This movie is one of the most impactful movies on my childhood. To this day i still love meteorology because of this movie. I wanted to go to OU after high school but i could not get into their meteorology school cause you need to be the top 5% of your high school class. but i tried because of this movie

This film was up there with Jurassic Park for me as a kid. Great characters, stellar perfermances all around, great visual effects for the time, amazing one liners. Great to see this film finally get a 4k release. RIP Bill "The Extreme" Paxton and Philip Seymour Hoffman. "IT'S THE WONDER OF NATURE, BABY!!"

This 4k remaster even on digital is fantastic. To have a 30 year old movie look and sound like it came out recently was such a treat. I adore this movie and will look forward to having fun with the sequel in the same spirit. I hope they kept the adventure vibe.

This 4k remaster was insane! Loved the changes that the director made to the sky and getting the look he wanted. The atmos was insane and I'm glad you share the same thoughts I had with it about it being one of the best out there.

You talking about inviting someone to listen to your system after they ask "Why do you have so many speakers?", etc. reminds me of when I was "showing off" my system with the Days of Thunder VHS and Dolby Surround. You took me back in time! :)

Back in the early 2000's I had a 32" Loewe planus TV (with the base unit) in white. Top of the range pioneer DVD player, Yamaha DSP-A1 home cinema reciever rogged up to a set of B&W speakers. When people came round, they were in awe looking at the TV and the speaker's dotted around the room. Twister was one of the 3 movies I'd demonstrate to them the picture and soundtrack. The other 2 movies being Armageddon and the matrix. After I finished the demo I'd find people still sitting there, silently wanting more.

Heard they originally wanted the “going green screen” to be properly green like the tornado phenomenon. But Jan didn’t have the tech at the time and was super thrilled to finally add that in properly for this film. It’s not even revisionism. And if it was what the director originally wanted then I am more than okay. It fits narratively and it’s not overboard like Lucas’ cuts of Star Wars.

There is a video by CarStarz on KZfaq talking about 10 facts about the Ram Trucks they used while filming. Apparently all of them got destroyed after filming. Some had different engines. They had to use gasoline engines because the Diesel engines were too loud for filming. Even the trucks were slightly different depending on what scene you are watching. Sound was apparently piped in after the fact for the engines to make them all consistent.

Hey Jeff When i worked at Circuit City back in the day..Twister and Jurassic Park were among the first DVDs released to showcase that 5.1 sound..and they started Demo rooms specifically to showcase the sound and picture of these 2 movies..thats where the terms Demo- disc and Reference sound came from..People heard that and said wow i need 5 speakers and a sub to duplicate that sound in my living room at home..Started a whole surround sound industry with of course Dolby Atmos being the latest and greatest. My Dvd of Twister saw so much action so its great to see this in 4k and Atmos its a day 1 pickup for me..The old surround sound guy!! Great video review Jeff thanks.👍👍

This is a VFX and audio masterpiece, but for me, this is the movie you put on if you want to illustrate to anyone just how good of an actor Philip Seymour Hoffman was early in his career before he started headlining movies. He absolutely disappears into what could otherwise be a thankless supporting role for giving exposition and comic relief

@@bassage13 yes, it’s a terrible role in a movie full of broadly-drawn caricatures, and it’s not the acting that he aspired to and would go on to do. However, he threw himself at an absurd part (that he probably hated playing) with vigor and it in such a way that it took me years to remember that he was even in this because I thought Dusty was played by some crappy one-note actor who got typecast in his only payday

The tint you were referring to is when the director tried to get the sky to look green in the original versions of the film. In this remaster he was able to tackle exactly what he wanted and get the sky to look the proper green that was intended.

I saw this in theaters on opening day with my ex wife and loved it. Bill Paxton was such a wonderful actor. I preordered the steelbook when it first went up for preorder and I love the slipcover so much that I just ordered a copy of it from Gruv 🤣🤣 Glad that this film was done some justice on the 4K restoration. It’s a beloved film by so many including myself. Thanks for the review Jeff!

Got the 4K Blu-ray and watched Twister for first time today. Wow, the Atmos was top notch, movie was fun and highly engaging. How did I miss this in the 90s?? A must buy for any home theater fan. Sounded amazing in 7.2.4 audio. We need more movies to sound this good!!

unless i am doing something wrong.. it seemed to only play in 5.1.2.. i played the movie on both 4k blu ray player and xbox series X and it never touched my in ceiling speakers in either play.. most other movies play in full 7.2.4 for me..

I went to see "Twister" on opening night just a week after I turn 11 and I had a blast! The tornadoes are spectacular on screen full with incredible special effects and has a great cast and wonderful score and soundtrack! One of the best summer blockbusters that year along with "Mission: Impossible", "Eraser" and "Independence Day". The sound is amazingly discreet and loud, too! I have it on VHS and Blu-ray and I would love to pick up that 4K UHD especially for that amazingly new Dolby Atmos track!

First, I gotta say I was lucky enough to see this in the theater, and I thought at the time it was awesome. I remember DVD was such a new format, and I was an early adapter to the format. During that time, I was a manager for BLOCKBUSTER MUSIC. My location was one of the first out 4 locations in Indianapolis to carry DVD. I was actually responsible for ordering inventory, so as soon as Warner Brothers released it, I snagged 10 copies. Warner Brothers had limits. I made sure I worked that day so I could get one. The crazy thing is I never bought the Blu-ray when it came out. So I'm really looking forward to picking this one up on 4K UHD. I'm glad to hear Warner Brothers did it right remastering the film. Thank you again for your review it makes me so ready to see it again.

Well, this is a must-buy. It's my brother's favorite movie; he watches it a few times a year, and I've seen it a hundred times myself. We just got back from a trip to Oklahoma where we visited the location where they filmed the drive-in theater scene. There's not much left, but a few buildings visible in the scene are still standing. Good to know the 4K does this movie justice! It's a very fun, unique highlight of the '90s and deserves to be a quality viewing experience for today's audiences.

Does anyone know when walmart or target r going to start selling twister 4k in stores? i went on realese date to 2 differant walmarts and the employees didnt even put them out yet. i went back 3 days in a row and still there not in stores. there not sold out. they werent even put out. there r no stickers saying twister 4k. after a week of trying to find a copy in stores i ended up ordering a copy on amazon and when it came the disc wasnt working, i had to return twister to 4k and get my money back. Im still waiting for stores to start selling twister. i dont know whats going on with this release

I was fortunate to have seen this film in the theater opening night, and the audio was truly a life-changing experience for me. Incredible movie and epic performances from everyone. One of the best films featuring Bill Paxton and Helen Hunt, and so many supporting actors from Philip Seymour Hoffman to Cary Elwes, Alan Ruck, and Jami Gertz. And Mark Mancina's Americana score mixed with the backdrop of Van Halen's "Humans Being" song...you cannot beat this film. Cinema gold!

Well, I just purchased a physical Twister 4K and now it's not playing on my Panasonic 4K player. It will appear on the menu screen and when I pressed play it goes dark to the Ultra 4K player. I've updated the firmwire and yet it won't play the movie. Anyone else having any issue with this? I hope I don't have to buy a different player just for this classic movie.

Twister was one of the first movies I had bought on VHS, then one of the early movies I got on DVD. It has always had a special spot for me as one of those great 90’s Summer Popcorn Action flicks. I would say in the same category that I put Independence Day. Just fun watches over and over. I am thrilled this movie got the proper treatment with sound. And how you couldn’t have seen this movie??? 😳😳😳 And the cast (many of which were early in their careers)? Super stellar cast. This is one I need to pick up. I am looking forward to seeing Twisters!

Jan de Bont is Dutch. His name is pronounced “Yawn” not “Jan”. He also directed Speed and was the cinematographer for several standout films like Die Hard. This is why his movies are so much fun.

I believe this was one of the first movies ever released in 5.1 and when I saw it in the theaters that sound was so freaking awesome. That low ominous growl sent chills up my spine. I still don’t have an atmos setup yet, nor do I have this movie in my collection 🤦‍♂️ Amazon here I come 😂.
