I’ve been FORCING myself to do a neutral grip at most and even tried a strong grip. I found that a weak grip is most consistent with ball striking. End of the video you said, “what works for you is best, but you also don’t recommend a weak grip. I hear you, but it works for me for I am a strong individual that is a handsy player.

I started playing with neutral grip and had an avg club swing speed in 90mph ...slowly developed body swing and now have somewhat more strong grip and club speed. Thats explain it so nicely. Also would request Adam to add a second part in this video to explain the how much power should we apply to hold different club for different kind of shots. Like for chip shot i hold it more hard than a Tee shot.

I am 67 with a host of orthopedic issues and have switched to a very strong grip with great results. As we age we lose more flexibility than strength, in most cases. A strong grip allows me to hit the ball far more consistently and farther without the need to turn as much or follow through as much which really helps my bad back.

Straight as an arrow, more consistency but lost 20-25 yards with the dirver though and 3wood and hybrid also. I guess I still need to loosen up a bit but I'm super happy the results so far. Hi - I love using a strong grip and recently an instructor told me to switch to a more neutral grip. When teaching do you have the mindset of do whatever feels comfortable. The strong grip definitely feels more comfortable to me, but not sure to try the neutral grip to try and make it more comfortable.

I think it depends on whether the grip is causing problems squaring the face through impact, and generally throughout the swing. If there are problems I'd consider making the change. Best, Adam

I use a weak grip. if I go neutral or even slightly strong I'm hooking it. A weak grip took the hook out of the equation. Straight and down the middle 90% of the time. I can now fire my hips and let my body square the face with a lot of confidence.

Should I bow the wrist with a strong grip? Should I bow the wrist with every grip? I’m having trouble determining the wrist placement in the back swing. I’ve tried bowing my wrist more lately. Will also try to start incorporating more of a strong grip but seems like it’s harder to bow the wrist this way. What’s your thoughts?

As the clubs get longer it seems more difficult to square the club face. Would you ever recommend a player have a slightly stronger grip for driver and even 3 wood compared to their grip for the other clubs. After all we weaken our grip for chips shots and putting...so just like a weak grip helps keep the face open on a chip shot maybe a strong grip helps close the face to hit straighter shots with the driver.

Adam I'm a natural Lefty that plays golf Right handed, with a weak left hand grip I've always been able to hit a fade without much trouble of losing it way right. My natural strength in my left fingers, hand, wrist, forearms, shoulder seems to keep the face square to target and with path to the left, the fade just keeps happening. I know some right hand players that have tried my weak left hand grip, and that always turns out a disaster for them. They always go back to a stronger left hand grip, and forget what I do.

Adam - I appreciate your videos very much. Question on the right hand grip - should the club grip be aligned 1) at the point where the two middle fingers meet the hand or 2) closer to the first joint of middle fingers. I have an old book by Joe Norwood called Golf-O-Metrics that went into a lot of detail on grip and setting right wrist down, which seemed to have my right above the club too much. The strong(er) grip is key guys. You will eventually eliminate slice and develop a much more playable draw with the right ball position. What you then need to work on is takeaway. Specifically club face angle as it hits waste high and is ready to go up and hinge. Tendency is to keep it shut down causing problems. My key swing thought is too make sure my club face gets open enough on the way up. It makes a world of difference on the way back through. Your mileage may very but that was the starting point for me of beginning to really hit some great shots.

Strong grip with a draw is the only way to hit it far when you work and can't practice. Open the face slightly of you really need a fade. Mark, For most people (not Woods, Johnny Miller, or Hogan) they lose too much distance doing that. Play around with a grip modification at the range, and see what shows up....but give it some time. Best, Adam

John Daly in his book recommends a strong grip.Jack Nicklaus says in his books,a strong grip is a weak grip.Fred Couples,Paul Azinger ,David Duval, all use strong grips, whereas Ian Poulter,Monty and Greg Norman are neutral.Yet they've all earned huge amounts of money from golf, playing golf as they see fit.Personally I think you should go over your local driving range and hit a bucket of balls and see what works best.I don't think you can go far wrong with a neutral grip where the left thumb is just right of centre.(if you are right handed) Why ? Because it is easier to repeat and keep a check of.

I find a strong grip results in ball going left too far. Most shots a neutral grip is perfect.

Then why golf coaches teach kids, as I was, to have a weak grip? I mean, I've always had a strong grip, since I was 6 years old, and they always tried to take away my natural swing and my strong grip. I could never coordinate twisting my wrists along with the downswing with a weak grip. But know that I have no coach My game has improved so much and so my distance, I used to hit a drive 260 with a weak grip and sliced it a lot, now I hit it 305 yds with a slight fade. Sometimes coaches missread the body motion and basically mess swings up

I’m the opposite. Always had a weak grip and managed to get down to 9hc with it but my drives in particular were erratic to say the least. I’ve recently had my grip severely strengthened and my drives are on another level. Hitting twice as many fairways and instead of my good shot carrying 300y, that’s now my average. I wish I did this 10yrs ago.

You'd then have to work on characteristics that successful players have that use strong grips. I did a video on Each Johnson's swing a while back, you might find that helpful. All the best, Adam

To me, this is malpractice for a teacher to recommend one or the other. It is infinitely more complicated than is described here. A strong grip requires a extremely fast clearing of the hips which some golfers cannot do. Hogan is acknowledged as the best ball striker in history and employed a weak grip as did Moe Norman. The discussion goes on and on. These internet teachers are doing harm to the golfing public. There are dozens and dozens of them. Please ignore them all and go see a teaching professional in person. If I seem upset, I am because I fell victim to the endless theories and techniques spouting from well meaning, but eventually harmful coaches.

It’s just a video, not claiming to be the Gospel. After 35 years of full time teaching I’ve found , very generally, that average players do better with strong than weak grips. Neutral is fine too

He literally showed us an example and said a strong grip required an athletic clearing of the body. And showed us that if you couldn’t do that more release with a weaker grip was effective. He also actually did not recommend ONE grip over the other. Gave us 2 options.

Hogan weakened his grip after his car accident. Yes he hit thousands of balls to perfect it, but weak isn't dead. Hogan won 6 majors with a weak grip.

Shane, That's true. However, it's generally poor thinking for someone of average ability & commitment to copy something that's eccentric in a great player. Better for most people to copy the things that are common to most players. Hope this helps. Best, Adam

How to make an awful golf video? Step 1: Pose an interesting comparison between 2 techniques and suggest that you have an answer. Step 2: Go through a video where you introduce a third option. Step 3: End by saying, just do whatever works.... Scratch this channel off my list

Fair point Dan. To be honest, some of the wording in titles is based on popular search words, and once I get the subject in mind I just kind of go, in this case ignoring the details of the title. All the best, Adam
