BTS DID do a song with Juice World... that's literally what the video said; It's called "All Night" and is on the BTS World Soundtrack. SUGA also is on a track with Juice on his posthumous album; the track is "Girl of my Dreams".

I used to never enjoy Rap\Hip-hop as I didn’t appreciate the subject matter. BTS changed that for me. RM, Suga and J-Hope all have different rap styles which I love. It makes a difference when you have artists that love and respect you as a fan and want to only bring good feelings and ideas to your mind. They also want to help by talking about mental health and social issues. This is why we love them. They are sincerely relatable.

BTS is at a disadvantage as being bigger than Taylor Swift because most of their songs are not in English. Around the world, English is often the language that is used to commmunicate and it’s the chosen language most common learned to communicate outside their own native language. Unfortunately, western countries like the USA have a lot of individuals who don’t listen to non English songs no matter how good it is simply because it’s not in the English language. Though BTS is very popular, there are many in USA that don’t know BTS like Taylor Swift because she sings 100% in English. It’s remarkable just thinking how a Korean boyband from a small country that is singing mostly in Korean can achieve the level of success they’ve reached worldwide. Whether they are bigger than Taylor Swift or not, the success of BTS they’ve achieved so far around the world is already mind boggling.

Agree. It is incredible for 2 years in a row 2020 & 2021 BTS came in at #1 as the Winners of the IFPI Global Recording Artist of the Year (being the only artist to achieve this 2 years in a row). In 2022 Taylor Swift came in at #1 (being the only artist to have won the title 3 times but not 3 consecutive years in a row). BTS came in at #2 for the Global Recording Artist in 2022. For those unfamiliar with IFPI, it is the organization that represents the recorded music industry worldwide. The Global Recording Artist Award is accurately calculated/measured based on the artist's OVERALL worldwide performance across ALL formats for the year: digital, vinyl, physical, and covers their entire body of work. BTS being a foreign band having only 3 English songs released up to date as a group (Dynamite, Butter, PTD), it is nothing short of legendary that they rank themselves high up there on the best selling artist competing with some of the biggest Western Artists.

@@heyjimmyimjimin ... Yes, that's one detail that is being overlooked, in that Swift has been around nearly twice as long as BTS, thus her popularity & numbers (metrics) might be higher overall than BTS', but it is possible that BTS has the advantage of their numbers having gotten accelerated to match her numbers in half the time of Swift's tenure, thus far. The future of both of their careers are uncertain, however BTS does seem to have the anticipation, hype, restlessness & testing patience of ARMY when BTS returns after service duties & that could also blow up their numbers more due to their impending comeback, which is still about a couple years away, mid 2025 more or less. But Hybe has been keeping us fans busy & occupied with all these solo releases over the span of the hiatus, so that we aren't totally in a drought.

I do not get how the rap can make you aggressive in real life. Um? It is a talent. RM, Suga, and J-Hope are rappers and that would never change. Their rapping has always been with BTS till this day. Like the latest AGUST D trilogy from Suga. It is not "leaving rap" lol, it is about being versatile and able to evolve throughout the course of time just like how the mainstream artists manage their careers in the ever-changing industry. That would not make sense if the rap line would suddenly become singers just because they want to be "relatable". The hip-hop concepts still pop out from time to time when they release a new song like "MIC Drop" (2018) and "Run BTS" (2022) and rap-heavy. I am pretty sure rap is a large reason why BTS is so popular.

This. The fact that the video's forefront perspective of BTS's intentions with Dynamite *directly contradicts* what BTS has _repeatedly_ said abt it has always bothered me. This (and a lot of other, tho smaller, inaccuracies in the video) is why I don't really recommend it to new listeners. And also encourage new listeners to check out multiple other introduction videos if they do watch it.

It's pretty common in Korea that they cast people on streets especially for the entertainment industry even more so if you are good looking. But of course it doesn't guarantee that u will stay, you still have to do audition and work hard to prove yourself during the training. And I think people always overlook that they also have more trainees. It's not like only seven of them from the start. They have to compete with other trainees too.

It wasn't a switch to main stream pop at all, the pop music came later. But bare in mind that the group has 7 members and they all have different music tastes so throughout the years they experimented with different sounds and each member got to participate more. The true hiphop heads were Suga and RM. Their rap music was still relatable for the target demographic, they sang about what the youth in Korea were going through at that time that is why they had fans. But the fans grew steadily that is why eventually they started to rise, they gained new fans with every comeback. And if you listen to their very first album not all the songs were aggressive hip hop. I don't like some of the narration on this video but it's good overall.

One thing I feel like it’s important to say when analyzing the shifts in sound and image that BTS has gone through throughout the years is that, yes, they’ve always wanted to keep up with the trends and to be more well accepted, but that desire has never overcome their authenticity, they have the freedom to express in whatever way they want in their music and that is something that sets them apart from most of K-pop. They will write and sing abt whatever they want, and as a testament to their identity as true musicians, true artists, they never stay stagnant. They’re always looking to grow and learn from other music genres, from Latin pop, to hiphop, to EDM, to rock, to bubble gum pop, to folk, to country…they’re not afraid to explore and try new things, in fact, I’d say that’s one of the reasons why they’re so big, they don’t attract fans of just one genre, they attract fans of many different genres, bc they are just that good that they are able to explore completely new territory and sound and make it sound good enough to compete with major artists within those genres. Loved this, I think a good boracity video to start understanding how groundbreaking the things they’ve accomplished within the American music industry is, is a video called “why the music industry is terrified of BTS”. And a cool one that I think you guys will enjoy is “bts are rockstars” Edit: ignore that last one, I’m an idiot, I know you’ve watched that last one already lmao

BTS always strives to give the society new music everytime and whenever they release an album, it is always a new concept with meaningful lyrics depictng the prejudice, thoughts roaming around them and the solution to facing its challanges. And that why people respect their music and try to understand them. Also i think, as they grew old together, their thinking style and their perspective on life changed and that is why their music changes their style and concept every time and every album they release. Their CEO is also one of their most trusted person in terms of music as he always feels that their delivery in every music should be ethical and practical and also suggests them that if they want to be respected and adored by fans, they need to experience everything and write their music honestly based on such experience and this advice really helped them to be this big personality around the world and many fans love their music irrespective of their genre. Also Burn the Stage is a documentary where behind the stages of BTS concerts are shown.

Bang PD realized that if they wanted to compete with the current groups, he would have to have an idol group instead a full rap group. This decision was made while they were still trainees. The rappers were not happy about it but stuck it out and now enjoy and are proud of what they do. Koreans have never called it kpop....kpop is a western term that ended up representing the whole music industry in Korea to the rest of the world. However, it Korea, it is called idol music and they have all the other genres like we do here in the US plus their Korea only genres. There are 2 Juice World collabs. The first you saw was for the mobile game and the song is called All Night it has RM, Suga & Juice World. The second song is called Girl Of My Dreams and is on Juice World's posthumous album and feat Suga.

Every their poppy song has deep meaning. The became more mature, their discography reflects their lives. It's not because they wanted become mainstream, they just bring life and true feelings llto their art. If you closely look to each bts album, you'll find how complicated and meaningfull they are. And their rap never go away. Every member hold his position, at the beginning they also didn't all rap.

9:39 ill probably edit this to add stuff but i wanted to pause and say, casting agents for those companies go everywhere looking for talent. Schools, talent shows, etc, but yes, also one the street. These companies sign people on for more than just to become idols. The companies also sign on songwriters, producers, and actors, both for mvs, and movies and dramas. And because they have intense training that can last months, up to years (bang chan from stray kids was a teainee for like, 9 years or something before he debuted, not sure of the exact time but it was longer than most), it often happens that theyll scout someone for their looks, or people who have even the smallest bit of singing / rapping / dancing etc, knowing they can be trained. Im not sure if other companies are like this too, but i know big hit, bang si hyuk, cared about "potential" during an interview once, jin explained "i was getting off the bus in college, and a lady came up and grabbed my face and said 'ive never seen such a handsome face before! Please join our agency!'" It seems odd to us westerners, but its pretty common over there to scout everywhere, for anything. Jins amazing because he was scouted for looks, had no real experience in singing or dancing, and now look at him. Widely recognized as a silver voice and a great dancer. So their training system def works 💜 13:20 his "friend" went online after jimmy fallon asked Tae about his audition. Fallon asked what happened to his friend and tae said "he failed". Not in a nasty or braggadocious way, just factual, and the friend tried to talk some shit anout Tae. Everyone saw it for what it was though, jealousy, so his trash talk didnt do him any good or hurt Tae's rep in anyway. 18:15 big hit did change it from a hip hop group to an idol group. The members, especially the rappers, were stressed over it. But the project had changed before they debuted. Thats why they all had to learn to dance. It was originally going to be just a hip hop group. But the other rappers eventually either left or were cut. Namjoon almost quit the team due to dance, and j hope tried to leave because he wasnt sure how he fit, being a dancer but not a rapper. As for their musical change, the music changed as they grew, mostly. And they still have had full hip hop songs throughout their career. "Run bts" is insane and that was released last year. Although this documentary has some good info, im not rly a fan of how they present the info. They way they explain some things are incomplete and/or misleading, like the comments on releasing dynamite to appeal to western charts. Not why they did it. The 3 English songs were merely released to cheer up as many people as possible and give hope during the pandemic. So take this documentary with a grain if salt 😊 Also the 7 of them all have thier own styles of music they like. While they all love hip hop, you can tell by their solo projects that they have a variety of tastes, just look at Tae's new singles, rainy days and love me again. He puts r & b and jazz into his stuff.

TAYLOR SWIFT & BTS Taylor recently broke bts touring records in the US. She toured more than bts. She has more sales & streams at the moment. She also has an edge for being more mainstream. She's a great performer as well. For groups, bts holds most of the records. And as a group, they can compete with solo acts. It's kmown fact that solo acts are bigger than the group acts. But with bts achievements & records they are definitely up there. They are also the most awarded group in history & of all time, around 1,050 awards. 4th overall, only bested by 1) MJ, 2) Adele & 3) Taylor. The victory is sweeter bec they gradually made it on top. It's pure hardwork & they were not a one time thing nor an instant 'it' group. They already cemented their name on the industry that even on hiatus, they are still the most streamed group on spotify & most viewed artist on youtube. All the best! Thanks for ur reaction 💜💜💜🥳

im confused when they mentioned boy in luv and just one day you said "do you think the label forced them to change from hip hop to mainstream pop" neither of those songs are mainstream pop. boy in luv is pop punk/pop rock and just one day is r&b. mainstream pop would be dynamite or dna or boy with luv. and even so bts have always been the ones in charge of the music, what genres they did what the songs were about etc the label could suggest but if the members dont agree its not happening. they decided to ADD more genres to their catalog not replace rap or hip hop as they still to this day do hip hop a lot. i think its difficult for you to understand due to pop music now having rappers on the songs in mainstream however theres a huge difference between for example katy perry and juicy j dark horse which is a pop song with a rap verse being released vs bts songs like just one day which is majority r&b and hip hop not pop. just cause the song has singing on it doesnt make it a pop song. also the authenticity factor also plays a role. you can feel the emotions of bts songs no matter the genre where as many mainstream pop songs you cant feel the song it was just released to be released. hopefully you get what i mean. but yeah it was strange you mentioned it there of all places because neither of those songs are pop and even if they were bts never stopped being a hip hop group they still are to this day and they still have at least 1 hip hop song on every album usually more than 1. i know this is pre recorded and you probably have more information now but still wanted to explain that clearly. also keep in mind all the hardships were happening while all this seemingly good stuff ws happening.

As funny as your version of Suga (Yoongi) being signed is: it's not true. It was planed that he would not need to dance. Rice Squad mentioned the other artists signed under Big Hit. What he neglects is that those artists (both?) were also signed under different labels meaning BH only did part of the job for them/earned not that much. In fact when the time came for renewal only one decided to renew his contract with BH: Lee Hyun from 8eight (I think) now redubted as MIDNATT. At the end of 2010 or likelier at the beginning of 2011 a look at their finances told them that debuting a Hiphop group would not help. So they suspended all non-essential activities and gave everyone homework: what actually will make money/get them out of debt? The answer? an Idol group. Which was when the concept for Bangtan Sonyeondan changed. I think they had to talk Yoongi into staying into the group itself instead of just becoming a producer - but that is speculation. What is true is that Yoongi at the monthly evulation placed last - and was still not cut (neither were RM/Namjoon or Supreme Boi - who decided to be only a producer). In 2012 - I believe - Yoongi got into a car-accident - like shown in Amygdala - at his part-time job and injured his shoulder permanently - and was therefor in constant pain till fall of 2020. Yoongi tried to hide it but it was impossible - afraid to be cut. When they brought im to hospital defeated he offered to leave - they told him to stay and that they would wait for his recovery. And yes, Jin was signed for his looks. Looks are one of the first attraction points for a new boy(or girl-)group. In fact Jin's look were a major reason of how they found a promoter for Japan. Casting Idols is not that rarely sketchy. I mean one of the people trying to sign 13 year old Jungkook tried to get him to come to his hotel room. (Someone once said that some of the first Idol managers were actual pimps before they found more money in becoming Idol managers...) Lack of money (Ithink the label was in debt till 2017 or something) was a big reason for quiet a few fanservice/Idol practices they also did - necessary for their survival. But it wasn't a break from their dreams - it was an "and" thing - lots and lots of genres. The members had all different music interests: some of the vocalline were also into artists like Coldplay, Justin Bieber, Girls Generation etc. At the beginning the rapline was more insecure about doing none-Hiphop stuff but they grew as people and are now very proud to be called Idols and Pop artists. They outgrew their own prejudice. You can see that in the TROB, too. Mind you they were very aware that some of those more poppy songs were necessary to survive. The members were mature enough to know that they didn't have much of a choice if they wanted to stay existing as a group and do also their music with their messages - chances were they would not get that at any other label/this could have been their ONLY chance. American Hustle Life can still be watched. The begining is cringe as they really thought themselves kidnaped. The members also gave back in that extra poor/homeless street LA is known for. Nevermind that some of the members had at least lived rougher that the average middleclass child/came from poorer families - but as far as I can tell without the violance. Personally I believe WOH got hate because BTS became more famous and where beginning to challenge the top dogs and that is a complete no-no in such a class-based society. Over the years the hate became more and more organized. For example Taemin said in an interview (as a teen) far worse stuff - but somehow his quotes were later attributed falsely to BTS. Nevermind that they all grew better. WOH is actually a very good tongue-in-cheek description of a male discovering their hormones/getting attracted to girls: way over the top - "popping pimples" stood right next to lines about how physical attractive the girls were - ultimately harmless. Also fun fact: feminist is translated to mean "men-hating" in SK. Female athlets/entertainers have to go in front of the press to tell them that they are not feminist (which could cost those women their career). The new ministry for women was put into the family ministry by the new government in SK recently... I think most people don't actually understand what RAP is. Some use it as a acronym for "Rythm and Poetry". I didn't understand it till I heard the rapline and was more annoyed with my own prejudice. I learned quiet a bit since than. "Spring Day" is currently 67 on Melon - still charting since spring of 2017. Try *bby* *gang* *mag* with his video essay "BTS vs. K-pop" - it has a section that explains what K-pop actually is. It's complicated. BTS discovered Juice Wrld before he was famous. There is the mentioned song and on a post-mortem album Suga is on his song "Girl of my Dreams". Juice Wrld did drugs very young, before he became famous and didn't stop. i read his wikipedia article and from my understanding he was doing drug on his private plane but someone (the pilot?) reported it (and guns). Juice Wrld paniced and allegedly swallowed multiple Percocet pills which led to his collaps. They admistered stuff against a drug overdose but in hospital they could only register his death. The Dynamite narrative is fun but not true. The song was for fans - as a secondary language pretty much the whole world speaks it. (lingua franca) I think the Scooter Braun story is taken way out of context. When she left her old label they kept her mastertapes and she tried to get them. Maybe they asked for too much money IDK but TS didn't get them. Scooter Braun bought her old label and now owned the mastertapes. She threw a very public tantrum, claiming he had insulted her etc. to everyone who would hear. I can't actually find what he supposedly said. She got social coin and fame from it. He expected that she would give in and buy them not believing that she would rerecord her music. But if you know how the industry works... it was very very clever what she did - I admire her for that. The industry is so corrupt - boracity magazine has a few video essays. But rerecorded albums mean she got double (more) the money for the same songs (steroids if you will), easy number 1s and more fame/interest from a global audience that cared more about the unfairness of him owning her mastertapes (and her fighting the corruption) than actually buying music. It was a brilliant chess move from my point of view. She used him hard. Everyone else would have been damned - a foreigner crucfied - for that. BTS got BS for having remixes of their songs - when Western artists have pages and pages of them. Bang Si Hyuk is not stupid. The man went to Scooter Braun when the rumors came up he planed to sell his label/holding and talked to him for months about music before deciding to buy - they went fishing together and felt each other out over talking music/industry etc. The sale happened and Scooter became part of the board of directors and one of the two heads of the US branch that merged his old Holding with HYBE's US subsidary. Now Scooter Braun is the only man in charge there - as planed - and training new artists for them and doing promotions like for Jungkooks "Seven". Thank you for your reaction! 💜

But the thing is that they are saying that the agency formed the members one by one knowing from the very beginning what things they were looking for, when actually they were part of a lot of trainees. They call for auditions of talented people and have a lot of young guys coming in and out of the house trying to be part of the final group. It wouldn't be fair to compare bts & taylor in terms of numbers as she is a white artist who actually have advantage of streams/sales (lot of payola/playlisting) who sings in english. industry is taylor swift friendly whereas bts (poc) gets sabotaged left and right but they do compete good w big western solo artists including taylor despite having all the push backs from industry & western media. also bts didn't tour since 2019.

Something to clarify is that although the bts company now called HYBE joined the scooter company, Bang PD the CEO of BTS was very smart since he not only gave shares to the company's boys, but protected them by taking them under which it was a BIG HIT MUSIC sub-company and when the time came for the union, he separated them by making that company where they were completely independent from HYBE, that was the way to protect their artistic freedom, being they the only owners of their art.

To answer your question about "did they ever think where does it end? Bc they keep growing ste by step" The answer is, they did think about it. Even from earlier on, before they even won any music show awards,, evidenced by the song "Young Forever", released 2016. In the song, they touched about how they feels after a concert/show ie how they feel when the curtains close, and yet they wanna stay young forever bc they love performing their music. Back then, they used to say, if one day they could perform in front of 15 000, they'd be content (as at the time the were performing st clubs and arenas, not believing they could sell even 3000 seats, which they did) and now they're stable stadium artists 😁

"Boy In Luv" does not sound like mainstream song, it is hardcore and rock and "Just One Day" is R&B lol. Those are in the album Skool Luv Affair (2014). They experimented with different genres. Try to react to those MV's, they are still pretty rap heavy. The poppier sound occurred after that album, the Most Beautiful Moment In Life series in 2015 but at the same time the BTS Universe and their concepts also turn more emotionaland mature and touches on the reality of life compared to aggressive and cool BTS before.

Yeah, that’s the one thing I don’t like about this documentary, it can give the impression that BTS left hip hop instead of simply expanding to other genres. Bts’ first album wasn’t all hardcore hip hop and every album including their last full album (BE) has hip hop on it. Even their anthology where they only had space for 3 new complete songs (not talking about demos on disc 3), they made sure one of the three was hip hop and the title track had hip hop elements and references. BTS just experiments with lots of genres but their main through line is authenticity and I think that comes from their roots in hip hop- The focus on writing your own story. I just feel this documentary doesn’t put their musical expansions into proper context especially since they don’t get deep into their discography. Maybe it would be good for D&J to react to Boracity explanation of bts discography or Mera’s The Lyricism of BTS (kzfaq.info/get/bejne/fbSBorR8rbWYpok.html).

Cuz they cant pay the bills, but they insisted on staying, and eventually somehow they get the investment, and they debuting. So i guess, at first rm suga and jhope wants to debut as a rapper, but the situation at the time, the korea market, is not suitable for debuing a rap group, so then they change the project to become idol group instead, cuz at that time idol industry is triving. Rap is not just about gangs or drugs, for example, BTS' idols like J Cole, Nas, Tupac, etc. are rappers who have incredible flows and talk about many issues in the world. When bts were doing “aggressive hiphop” they were still giving the same messages and stories they do now. And they still do hiphop now in their bts albums and especially in their solo works. They’re versatile which I think is important as an artist. And dynamite wasn’t for them to tackle the western market. He can’t really be faulted for that though bc we didn’t know yet but in their 2022 anniversary dinner bts talked about how they were basically burnt out. It felt like they were outta things to write about. They were burnt out and stressed, all their plans were ruined(they were supposed to go on tour then the military), and there was a pandemic going on. Dynamite was given to them. It was a song that was easy and they didn’t have to put too much thought into it and it also helped cheer fans up. They didn’t expect it to blow up the way it did(no pun intended lol)

Some fans may not know when Bighit transitioned and became HYBE, Bts members also became shareholders. Also, as for the SK government, just recently the World Scout Jamboree that was held in Korea was a mess, extremely hot, unorganized, natural disaster warning, some even said there was no food available at the camp site, a politican brought up letting Bts perform and taking Jin and Jhope from their service just to perform and try to save the mess created, Army was not happy and made it clear that they should leave Bts out of this as they are preparing for their solos and enlistment and Jin and Jhope is already doing their services. When the city of Busan announced Bts free concert as representatives for the World Expo, the city was so unorganized, they didnt even pay for anything, it was HYBE/Bighit that paid so that the concert would still happen.

Interesting is that after Buter domination on Billboard charts for 10 weeks .... BB changed the chart rulers, numerus of times, to prevent BTS and BTS members chart again.... Now HOT100 is considered local radio chart.... To fulfill the needs to push own paid artist to chart high ... Kpop industry hates bmBTS for the obvious reasons and Western Music Industry hates BTS.... Grammays disrespect them so much, they put comercial mv to the presentation instread of nominated "Yet to Come" official mv masterpiece... Well BTS Army is laughing as they know BTS Karma will do the thing....

The relationship between BTS and Big Hit is... unique. Genuinely. I find is fascinating so this will probably be a long comment 😂 They always did a variety of styles and genres, from the very beginning, and their sound evolved because they wanted it to. Suga and RM are both good at writing to the strengths of their members, and coming from rap doesn't mean they disliked other music. Quite the opposite - their solo work is good evidence of that, even early on. I also wouldn't call the bulk of their discography "pop." Some of it is, but you'll find lots of stuff with interesting structures and chord progressions that aren't common in pop, and lots of other genre influences as well. A lot of it isn't really easily categorizable. What genre is Black Swan? 😅 I'm not saying the label never leaned on them, but they've talked about their song creation process - which is extremely collaborative, Suga calls it "song camp" - and they wanted to succeed as much as the label did. They wanted to make music that was authentic in a way people could connect to, and they weren't wedded to a genre. They'd try anything. Which is pretty damn hip-hop, even when the sound isn't 😁 Plus it would practically be criminal to have those four vocalists and not give them chances to show off. Just in general, it's best to set aside your preconceptions with this specific artist / label relationship. They grew together, and they're still working with some of the same in-house production and performance staff that started with them ten years ago. If you dig into BigHit (and later, to some extent, HYBE) you find a company with an uncanny ability to spot young, new artists with a ton of potential and give them a combination of pressure and opportunity to develop that potential. I don't just mean their performers - look at how they work with choreographers. They look for people who are young, hungry, and have new ideas and then give them high expectations, access to a supportive team, and a lot of creative control. I think it's a brilliant formula but it sure does require you to trust your artists 😂

I have a love-hate relationship with this video because it does do a good job at summarizing a career spanning 10+ years...but the language at places is misleading. For one, I'm not exactly sure 1TYM played as much of a role as Rice Squad makes it seem because they were only mentioned once during a fun group exercise when Suga mentioned Bang telling him the project BTS will be like 1TYM, meaning a hip hop group. The other thing that bothers me is how he makes it seem like everything was calculated in a typical "K-pop fashion" to gain popularity...Concepts throughout the year changed because the guys grew up. As teens and early tweens, they were angry about school and love. Then each member stepped into their twenties and the group started writing about wandering, trying to figure sh*t out in a confusing, adult world. Their WINGS album dealt with temptation, guilt, obsession and sensuality - things people often experience in their early to mid-twenties because they lack life experience and are just gaining it. The subsequent albums dealt with encountering one's first actual relationship which is still heavily insecure and toxic because that's life during your twenties - you're still confused about yourself and now here's this person you want to impress. This album trilogy concludes in the answer that love starts with loving yourself and speaking yourself which then can lead you into real adulthood and better relationships. These are what the BTS members went through growing up so obviously they would become concepts they explored in their art. They don't share most of their private life (rightfully so, it's nobody's business) but they always share bits and tidbits in retrospect about friendships and similar relations - some of them struggled a lot from losing friends to drugs to friends turning toxic or exploitative toward them, etc. Not to mention some turbulent years when the group was seriously pondering disbandment due to how difficult their career has become; it's not just the hectic schedules but also the industry push back, negative press, racism and so on. It took a toll. If you get to listen to OUTRO: TEAR, yeah, that song isn't a breakup song, it's a disbandment song that put it into words how they felt at the time. Sorry for the long comment but I prefer to give proper information that puts things into the right context. That's basically the problem I have with this particular video, it goes through everything fairly well, but it could been better worded at places. I think Rice Squad assumed this "they got to work" and "make an even better selling album" will impress folks but it just comes off as calculating, sterile and sales-obsessed.

BTS always had a choice in what music they did and their style too. They do have a say in what they wear too. Yes they changed direction because it does make sense. If something isn’t working you improve it. Because in every BTS album their are solo songs from each member. So the rappers still had rap songs in their albums and their mix tapes.

It was more R&B, aside from hip-hop-their genre when they were younger. They were more influenced by a lot of things back then, as in it was encouraged that they listen to a ton of other artists and share it with each other. Even Bang Si-hyuk would share music on Twitter that RM or any of the boys would share with him. They were really big then and are still big on sharing the artists they listen to to their audience. So, we have playlists for BTS and have playlists for the music they've recommended to try who they're getting inspiration from recently. ARMY would also share music with them. Overall, it has been a very creative environment they've been raised in, and they've built with ARMY too. They've really encouraged the "Don't knock it til you try it" mentality in their community. What mattered the most was that they were sincere and effective in communicating the message they wanted to put out. You can also see the pride they have for all the 300+ songs they have when they perform them, even if they didn't set out with that genre-and their audience genuinely resonate with the music and the process of making music. Edit: "All Night" and "Girl of My Dreams" by Juice WRLD, Suga, BTS

Nowadays, is more "easier" for kpop group to get a millions album seller. They just make so many album version everytime they launched new album. There is some kpop group even have 11-21 album versions so it can increase the sales so they can get a millions seller. Compared with BTS, only have 2-4 album versions. But, even some groups sell a millions album with so many versions, they always have low streaming number (digital), coz albums sales can bulkbuy by fans, but not with streaming. That why, lot of group that have million sales but they get low streaming. Is rare to have a group that have million album sales but also have higher streaming number like BTS. They are not just a power house for physical sales, but also digital (despite of spotify n youtube often try to sabotage BTS)

The group was meant to be a hip hop group but transitioned to an idol group before debut, so it was already a hip hop and vocal blend. I don't think there was a conscious decision to go more mainstream as they went along, I think the main writers in the group just matured in their songwriting. The strong hip hop/ straight rap never really went away and has still been present on every album since.
