Watch the great Wales full-back JPR Williams score two fantastic tries as Wales defeated England in the 1976 Home Nations. The first sees the big full-back barge over after taking a super JJ Williams pass, while the second is a superb cut-back line against a wheeled scrum and an English defence that had clearly been worn down over the previous 80 minutes!

I'm English but those Welsh players from that era were truly phenomenal, just real men wanting to play at the top of their game, not money orientated just for the love of rugby and representing their country... gentlemen all.. I salute you and was humbled to have watched you. Fantastic.

This man was such a threat to our team, every time he played us. His skills were unbelievable, he played with passion and he was a true gentleman both on and off the pitch. This was a time when my mighty All Blacks team were never certain of victory against wales and it was players like him and Gareth Edwards that even hardened NZ fans held in awe. Rest in Peace JPR, you were a true example of how the game should be played and a true role model for so many others who followed. Much Aroha (love & Respect) to your Whanau (family & friends) .............. safe journey my friend. Big Jim (New Zealand).

I'm an Englishman and i fell in love with Rugby whilst watching the Great Welsh team of the 70's but the one JPR move i'll always remember is the 99 call of the 1974 British Lions - South Africa tour, you could see the call had been made when the fists started to fly and JPR standing just inside the Welsh 22 ran to nearly the halfway line and launch a huge punch and the South African player hiting the deck whilst JPR troted back to his original position as if nothing had happend, RIP JPR Williams the World of Rugby will never forget you, BRILIANT, MAGNIFISENT, AWESOME, SPECTACULAR is there realy a single word to describe JPRA WILLIAMS?

people ask why rugby had died in wales . i served with the welsh guards and used to tour south wales with our team . i remember mountain ash had 12 teams , nowadays they would struggle to make 1 . i think the biggest reason was the closure of the mines . people lost their jobs and couldnt give a damn any more . the small towns and villages where the breading ground for the clubs . also the mines gave the men a high degree of fitness . the heart has been ripped out of wales . i am an englishman (saesneg) but always loved the welsh . cymru am byth .

RIP JPR. A slight correction, the six nations didn’t come into being until 2000 when Italy was brought into the tournament, so this was either in the five nations or possibly the home nations tournament. It doesn’t change the fact that this was at the height of the Welsh national teams supremacy in the tournament, and JPR was one of the best fullbacks to ever play the game worldwide, an absolute genius, and that is saying something………I’m English.
