Two Lynx in Ontario Have Intense Conversation

Nicole Lewis was driving on May 18 near Avery Lake, which borders Ontario, Canada, and the US state of Michigan, when she came across two lynx having what seemed to be some sort of territorial dispute.
Lynxes are rarely spotted in Michigan but they are very common in the Dinorwic Region of Ontario, close to where Lewis spotted these two.
Although it remains unclear exactly what the two lynxes were doing, as they are normally solitary animals, the interaction most likely had to do with claiming territory.

Deeper sound than I expected. I had a puma scream behind me in dense brush about 30 feet away. They sound like a woman screaming her last breath. Ran into something in the dark once that sounded like a baby chainsaw. Never figured out what it was. I wasn't trying to find out. It was in a little bush by my car and I went full throttle if you got within 10 feet of it. I left it alone. Really draw a blank as to what it even could've been.

I'm glad you posted this. I heard the same screaming from lynxes one time a while ago when I was camping. I knew it involved one lynx because he walked by my campsite a couple of times, but I never knew until now what caused all the screaming. At the time I thought it involved a family of them. I recognized it immediately. I was camping two years ago in the Hocking Hills forest and was the only person in the campground. Heard this blood curdling screaming come from 100 yards away, deep in the forest. About midnight. Scared the bejezus out of me. I suspected it was two bobcats screaming.....don't think Lynx are this far south. Maybe. Ontario is just across the border.

@@_september_4799 Actually, this is very typical for animals that are lethal in all ends. :) It is a lot of hissing and posturing but very little action. Makes sense from an evolutionary angle I guess. If you get into a real fight with that your chances of offspring will go down dramatically.

It said that if you go into the woods in North America and hear the sound of a baby cry, you shouldn't go trying to find it. A lot of people have been killed by cougars or injured by Lynx because of that.
