Today we're using Cranberry honey from Flying Bee Ranch to make two different recipes! One of them is a Cranberry Traditional mead and the other is a Pineapple, Hibiscus and Cranberry Honey mead. Cranberry Traditional Mead:
2.5 Pounds of Cranberry Blossom Honey
Water Up to 1 Gallon
2.5 Grams of Lalvin QA23
1 tsp of Fermaid O
--- Stabilized --
.5 Pounds of Cranberry Honey to Backsweeten
Cranberry Blossom, Hibiscus & Pineapple Mead Recipe:
2.5 Pounds of Cranberry Blossom Honey
3 Pounds of Pineapple Chunks
4 Grams of Hibiscus in 2 cups of Water
Water Up to 1 Gallon
2.5 Grams of Lalvin QA23
1 tsp of Fermaid O
-- Stabilized --

Excellent video, my dude. Cranberry mead is a staple to make this month because it will be ready by November. The slightly bitter cranberryish aftertaste is everything.

So funny I just finished a cranberry mead last weekend. I live in Wisconsin where we have have a ton of local cranberry farms. did a traditional and another using cranberries in secondary. Both came out great!

I giggled at the sight of the ‘dead’ pineapple. Both my dogs and my cat are avid rodent hunters. I live out in a rural area and my neighbour has a lot of chickens, ducks and other fowl. The grain and kitchen scraps he feeds them attract rodents. Not an issue for me thanks to my pets. However when I make a fruit mead and throw the fruit onto the compost heap, those rodents come to feast… and my pets noticed that drunk rodents are easy to catch! Whenever I chuck out the spent fruit my gang is clamouring to be let outside for a hunting extravaganza. I never connected the dots until my daughter pointed it out to me. Definitely a new take on getting rid of vermin! Note: the pile of defeated rodents is impressive on those days. I always get ‘gifted’ the spoils and they’ll be waiting, all proud of themselves, for their rewards.

Thank you. I'm working on number 150. I currently have a caramel mead going. In secondary at this time. I made my caramel extract with cognac. 1 pound of caramel to 19 ounces of cognac.. shook daily. Og, 1.090.

It’s fun to have one of these again. While I like you venturing out creatively with the mmm traditional tournament and other things, I really love these simple vids because it’s genuine love for a hobby through and through, both mead and KZfaq. I’m wondering if the tartness in the honey was just it’s natural acidity. Cranberries aren’t really too tart until ripe and red, so the nectar likely don’t present that. To get an idea, they sell white cranberry juice. Still need to hit up your mega vid for the compo experts and advice

I always use 2 oz per gallon of hibiscus for my blod meads or wines.

Just curious, I use my own honey which is wildflower. Do you have a cranberry mead recipe without using cranberry blossom honey? Love your videos!

So do you always add wine tannin to your traditional. Also, have you tried adding tea for the same purpose, and if so which gave you better results.

Not always! Only if I'm not wanting to oak it. I've used tea before, but tea can also add flavor. So you have to factor that into your choice!

Hibiscus isnt really that weird the pineapple however is a little offputting.

Hi there, I am noticing that many videos either pitch yeast strait in or they rehydrate, but I am not seeing that process. This makes the entire process much more scary. Can you help with that portion of the process?

You don’t really have to rehydrate. It’s only really necessary with super high gravity brews. It does help the yeast wake up and ferment quicker - but your yeast will still activate without them being rehydrated first

Have you ever tried a cantaloupe mead? I've searched google for recipes but the general consensus seems to be that meads with melon are difficult and not worth the effort. Does anyone know why?

I've done a fruit cocktail mead one time and added some. It was super strong! Watermelon is super hard because it can go sour and mold super quick. I'm not sure about other melons!
