Joe and Will Lawrance were identical twins who shared most everything, including an incredible gift for artistic expression. They also each suffered depression that led them to take their own lives. Now, their parents, Mark and Jan Lawrance, want their late sons to be remembered for their remarkable artwork (now on display at the Indy Art Center in Indianapolis), which they hope will give comfort and inspiration to others. Correspondent Jim Axelrod reports.

Bless your tender hearts. Your lovely, lovely and dearly loved boys. As someone who struggles with depression and has since childhood (I am 68), I humbly thank you for opening your hearts to others. Take good and gentle care of yourselves and enjoy the "winks" you receive from JoeWill. Their art is breathtaking!

One soul that chose to come in two identical forms because they were so full of light... Many times the density of being on planet Earth is too much for sensitive souls. I know, I came very close to checking out when I was 37 years old. Depression is hard, especially when those that are suppose to love you don't understand and don't support you. Depression is especially hard when it's more a spiritual thing. Blessings to Jowill 🙏💕🕯

I'm a twin. My sister and I are mirror images. Growing up we had our own sign language, verbal language, eating habits, etc. As with this family, no one could tell us apart. The loss of my twin is unfathomable to me. She is my other half. My heart and prayers go to this family and to those who have lost loved ones.

Why is it that those who are the most talented & creative seem plagued by depression & those who are banal thrive? The “Happy Couple” scene in Annie Hall sums it up:”I am really shallow & empty and have no ideas,and nothing interesting to say.”

This was one of the most intense segments I have ever seen on CBS Sunday Morning. Powerful and humbling and emotionally draining all at the same time, and yet extremely inspiring. Such heartbreak and such talent. It was infinitely sad to see them separated from one another after the initial tragedy. Twins share a bond so strong that I doubt we will ever be able to fully grasp its overall reach and impact. God bless JoeWill. Please keep 'winking' at and watching over your parents! 💕💕

There's an increasing abstract sadness to many of the pieces...it feels like there could have been more family connectedness and discussion as time went on before their depression became intractable.
@LeighJames-dk6vp
@LeighJames-dk6vp Ай бұрын
As depression deepens and settles in more tenaciously, the idea of "family connectedness and discussion"---family or anyone else, for that matter---however lovingly and well-intentioned can be difficult to bring about. Depression is very isolating, emotion and energy draining. Being present with yourself is difficult enough, much less anyone else. Even your family. Its presence and inner pain become as constant as the beat of your heart.

@@karmicsheila63 yes, because it is good to point out that the two of them were suffering from the separation and should have been put back together. Did they checked them at their colleges? Maybe the college environment was not the adequate for their them.. @@jimrebr @jimrebr I understand all too well. I am an artist, I am disabled, I've had suicidal thoughts and during my deepest and weakest time I have attempted suicide - but, thank God I failed! At 54, I have been through much in my life. I know that everyone has problems. Everyone gets lost at some point and many times they find their way back.....sometimes they don't. My point was that since God was taken out of schools, taken out of society and taken out of social consciousness, more and more evil finds its way to more people. For one to have a rock, a source of stability (religion/God), a moral code and the knowledge that there is something after this life - both good and bad, is a powerful strength. The knowledge that there is something else after this life is a strong incentive and reason to not give in to the incessant evils that plague us all. Those without the stability and morality give in to the evils that are ever present. I know that everyone has weak moments and times where they'll give up. Life, at times, is hard going, but having God with you makes all the difference in the world...and eternity. 🙂
