I was in Louisville band for five years & being able to be in the in field during this moment 5 times is something special that I’ll carry for the rest of my life.

Absolutely a MUST DO.. have done a couple times but nothing like the first time, not even from Kentucky and the song will choke you up when you’re there

Every time I hear my old Kentucky home it makes the hair on the back of my head stand up .this is what American is all about the owners and the trainers working hard all year long to get hear to run for the roses I love the Kentucky derby .

God bless Kentucky today witch should have been the running of the Kentucky Derby but we’ll have to wait till September for the run for the roses and the drinks in and and to hear my old Kentucky home I so miss it today I was looking forward to the race today lots of emotion but we’ll see ya in September churchhilldowns.

as living in Kentucky i am devastated that they just announced that they are not singing it anymore because it is somehow rude because it talks about slavery and some people are offended. i get why they are but they weren’t all these years and now they are. im sitting here crying it is part of the biggest tradition ever and now it is going away.😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭

Awesome- Hello from Newfoundland, Canada. One of the Sports events i never miss. Read somewhere that it's the oldest sporting event in North America, started in 1875. That's incorrect. The St. John's, Newfoundland Royal Regatta is the oldest-started in early 1800's.

B c white people attend the horse race This song is a lament for a slave that had been sold off to work I. Deep South sugar plantation, and thus rupturing his family, he being the father and husband For whites to twist the song and sing it as a pleasant sentimental missing home song is the height of ignorance

"Nyquist won the race for three-year-old males"??? The Kentucky Derby is for 3 year olds, full stop - colts, geldings and fillies - males carry 126 pounds and females carry 121 pounds. Just because there were no fillies entered in 2016 doesn't change the race conditions. Jeesh! Twinspires you should know better.

Yeah 3 fillies have won the Kentucky Derby. Regret in 1915, Genuine Risk in 1980, and Winning Colors in 1988.

most of the people that go to the derby arent KY natives. Churchill pushed out the locals and the locals typically go to the races that tuesday through friday (before the derby)

I couldn’t tell if there was a choir singing or if that was just the audience, but if you’ve ever heard a stadium sing along with the national anthem, there’s always a slight delay because of the time sound takes to travel. It’s distracting as the listener but if the mics were recording singers closer to the band, we’d have a much more synced up recording :)
