Almost 100km of piste and off-road, with a summit at 2,910m the R704 between M'semrir and Agoudal is a challenging drive and is often featured in lists of the 'top 10 dangerous roads'. Can these two ageing Hymer motorhomes make it all the way?

Great to see this as we started to drive this road 3 weeks ago but had to turned around as so much snow ans where it had melted it turned it to mud. We will Try it again next year. 😄

Hi Rob, we were lucky that we were there just after the snow melt, so just passable at 9,000m summit, but boggy. What vehicle are you in? We were fine in a twin tyre 4.6t rwd but ride height was iffy in places as we descended and we had to tow out our fwd friends as you can see! It’s not strictly a 4x4 only route, but it gets close at points. It’s a difficult drive and long but not particularly technical. I’d highly recommend it in the right conditions. :-)

TinCanFamily We have a Mercedes SWB 609D 2WD, I was very upset to have to turn around but it was the right choice on the day. Next year 😄 I did have two campers for a while but sold my 1989 Hymer S550 just before going to Morocco.

Hello and thank you for posting such a great video - which makes us wonder if what we are planning is a good idea! In January, we are hiring a normal small car from Marrakech to drive a loop to Ouarzazate to Skoura and the up the R704 to Imilchil and then back to Marrakesh via ait bougemez. I saw donkeys, 4x4s, hymers and motorbikes in your video - do you think a little town car would make it? Many thanks and happy traveling.

I'd be a bit wary in a regular car. We had rear wheel drive and twin wheels on the rear. I don't think a regular small car would survive this road too well. You could go a fair way up, but where the R704 turns to unsurfaced I would avoid. There are alternative routes to do a similar journey though. I'd check with the locals. Good luck and have fun!

I just made the road with a Peugeot 108 and I'm still alive and so is the car. So yes, it's possible but not recommended.

Why not? We risk assessed it with a view to making sure we were as safe as possible. Far greater risk in daily road crossings on the walk to school back in the UK! Teaching kids how to do adventurous things in a safe way is surely an important part of growing up.

Becuse the kids will remember that for the rest of their lives, I was lucky to travel all over the UK and Ireland in the early 1960's when I was very young, the travel bug never goes away.
