And women, they are considered woke as fuck (if they're portrayed in a way that they're not a lifeless blown up sex doll they can jerk off too). The word „Woke“ is actually simple: Let’s say you hate something for a dumb reason, for example, you don’t like women, gay people, black people etc. Of course you can’t just say that you hate it because you’re sexist or racist, but if you simply say it’s „woke“, it feeds into a broader conspiracy that companies are „trying to destroy Christians/„family values““ or something along those lines. I think it's pretty cool that the gameplay is different when you play as Zelda. As Link you use weapon and fight the enemy head-on showing that you are courageous and brave, and while playing as Zelda you use your mind more often for enemy encounter using the environment to your advantage, basically showing that you are wise and smart.

I'm SUPER hyped for this new game! My main concern is the open-endedness, to be honest. Most of TotK's puzzles felt trivialized by the game's powerful mechanics, and the lack of linearity made the story lose some of it's impact, imo. So I'm hoping they can find a good balance between open-endedness and structure.

@@nevermore7285Yes for "Woke", it had the meaning of a person who is aware of societal injustices towards minorities, as in someone who is not asleep, not about a piece of media pushing a political agenda, that is already called propaganda. Mary Sue on the other foot never had any meaning beyond bullying people who wrote fanfics someone didn't like. The only thing that's changed since the term was invented in the 80s Star Trek fandom is that people now apply it to published works, not just fan fiction. It was never good or helpful.

I have a strong suspicion that Link will be saved and become playable at some point in the game, likely able to be switch between him and Zelda. I mean, we see in the opening intro this whole encounter with Ganon that appears to be actual gameplay, as well him doing a jumping spinnattack. Why would they code and animate an entirely new move just for a single tutorial boss then ditch him? Seems unlikely

I have a serious question about some of the responses. When the actual frick was the last time that Nintendo did anything that could even be remotely considered to be tied to the "woke" agenda? Barely an hour after the game's announcement I saw someone comment "Zelda [the franchise] is dead." It's funny to me how some people are treating this like it's the last Zelda game ever and they're upset it's not exactly what they wanted. As far as I'm aware, there are going to be more Zelda games. If this isn't exactly someone's idea of a fun game, then don't worry, there will be more in later years?? There's no need to get so worked up-just don't play it. This is likely not the last Zelda, and it's GOOD that they're changing things up. I guarantee you people would be complaining if The Legend of Zelda continuously did the same thing over and over again. I'm pretty sure that's half the reason Skyward Sword was so disliked, because people were getting bored of the repeating gameplay (also motion controls but that's irrelevant). I also remember how Wind Waker also got a ton of hate for its art style among other things, and now it's widely regarded as one of the best. I find it pretty funny how history consistently repeats itself. Anyway, I'm excited for the new game :]

This game is just Nintendo’s way of covering up the CDI games, you can’t convince me that this isn’t at least some of the intent.

There's no such thing as getting covering up the CDI games, they've already been so ingrained into internet culture through YTPs and such. Plus I don't think Nintendo really needs to worry about those games because they didn't make them. They just gave the rights for the Zelda IP to Philips but had no direct involvement. It's not like they ever actually acknowledged they ever existed anyway since they came out either.

The small amount of people claiming it'll be woke are either grifters or are too poisoned by bad female rep to recognise recent good ones. Most of the gamers who assume things are woke are more trusting of Nintendo(at least of Japan), and have wanted a Zelda(playable character) game since before 2016. They'll most likely make videos like "This is what *real* female representation is" like they did with Princess Peach Showtime.

"Woke" is a term often used by right wing people (or conservatives) on the politcial spectrum. It's to rag on anything they deem as too progressive or too appealing to leftists. (AKA Liberals) Most often used to refer to any form of representation or progress made for minority groups. The most common use for the word "Woke" is to refer to the LGBTQ community (especially to trans people), but is also often used referring to racial minorities, and women. In this context, people are calling the game "woke," because it has a female protagonist in a series where the protagonist has always been male. People think its too feminist.

1. I love the Links Awakening remake art 2. While in some cases there being a female protag is woke because its done in a stupid way or make it that women are better than men that isnt the case ALL the time. Heck look at Metroid.
