That hippo is from river Athi/Sabaki/Galana, when the river is full during the rainy season, it swims upstream and during drought or low rain, it moves down to the estuary where water is permanent and plenty of mangroves to graze in as well. The hippo cant swim into the ocean though, it only reaches where the fresh water and salty water meet. We used to call it the point of confusion(I grew up in Malindi, so I know the place well). Even the fish they are catching are getting confused right there at the estuary. No fish or hippo or any other water animal could cross over the point of confusion because of osmosis. If the hippo or fish from river Athi move into the ocean, they'll be dehydrated through osmosis-molecules of water/nutrients from their body move thro semipermeable membrane/skin from a less concentrated into a more concentrated ocean. And vice versa, if animals from the ocean move into fresh river sabaki, they will absorb a lot of water and other molecules into their body. However, I must also say that there are creatures that are able to balance the concentration and can survive on either side.

@@maureenogaye7323 Tiuda should be the right english pronounciation but natives who were swahili speaking used a swa intonation hence chuda! Watu wa msa watacheka wakiskia vile amesema ingawa yuko sawa. Hawajazoea hivyo! Just like Naijas pronounce Olusegun as Olushegun, Ivorians pronounce Quattara as watara! Since that royal dude lived in msa as a native, locals called him chuda.
