Got this from an online lesson with Rob Cheney, transformed my ball striking. The hanger training aid is the best instant feedback on the amount of twisting required. The added bonus is that twisting early prevents a cupped wrist at the top.

Eric, been playing golf with a fade all my 30 years. I'm off 5 and get it around quite nicely - but - after trying this today, bloody hell, draws have come out of nowhere & I never hit draws!! Been playing golf for over 40 year's and had lessons over the years as well, not many if any talk about wrist angles, it's all about grip posture and alignment and pretty swings that aren't functional. Why do I say this it's to get you to have more lessons. Keep up the great work very informative just wish I could visit. From the UK.

wow it just seemed like The twist while trying to keep your lag would be difficult On the downswing. and I've been trying all sorts of things lately and these are great lessons Eric, But it's hard to adjust in the rotation at some point And try to not get fixated on that, until it becomes part of the swing Through lots of practice. but yeah when I do it right it absolutely crushes it sweet as can be. It's weird how you gotta completely retrain the body when you haven't done things right years ago and you pick the game up again. but you've got a lot of great videos out there I have to watch, thanks much

Yeah, good video and was surprised not many videos on this topic. I also like how you have given different options to allow students pick the one that works feels best for them. Would be good to link this in with how the arms should be moving in transition ie I’m working on this twist motion with arm extension/lowering (my feel is arms are moving in direction of my right pocket ie behind me - reality is it helps me get on plane when you factor in hip rotation with a good ie not open clubface) 🙂

This is probably my favorite drill from you Eric. I've gotten much better ball contact with my hybrid and fairway woods hinging my right wrist back a bit. Hence closing the club face more. But I still tense up sometimes on the course and shank, lol go figure. I'm just more comfortable with my long irons.

What I do is set the club down on the ground with the face closed 30 to 45 degrees. When I address the ball I square the club by rotating it to the right with my wrists. Hitting the ball with my hands ahead of the clubhead, the clubhead is square when it hits the ball. This works most of the time. You need to experiment with how much you close the club face initially so it is square at impact.

Great video, I’ve found if I’m going to “twist” on the the backswing (which I also don’t like), I have to hinge the wrist more to stop me getting too flat behind me. I like going back with the club head neutral but outside the hands, then I’ll twist away during transition 👍
@nicholasincardona3853
@nicholasincardona3853 3 жыл бұрын
Great video and I agree with Dougie about taking the club back neutral, then twisting. I watched one of your earlier "twist-away" videos, experimented with it, and it has helped me immeasurably. An added benefit that I have noticed is that when I twist the grip at the top of my swing, my right elbow tucks nicely against my rib cage... preventing "chicken wing." I don't think about it... it just sort of happens as a result of twisting the handle at the top of my swing. If golfers are trying to incorporate this move into their swing, they need to make certain to rotate their hips through their swing (clear the left/lead hip).

Hi Eric: Great video. I also enjoyed your videos with Tom Saguto. The twisting of the wrist is to help us have a bowed lead wrist at impact (as I understand it). Can you clarify at what point in the backswing you prefer the lead wrist to get to at least being flat or slightly in flexion? Thanks again for all your videos and for sharing the knowledge. Very helpful.

EC, this is terrific information and you get into it in great detail, and I've been looking for a in-depth discussion of face angle at top, and its impact on the swing. Do you think it's fair to say that, with an open clubface, higher handicappers mostly come over the shot to hit pull slices, where low handicappers hang back, no turn and flip/throw loft to square the face? So we all respond to the face I guess is the moral of the video.
@CogornoGolf
@CogornoGolf 3 жыл бұрын
100% agree with that statement yes. Good players FIGURE OUT how to make it work (because their good) with stalling the body, standing up, no turn, lots of late arm rotation. Not as good players swing over the top and slice :)

@@CogornoGolf Um my lead arm is usually more across my chest which causes my body to over rotate and my hands get behind me. I think my lead forearm rotates too much which causes me to get laid off. I can practice the feel of keeping that elbow down but everytime I add any speed I revert to my usual swing. My trail elbow is always lower than my lead elbow. I've tried two different coaches online and while they have fixed other things, this is still plaguing my game. I've never felt what it is like to be open at impact. It's frustrating. If you weren't on the other side of the state I'd come for lessons.

Eric, you keep pushing LiveView golf, but their camera seems very outdated. 60 FPS at 640 x 480 res is unacceptable in 2021, especially at $350 USD. Does it even clearly show the clubface on playback? I don't doubt it is extremely useful to see your swing immediately after recording, but they need to drastically update their hardware. Most smartphone cameras these days will do 120, 240, and even 960 FPS at higher resolutions. I think with a little research, most golfers would rather take the time to walk over to their camera, and analyze it with V1 golf or other similar apps rather than spend that kind of money on early 2000s tech. Love your videos! Thanks for all the tips!
@CogornoGolf
@CogornoGolf 3 жыл бұрын
Hey! Appreciate the kind words and thoughts. I keep pushing it because it's still the only thing I have seen where you can see yourself live as you are hitting and have the camera right down by the ball do you can actually swing in posture (compared to mirror). Of course you can walk back and check (and there is nothing wrong with that). But many people (myself included) will happily pay $350 to see myself AS IM SWINGING not after. Even just the rehearsals to me makes such a huge difference. Seeing myself AS I practice, not after. World of difference. I find with 98% of the golfers I work with the frame rate is plenty good to see the big picture things we are looking at but I agree ideally it improves more over time!

Well, I'll agree with you on the takeaway. But if you have to "twist" it closed on the way down something is terribly wrong and you'll never be any good. Ben Hogan twisted it open on the backswing and twisted it to close it on the downswing. Demaret, Trevino, Nick Price, Moe Norman, Peter Thomson, Mac O'Grady, George Knudson and many more twisted it. In fact, Mickey Wright, probably the greatest ever LPGA player, said that 'curling her knuckles under at transition' was her main/core swing thought, and that if she did it, she hit it best. Curling knuckles under was her way of saying to twist the shaft.

@@555Trout Well, instead of ad hominem attacks, I would think you would debate the point... where am I wrong? And I am indeed certain that what I said is true, as the twisting of the shaft is an external focus which then creates the internal result of left hand supination and right pronation, which all the great ballstrikers did, and do. No one, no great ballstriker ever "lead with the heel"... you hit the ball with the face. If you lead with the heel, you stop the body, stand up, throw loft at the ball, and flip through impact. And to you point on ability, I've played and studied golf for 40 years, was good enough to play Div 1 college golf, played in US and US Mid Ams, and won statewide tournaments.
