Two Notes Opus Nifty50 | B Minus Demos
The Nifty50 is Two Notes Peavey/EVH 5150. I tend to approach these the way I would a traditional amp. Because the EVH 5150 comes in both 6L6 and EL34 configurations, that's what I went with here. I love this model. It's some much fun and immediately inspired some NYHC-style riffs.
I'm still shocked I'm not seeing these more often.
I've got more videos like this in the works for the Opus. Let me know if there's anything specific you'd like to see/hear!

For this NYHC style riffing during the intro I'd say you could use more gain :)

I don’t disagree with you. After getting everything done and listening back I was definitely wishing I had pushed that gain up a little more.

@@BMinusDemos I hope you recorded DIs so that you just have to turn the gain amp and not retrack everything :) ALSO : when tweaking tones : loop your riffs (with a looper or by recording a DI in your DAW) and listen in context (and don't forget to listen to your guitar panned to the side lie in the final mix). Tweaking tones while having to play the guitar and listening to the guitar tone by itself in the center is not ideal, and yet most people still do that unfortunately.

Unfortunately I did not. Literally the first time I ever wrote and recorded a song on my own was for my pedalboard rundown back in January. So I’m still figuring out a lot of this recording stuff and making tons of mistakes lol. But that’s kind of my ethos. Just do it, and if I mess up learn from that. And my hope is that being authentic like that helps prompt conversations and build a community. I dig getting to have a back and forth with folks like we’re doing.

@@BMinusDemos Yeah making mistakes is how we learn ;) But also don't forget that you can also learn by other's mistakes, so that you don't have to do them yourself in the first place :)

@djabthrash That’s what makes all of this so cool because even if you’re sitting in your apartment by yourself you don’t really have to do this alone. There’s always something out there that you can draw from and learn from.

"The Nifty50 is Two Notes Peavey/EVH 5150" Not exactly. I had a talk with Guillaume from Two Notes about this, and he said none of the ampsims in the Opus or Genome were an exact copy of a real amp. To me the Nifty50 is more like a low ot medium gain Van Halen 5150 thing, more than an actual 5150 that does metal high gain guitars. If you turn the gain past 75% or try to boost the level in front to get into high gain, it starts to sound very HM2 like, which sucks. Using a OD / clean boost (tube scream, etc) / EQ in front helps, but it still retains that weird quality to it. To do this high gain 5150 tone, on Genome I'd rather use a CODEX profile of an actual 5150, or use another ampsim that works better for high gain (including the Soldano-like one) and tweak it :) Most demos that sound great with the Nifty50 do this Van Halen medium gain type type of riffing, but only a few get a decent metal rhythm tone with it, like Paul Bradshaw : Two Notes GENOME amp plugin - can it do metal ? kzfaq.info/get/bejne/qpN8odSWzN_Gk6c.html NB : you can still hear that weird HM2 like quality even in his best Nifty50 metalcore tone NB2 : with that being said, the tweaking you did of that Nifty50 tone was great !

So I haven’t had the time to dive into Genome yet but I’m hoping to get to maybe this weekend. And you’re right about it not really being a 5150 clone. My first thought on my very first play through of the Nifty50 was definitely more of the modded Marshall/brown sound kind of thing. None of these are exact models of any specific amp, but you can kind of glean what they were going for from the naming structure. So I tried to see if I could push this into actual 5150 territory without anything external. I always go SD1 over any kind of screamer, but regardless of what you throw in front of it, it does make a pretty noticeable difference. I definitely appreciate the feedback. It’s easy for me to sit in the room with it and think about it in a certain way and kind of lose objectivity. That’s super helpful for me being relatively new to this.

I'm glad I saw this comment because I thought it was just me experiencing that hm 2 quality to the 5050 module because I bought the opus and I'm really bummed and hope they fix it. I like the flatback(Mesa) and el Doraldo(Soldano) they added in the update but I'm a 5150 guy and was disappointed using that preamp because I don't like the hm2 like quality it gives to the distortion and haven't heard anybody else mention this. It seems to add the most grind to the lowest note and makes palm mutes sound weird. I thought I was going crazy very odd choice to release it like that hope they patch it out. I haven't tried the genome was wondering if the preamps tones are the exact same. The flatback in the opus is cool because you can get it to sound close to a mark 5 or a rectifier but I noticed the genome has the flatback and the flatback 5 while the opus just has the flatback but I feel it can do both sounds in the opus.

@kendallh5037 For higher gain I definitely think the Flatback and El Dorado are where it’s at.

@@BMinusDemos you should try taking some of the stock factory presets that use the 5150 preamp and switching them to the Flatback or the El Doraldo because it made some of them really good. The master of puppets preset sounds great if you switch the preamp to a flatback. I also use a physical boost pedal when using the unit which tightens up the tone alot.

@kendallh5037 I typically run and SD1 in front of mine and I have plans to compare how it sounds with and without An external boost. But for this is was trying to just use the built in sounds.
