A tale of two Polk Audio I-Sonic ES2 radios. I originally set out to attempt to repair the display on my original 15-year-old radio. It lacks contrast and is barely readable, which seems to be a common issue with these units. There is not much information about these units on the web or KZfaq, so hopefully this video will be useful for others attempting to diagnose or repair theirs.
The first part of this video documents the disassembly and diagnosis of the display issue. Sadly, it seems that the problem is the display module itself. Replacing those display modules would cost more than these radios are now worth. The displays on eBay currently seem to fetch ~$150 while you can buy a working i-Sonic ES2 for under $100. Of course, if anyone viewing this video has any ideas on how to possibly repair this display, please let me know.
The second part of this video describes replacing a couple of the amplifier capacitors in a second i-Sonic ES2 that I purchased on eBay for $70. It was sold for "parts only" without a power supply. Fortunately, its display works, at least sort of. But I discovered a couple of leaking capacitors and replaced those.
If anyone is interested in my now "parts only" unit with the weak display, just let me know. I'll probably be listing on eBay at some point.

Same thing. Very feint display. This is my second one. Forgot how the first one went bad but I didn’t save it and should have.

Seems to be a common issue with that LCD display module. I wish that the replacement was cheaper.

Have one of these to. It also takes it a couple of minutes for the display to fully come alive. Like the stereo though. Thanks for the video.

Glad to hear I'm not alone. Just wish that the replacement display modules weren't so expensive.

Mine worked great for nearly 15 years before the display became barely readable. It's not too hard to open up and work on, but the display is clearly a weak point. Many of the listings on eBay note that the display is defective.
