I thought the first film was crazy! This one just brought a whole new level of toxicity to it I have never seen in a film before. Not going to lie though it was super entertaining seeing just how many times these characters could emotionally manipulate each other or do something just plain insane. Enjoy :)

I think Bella went months in a depressive state, barely eating, barely sleeping- so I guess she kind of lost it and she starts hallucinating Edward whenever her body senses danger cause of how often he told her that he would always be there to protect her and that his job was to keep her safe 😭

To be fair to Jasper, he was in his home. He was comfortable around Bella, so didn’t feel the need to use his powers to be in soldier mode like at the ballet studio.. that’s why everyone was so on point. He can calm people down, influence them. That’s what was with the weird look he gave her when Alice gave her the dress at school. He was putting Bella in a more accepting mood for a gift/party. He also feels everyone else’s feelings… so when Bella started bleeding? He got their blood lust. Poor guy was going through it!!

People tend to laugh at Bella screaming in her sleep, but they forget that she was traumatized after being attacked and tortured by James. Before, Edward was there every night to take care of her while she slept. Now she is alone, if she has nightmares remembering that moment there is no one to calm her or console her.

Yeah I like this explanation. She's extremely traumatized even if she doesn't think so herself in the books. But I think she's also said to be dreaming of being stuck in the pitch black forest again and being totally lost&confused and terrified just eternally searching for something.. and that's when she screams. And she's had weird dreams always since moving to forks, in the first book she felt unreal bcs it was like she moved to a different planet lol :D

I'm sure others have already mentioned it, but Edward's appearances in these scenes are Bella conjuring the image of him. He's not actually there - Edward did in fact leave her be and did not contact her during their time apart. The movies didn't convey that properly enough unfortunately 😂 I'm glad you're having fun with it, though I'm still hopeful you'll enjoy the next few movies (Eclipse especially!). Some parts of the story are actually quite good, so I hope you enjoy them moving forward!

Even if it’s a bit silly to watch, I really connected with the portrayal of depression in this movie, it was so accurate to my own experience. The feeling of just sitting and dissociating as the months and your own life passes you by, not taking care of yourself, not thinking about or feeling anything even when you’re aware that it’s not healthy.

Yep, had a very similar experience after being in a relationship with a master manipulator as a teen. They strip you of your identity until your whole world revolves around them. Then when they leave, you're left with nothing. No friends, no future, no interests, nothing. How they portrayed the nothingness was so accurate. And in my case, the screaming was accurate too.

The deeper explanation for Bella's depression is actually that she's going through addiction withdraw. Edward explains in the first movie that his venon is made to attract people to them, changes their appearance, their smell, all of it, to make the hunt easier. She tastes the venon every time they kiss (reason why every time they kiss she basically attacks him), she's exposed to it every time they are near each other (making it easier for her to sleep if he's in the room with her). And then she is cut off from it. Like a drug addict being cut off from drugs. So she is in pain, she is having hallucinations, she feels like she can't survive without it. And then she starts her recovery process, and gets better, she learns how not to let that control her life anymore. It is a tiny bit deeper than just unhealthy codependency.

@TheMermaidBru
@TheMermaidBru 8 ай бұрын
@@El_Ezra_Meitar5 I mean, to be fair, the movies don't make it too clear. It's more about the books and what is in between the lines. Like how the story in general isn't about choosing Jacob or Edward, but about being in that moment of your life that you feel like you have to make the difficult choices, and you have to choose the easy and safe path, or the path that will completely change your life. And how sometimes you're forced to make those choices while you're way too young to understand how it will affect the rest of your life. And learning how to deal with what life throws at you once you make those decisions. But the love triangle and the hot supernatural beings sell the story, so they are the main focus. Idk, I've read the books and watched the movies way too many times, so I started picking up on some things that are there, we just overlook most of the times.

@TheMermaidBru
@TheMermaidBru 8 ай бұрын
@@yeahno8294 not explicitly at all, you are correct. But it's not about what is explicit, it's about what is in between the lines. If you read paying attention to the underlining tones, you will see it. Edward mentions in Twilight about the venon being extremely enticing for humans, Bella talks about how tasting him in her tongue causes a frenzy in her body and she wants more, she talks about how the way he smells when they are laying in bed is calming, and when he isn't there she can't sleep well, etc. An then in New Moon they make it so clear that this is what she is missing, and how not having that is causing her physical pain, etc. So yes, it isn't writting in the book as a drug addiction with those words, but it is there.
@yeahno8294
@yeahno8294 8 ай бұрын
@@TheMermaidBru he's talking about them and their alienness is alluring to humans and he says when a vampire bites a frenzy begins for the vampire like with a shark when they smell blood in the water. When he's having his rant about how dangerous he is he is saying everything about him is designed to draw in his prey his look his voice even his smell meaning he's like a human like Venus fly trap designed to draw in his prey. He doesn't say anything about vampire venom being addictive he says it's actually very dangerous because it's poisonous to humans so when he kisses her it's not that she's getting addicted it's more like he's got to restrain himself from flowing venom because if Bella were to ingest it she would turn lol I do like your theory and it would have actually been a pretty good way of explaining Bella's sever reaction after he left if Stephanie had actually put it in the book but it's literally not in there. Bella has trouble sleeping when he's not there because she's so worried he's going to leave her or get tired of her that she clings to him. I'm pretty sure when she's saying she taste him on her tongue and craves more it's really just her getting overwhelmed with the love of her life and the hormones going overboard. When people feel love they emit pheromones that appeal to their partners and vice versa. It's not venom addiction it's basic human attraction.

Jasper’s weird look at the beginning when Bella is upset about Alice’s gift is him using his power on Bella! He can control people’s emotions, so he made Bella feel better about receiving the gift

Bella commented about it too, but considering her "power" that should not have happened. Bella could block Jane's pain power but not Jasper? Not realistic (I know this is a movie, fiction, etc, but still).
@rskyBindy
@rskyBindy 8 ай бұрын
@@w1975b In the books the explanation for this is that Bella only blocks mental powers (edwards mind reading, jane making the brain think its in pain etc) and apparently jasper doesn’t control actual emotions but instead the physical reaction that your body has when you experience those emotions, so things like your pulse quickening, certain chemicals being released etc, and so his power is technically physical control of the body and not mental manipulation which is why he can affect Bella, but I don’t think the movies goes into his powers at all. Some people still don’t like that explanation, but it does technically make sense, it’s just more of an odd power than it originally seems

I think the fact that the book explains things in more detail and why things are the way they are is what they left out of the movies that makes them... a little funnier than intended. The reasoning for the vampires being sparkly is to lure in their prey (I get distracted by sparkly things all the time, would work on me lol) They could have *shown* this attribute with any of the human eating vampires and show it lures humans to them... but they kinda ditched all that and they just sparkle... sometimes... but mostly Edward.

These are notes and responses to you that I typed up while watching your reaction. It’s been a while since I read the books, but I think her nightmares all center around Edward being nowhere. She dreams of the places they would go and he’s never there. When he left, he hid all the gifts he gave her under her floorboards. She doesn’t even have pictures of him. It must have been described in the book better because I remember feeling like her nightmares were so impactful and meaningful and how horrifying it would be to experience that but as I type this, I can’t fathom it that way. The screaming seems excessive. LOL time and distance, I guess. In the book she didn’t ride a motorcycle with a stranger. All she did was cross the street until she realized they weren’t the same people then she turned around and went back to Jessica. I think they wanted to make it more dramatic and visually interesting for the movie. The relationship with Jacob was not about getting Edward’s attention. She was trying to do things that were dangerous because when she did, she would hear Edward’s voice telling her off and she didn’t experience the same level of emotional trauma from that as she did from actually thinking of him and talking about him. In the book she never saw him until she was in the water. She never wanted Mike to think she was interested. She wanted the movie thing to be a group thing but everyone else got sick. Mike was sick at the movies and in the book, Bella spent the next 24 hours on her bathroom floor also being sick. I agree these relationships are toxic, but I think they were less so in the book. They seem to amp things up for the movie. Jacob became a wolf for the first time the night of the movies. Bella was not thinking about wanting a relationship with Jacob. She was thinking about how much it hurts that Edward is gone. She was thinking about what she had lost. She never really considers Jacob as a serious relationship option. Edward is not reappearing. That is all Bella’s imagination. He has no control over it. Nor does he know it’s happening. In the book Jacob thought it was Carlisle on the phone. That scene with the red cloaks at the beginning wasn’t a dream. It was just the movie showing what would happen later. Don’t know why they thought that was necessary. In the book when she stops him from showing himself, he thinks he’s dead and they are meeting in heaven. It takes a few seconds before he realizes that they are both still alive. In the book there was no fight when they were with the Volturi. They just talk and threaten a lot. Obviously, the movie people wanted more drama and visually stimulating stuff. I don’t remember the leading-on of Jacob being so blatant in the books. I feel like she was pretty clear that she wasn’t interested and only wanted to be friends. He just wouldn’t accept it. It’s possible I’m just not remembering clearly. It’s been a long time.

I think a big point to make here is that the movie is not as centered around Bella as the books are. we don't get any different perspective until the last book. the whole time we hear and see things through her eyes. so, I think that's why it feels more genuine, her intentions I mean. but looking from the outside in she does take adventage of him big time lol I love both the books and the movies. but I totally see your point! I guess that's the thing about adaptations from a first person view written books :)

I think that they never explain it, but the reason why Jacob (and the other werewolves) are always shirtless is because his body temperature is higher than that of a normal human, so he is always too hot, and also because when he turns into werewolf, his clothes get ripped, so wearing less is better. Another thing that didn't translate from the books to the movies is that Bella is not feeling comfortable as a human, that's why she can't even fit with her friends, and when she discoveres the vampires, she feels like this is the right life for her, this is what she was born and destined to be, a vampire, and she can't wait to live her real life and be her real self. Her gift also hints that she is meant to be a vampire, not a human. And last, the relationship between Bella and Edward is not really love, but more like a supernatural drug addiction, both of them. Edward even said that she is like his personal heroin. They are supposed to be the perfect prey and the perfect predator, attracting each other more than anything else. It's not a normal, human love and relationship, but an uncontrollable supernatural physical attraction dangerous for both of them, but they try to make the most of it and survive. They are like a juicy fly and a colorful carnivorous flower, not a two lovebirds. Loved your reaction, you seem to get it all right and I laughed a lot with you.

For me, there's 1 huge difference between Edward and Jacob: Edward respects Bella's choices. She said multiple times that she doesn't want anything romantic with Jacob and HE KEEPS PUSHING. He not only tries to convince her, but also repeatedly disregards her feelings. And before you mention that scene where [SPOILER] Edward breaks Bella's car, remember she was trying to go to the middle of the woods at night when a psychotic vampire was trying to kill her.

I always thought that Bella's depression would've been better if relationships with a vampire created a type of bond that, when broken, makes the partners feel like this. As if being around vampires causes some sort of physiological change the longer you're exposed.

Jacob can be even more toxic than Edward, btw!! 😂 "Sorry I shouldn't be laughing, this is serious" LMAO (proceeds to giggle right after). SHE'S SCREAMING LIKE KATNISS DID AFTER THE FIRST HUNGER GAMES you're gonna KILL ME ahahahaha Charlie is best character for real. JACOB TAKING OFF HIS SHIRT IS GREAT OK LOL It was one of the scenes released before the movie and everyone was freaking out. I read the book before watching the movie and I was simply freaking out. And Im so sorry for live commenting but this is just too good, I love this movie AAAAAAAAAAA

In the book, Bella was in a catatonic state: meaning she was under so much "stress" her mind shut down. I like to think of it more as "withdrawals" from Edward. Remember, everything about him invites others in. He's like a drug that she's being weened off of. Hence the hallucinations and risky behavior. Jacob was correct when he stated that Bella would have moved on if EC had stayed away a bit longer. Personally I'm Team Alice!

SOmethiing they dont make clear in the movies is she always felt like she never belonged or fit in with humans, and so thats why she was so on board with becoming a vampire its also why her blood smells so good to vampires especially edward and its also why she already has a power, a shield, to protect her from other vampires powers.

Edward was NOT astral projecting!! Bella’s was just straight up hallucinating. It’s crazy to me that so many people think Edwards being manipulative. And side note: he was in the same clothes from Bella’s birthday when we saw him in Rio, barely eaten. He was very depressed also.

For sure. I think it was a combination of the cinematography, the actresses age (an adult) and the fact we haven’t really gotten to see Edward and Bella together very long that made it seem a little funny to me. As for people in general who go through that for real, completely understand.

If you ever find yourself struggling to watch twilight, just know that no one dislikes these movies more than Robert Pattinson himself 😂 The movies portray super toxis behaviour. Bella has no personality apart from Edward and I wish they didn't romanticize such codependant relationships among teenage girls. In my teen years I was in a relationship with a guy whom I made my only personality trait, I lost all my interests, hobbies and distanced myself. It took me 2 years to recover, find myself and get my personality back after the relationship ended. It was one of the hardest things to undergo. Cinema therapy's videos about twilight are very interesting, I definitely recommend watching them!

In the books she has so much more personality though! It's way more clear that she defines herself through being clumsy for example... And I'm sure she has at least one more trait! I really don't understand why I loved these books so much as a teen, they are ridiculous :D

Edward was not actually communicating with her- she was imagining him there and it’s much easier in the books to understand those scenes when Edward appears…. When he finds out she was doing dangerous things on purpose to “see” him, he is shocked and they skimmed over that part in the movie

i'm sure you know by now that Edward was never really there. He was conjured up by adreniline, (sp), pain, and desire. Only when Bella was in danger were all the ingredients there to make her hallucination or vision or whatever manifest. so it wasn't edward keeping her from moving on. the book explained this better than I did. it also explained that the more she was with Jake, the more she healed, and she does love him and is not trying to manipulate him. it's just that she is IN love with Edward, and it's not the same as what she feels for Jake.

38:08 Why is it up to Bella to determine if a guy friend likes her too much? She has made it clear that she wants to be with Edward. As a female engineer, I have tons of guy friends. If they like me and just being my friend hurts their feelings then I feel like they should make that choice for themselves. If I had to guess how each of them thought & what they could emotionally handle, then I would just give up and have no friends.
@thecocoacouch

That’s totally different 😂 Jacob has declared his love to her. Also just saw Eclipse and he sexually assaults her so there’s that. Bit different to just a casual guy friend.

I don’t think that’s what he’s saying? More that Jacob isn’t a very good friend to Bella if he’s only interested in her romantically and can’t put those feelings to the side to be her friend. Women deserve people who appreciate them and want to be around them without trying to control them or crossing their boundaries
@KB_-_

@@thecocoacouch I totally agree the assault is crazy. But if he likes her and she says I like my boyfriend … then he stops their car in the road to talk to her, I feel like he needs to check himself. I don’t get why it’s Bella’s job only to set the boundaries.

@@evelynsweeney8309that makes sense! Maybe I’m just tainted by some of the convo around the movie. Girls should be able to be friends with guys without people saying you’re leading him on :) Bella has her bad moments for sure! But I gotta defend the the girl-guy friend dynamic lol. So many assumptions about it has caused such a head ache for me in engineering.

Oh 100%. You shouldn’t HAVE to do anything. I think we agree 😆 it just seemed in the context like Jacob was just in it for her romantically and (in my opinion) that’s when she may have to step in and say hey, this isn’t okay. It’s a lot different if it’s in the context you mentioned you experienced.

I have to say again that I’m impressed on how well youve understood both these movies so far. You’re doing a great job and I’ll say it even for a guy lol I am very impressed. Except the only thing you did misunderstand was Edward appearing and disappearing. Edward was doing that he doesn’t have such a power. Bella was just so depressed that she would hallucinate him anytime she was in danger. So that’s why she figured she should keep doing dangerous things so she could keep on hallucinating him. So yeah not healthy at all.

So after about a decade I'm rewatching the entire saga. I sorta watched them through an idealized lens when I was younger since I was obsessed and I wanted to see how I feel about them now with a fresh set of eyes. Turns out, they're a whole lot less cringe than I was afraid of, and I loved New Moon this time around when I wasn't the biggest fan back then, mainly bc I was all about Edward and he was barely in this one. A lot of people may try to use qualifiers like "I know these are cheesy BUT..." but I say you don't even have to use these statements at all since we don't do that with most other movies. Just enjoy what you enjoy and let that be that. Can't wait to see you continue the rest of the series! It's gonna be a wild ride lol.

I am 100% loving your reaction. This is fantastic ❤ I actually was turned on to the book series by a coworker when I found out they were making the movie I was intrigued. I had a 18 hour trip to Hawaii she let me borrow the first book in the series and I got sucked in, no pun intended. 😅 I don’t know what it was about it but I just I couldn’t put it down. I was in Hawaii and every night before I went to bed I would read twilight. Finished twilight while I was in Hawaii on vacation went to Walmart bought new moon, but then got so angry at the characters not even halfway through new moon. I put it down and didn’t pick it up for three weeks. My least favorite book of the entire series it had to happen, but I did not enjoy it but the books and the movies to follow are absolutely some of my favorites. The characters grow the story grows you get sucked in it’s great.

I personally think we all throw the word toxic around too much sometimes. It’s so easy to do, but sometimes it’s just horrible accidental situations.
