Not gonna lie I love the plot point that Otto can size up basically anyone except his own grandson. His entire scheme relied on his grandson being weak and being unable or at least unwilling to think for himself so that Otto could effectively be the king behind the figurehead. And that one lynchpin is the one he screwed up by underestimating his own grandson when he could peg everyone elses intentions in the entire seven kingdoms. Otto was so focused on putting his grandson on the throne he never stopped to ask himself if his grandson should *be* on the throne.

Ive been saying this for the longest daemon and Otto r two side of the same coin. They are upset with their kings and queens because neither listen to them, they both want to be in control, and when they not in control they both over step. The only difference between them is that they use different tools to attack their enemies. Daemon uses the blade and otto has his tongue. Anyone else notice the parallel with rhaenyra calling out daemon manipulation in this episode like how Alicent confront Otto with his manipulation in episode 9. She's right. It's not about Otto wanting to be right, it is about how the realm sees each side. Otto plan was to make Rhaenerya look bad,cruel even, (that's why they use the funeral to there benefit,even tho is wrong) just so that they can turn the other houses against her. He even said word is being spread to other houses about it and give it time and people will join Aegons cause. But for Aegon to hang not one but all the rat catchers, innocent and the one guilty. That makes him look just as bad. People will turn against him like Otto says, there are doing it already because of the hangings...Because say a cook trys something against Aegon does that mean he's going to kill all the cooks in kingslanding just for that one cook...most likely. So why would people want to serve under a king that can just murder innocents, an not blink an eye, or feel its "okay, justified even" because he got the one guilty one. There is a council for a reason.

They lost viewerships in respect to ep 1 of s1. needs to be looked with some perspective, because its a comparison between first episodes of seasons not whole season. A lot of people tunned for the first season to see what it was about and some didnt like it to stick for the whole season. So of course they wont stick for s2 ep1. But still 7.8 million viewers only in the US is still a massive success. Down for 10 million (is not that bad).

This 2 ep are set up for what is to come in ep 4.... which is the one that is battle episode. I will wait to watch the whole season to value it entirely. There a lot of events this season that are still to be seen and a lot of characters needed to be introduced like Hugh the Smith and the black brothers that will have relevant stories later on...

Hate to double comment but there's so much here and I love the ambiguity of the final fight! It could still be either one of them! With the brother sent to kill Rhaenyra he wasn't making it out of that castle. And they are clearly quite close so it would've torn either of them apart to kill their brother. Erryk, the one you guys refer to as the good one, has that scene with Daemon last episode where they're kingsguard and fiercely loyal to the royal family despite them currently being split. Alicent immediately passing on the inability to comfort a child is wild.

I'd argue that the smallfolk do know her pain quite a bit. Their sons and daughters are subject to even more cruelty at the hands of the crown quite regularly. Punctuated pretty nicely the crying mothers of the ratcatchers. I do think that perspective is being focused on more in these first two episodes. These people are fighting over a chair based on what family they were born into and everyone has to be dragged into it. Like for example Rhaenys killing scores of smallfolk at a coronation they were forced to attend just to threaten the king before flying off and not really sparing a thought on it. I also really like Shawna's pants. And i like your question about how Criston will cope with being hand? My prediction? Not well! He might burst.
