of planting high value fruit trees in this area. Certain high value fruits do well in cold areas like this . Grapes Strawberries. Blueberries. Sweet cherries. Apples. And the beauty of these fruits is they do not require much land to make good money. If each household can set aside an acre to plant the same fruit trees lets say grapes and form a cooperative they can be ripping big besides their other farming activities. Hopefully an investor is watching this. Straw berries, blue berries and sweet cherries are very sort after fruits in Europe

The biggest problem in muranga right now is population density, you will handly find any house hold with extra 1 acre which is available, most of land is planted tea leaves. most people are left with 1/2 or 1/4 acre to do everything else. very very few families have morethan 3 acres of land in total, and it get subdivided every 25 years due to inheritance issues.
