FYI, "auntie/aunt" is also an umbrella term that can reference any middle aged woman. So here, the restaurant owner is not their blood related aunt, but a middle aged woman who provides their meals. You will also see that after a certain age, you will respectfully be called grandma.

Used to be the same here in the UK. eg children called their neighbour's and their parents friends Auntie/uncle with their name eg Auntie Mary or Grandma Emma or Uncle Bob or Grandad Henry, but brother and sister terms were never used in the UK. It's not used any more though it's just the first name.

This chapter highlights how BTS and their company is kind of different from other Kpop groups and their company. Many fail to understand this point. BTS trained,did diet and had lessons just like every other kpop group but they had creative freedom. That's what separate them from others. Also their company paid Suga's college fee so that he can focus on music. This was the time he concealed the fact that he hurt his shoulder in an accident while doing part time job. He was afraid they'll cut him from the team. But their company supported him even after they come to know about his injury. Bang PD is such a great man. He believed in BTS members and was their biggest supporter when people said BTS can't make it. This Rise of Bangtan series don't cover the sabotage done to BTS by other kpop companies. Even the creator of this series said this and I don't remember the reason they said for leaving out those things. But still this series is good for understanding BTS and their journey. I am glad you guys are patient and respectful. You guys are asking questions when you don't know things instead of assuming.I really like that. Keep going.💜

Thank you for saying this! I just discovered this channel today, and watching it, I want to jump back and say, "But wait! BTS is different! Bang PD treated the boys different than other idol companies." Thank goodness, too! All the struggles they went through, and to possibly be told you need plastic surgery to play the idol part (like the other companies did). I would hate that for them.

BTS stressed healthy diets, not junk. They put themselves on diets due to hate comments. Jimin esp was affected by the hate in this area. He was barley 16 yrs old. He was still baby fat face ( adorable), even through he was BUILT from all the exercise and dance. He and Jin both starved themselves to the point of getting sick. Jin did it first, then helped Jimin to stop.

Since BTS were not invited to guest on variety shows and talk shows, Big Hit and BTS resorted to other platforms like KZfaq which turned out to be the best marketing strategy to gain popularity and get millions of fans around the world.

I remember reading that one of the things that made BTS a bit different - in addition to Bang PD-nim not having quite the same draconian rules as everyone else, and expecting RESULTS rather than a specific amount of work - was RM's influence and leadership right from the start. He was the first or one of the first trainees signed for BTS, and when the rest of the rap trainees started to drift away over time or left when it became clear it would be an idol group, rather than a pure rap group, he stayed. And where most studio trainees tend to develop a fairly cutthroat/toxic culture of competitiveness, he would apparently remind his fellow trainees that "One day, you may end up in a group with these people, and have to work together for a very long time. Would you rather be stuck with someone carrying a grudge towards you, or would you rather be able to trust each other and cooperate?". Which kind of set the mood for the trainees and the future bandmembers, and is probably the reason the last trainees who got cut still speak warmly of the boys and admit that they miss being part of that brotherhood more than they are jealous of their success.

@@HadassaMoon144only Supreme Boi stayed on to become an in-house producer for BH. Other trainees paved their own paths in other or similar fields.. i saw this one interview where these former trainees still speak warmly of the members and hoped they could have a reunion with the other former trainees as well..

They record vlogs because that is their only way to connect with fans. They were seldom invited in local tv shows, which is usually a way in SK to meet their fans. They do not have proper connections in media during those times.

What happened to Jin's family, well none of them are from Seoul, South Korea so they all had to move away from their hometowns and families to live in Seoul. Can you imagine Jungkook who was only 13 at the time had to move away from his family, but the older members took really good care of him. And because of how busy they were they didn't see their families in person for a long time. You will see a touching moment with J-Hope involving his parents and older sister in a later video. I don't think Bighit put them all in the same bedroom for them to bond. Bighit didn't have a lot of money so there was literally no room for them to have separate bedrooms.

Big Hit actually tried to debut a girl group right before which totally flopped and made the company come close to bankruptcy... they eventually managed to get a final investment to make BTS debut but they had no power over broadcasting channels and no resource of promotion as they were a small indie label.. there were less than 30 people in the company including BTS they just did whatever they could to put their names out there and that's how they came up with releasing vlogs on KZfaq, and free songs on SoundCloud before (and after) debut!

@@DANDJREACT they had only 3 artists in their portfolio and they invested a lot to debut that group... and then there was no return on investment so yes...huge losses.. they even told BTS to go home because they couldn't even pay rent for the crappy small infested dorm they were in to train them... I think that's when Suga started working part-time and eventually had his shoulder injury (sorry I can't remember if you deleved in yet into Suga's solo work and know this story)

This is a great series! Aneesa (the creator of The Rise of Bangtan) shared that she has been working on this series (her labor of love) for over 3 years! She is taking viewer on a journey step-by-step from BTS' perspective not looking back on their days but living through them (with them). She edits their content to allow BTS to speak their thoughts, through their experiences at the time because BTS has been documenting themselves since BEFORE their debut, so there is A LOT of material to edit down to tell their story! She also gives an overview of the KPop history for those who are not familiar with the industry. She uses clips from different video clips of other idols/ journalists interviews to try to give a broader perspective of the industry. Her skill as a professional video editor really shines through. Amazing work! I think many ARMY really like this series (besides it being extremely well made), she doesn't try to interpret what "she thinks" BTS is trying to say, she just shows the viewers exactly what they said and shared about what their thoughts were at the time. She is an "OG" KPop fan and BTS fan since pre-debut! She also shared that BTS has been the light in her darkness for many years now. *(Cr: "FY" on yt)* I think it's important to notice the differences between BTS' worries and the other trainees worries. BTS' were worried about their own personal skills (not dancing well enough, song worries, etc), about not getting attention when they debut due to their small company, not having money, etc. While the other trainees seem to be living in fear of being cut from the company at any moment if they make one mistake, worrying about weight quotas, etc. BTS stayed until late hours because they WANTED to, while the other trainees HAD to. Obviously BTS had things they had to do too, they could've not made it to debut as Jimin almost did due to short training, but instead of using that as a fear to hold over them Bighit seemed to use it to encourage them to work harder and improve themselves. BTS were allowed to make mistakes without worrying they'd be thrown out of the company. I'm very glad that they all signed with Bighit, and that Bighit has caused a shift in the Kpop industry, lots of newer companies are giving their groups more freedom and treating them better due to BTS' success. These companies see that idols don't need to be punished and forced to do things in order to succeed, BTS are proof that freedom and happiness should be the most important thing. *(Cr: "Shannon" on yt)* Now plz understand this 1st & 2nd episode shows two sides, one is typical k-pop system and how the labels/industry work, whereas subtle hints of BTS and bighit being contradictory different is shown, BTS is different from other K-pop groups and BigHit is different from other idol music companies. These first few episodes can be misleading because it makes you think BTS management follows these guidelines the other idol members from other companies are talking about, but BTS and BigHit don't do those things. Notice how when it is said idols don't have a lot of creative freedom, you see Namjoon and Yoongi writing lyrics, or when it says idols have phone bans or something, you see the BTS members on their phones, or how when idols say they aren't allowed to go outside the dorm, you see Yoongi walking around freely. It can be a confusing thing for new ARMY to make note of, but PLEASE notice these differences. It is vital to how BigHit runs differently, and therefore why BTS is so different from other idol groups from the very start. *(Cr: "Kayla Kulik" on yt)*

When Jin said that he was away from his family. Many of the members come from different towns. And they move into a dormitory in Seoul. And only see their parents perhaps once a year. They transfer to new schools to be close to the studio.

Although things have changed quite a lot sitting on the floor to eat, watch tv, and to socialize at home is a traditional and cultural thing in all of Asia. If people are well off most likely they will have modern style furniture and the customs that comes with it. When my mom and I went back to Korea 15 years ago to visit our family eating on the floor was very difficult because I hadn’t done it for 38 years and my back was hurting so badly 😂. In most Asian countries calling strangers or acquaintances who are much older than you aunt, uncle grandma, grandpa, mother, father is socially correct. This document series is so good and probably my favorite. I’m glad you started on the series. Each episode comes with bonus and deleted scenes and I recommend you watch those as well. As I have Indian friends when we have huge gathering together here in the UK I'm used to sitting on the floor and and eating like that but because I'm not Asian people who don't know me will offer me a chair to sit on but I always say no thank you I'm used to siting on the floor (I do it a lot at home) save it for the grandma's. They'll offer me a knife, fork spoon but I can eat Chapti and curry without and curry and rice with out. My sister (best friend since we were 5years old) always giggles and says it's alright she's my sister. We are in our Fifty's now. When I make it myself at home I still eat the traditional Indian way as does my hubbie who lived in India as a child.

Gangnam is a rich district in Seoul where most of K-Pop agencies and luxury shops located. PSY's Gangnam Style has actually satirical social message. Also in one of RM's relatively recent vlogs from his apartment he just seats on the floor while eating from coffee table while couch is being his back. So, yeah, it's still part of the culture, but I think in public places they mostly have it Western way (maybe one of yhe reasons is that sitting on the floor requires floor to be clean and it is harder to maintain in public places, so chairs are more convenient).

@@DANDJREACT yes, idk about S.Korea, but in Japan in places where you can sit on the floor require you to take your shoes off and change into the slippers or just stay in socks. While taking shoes off in home is regular thing in a lot of countries (like I am from slavic country and it is given not to go in your or someone's house in the street shoes), but taking off shoes in restaurants, hair salons, ect. is mostly Asian thing and it can be a little time consuming for customer. And I think that can be another reason for western style restaurants in Asia. But this is just my assumption. I actually have more knowledge about Japan than S.Korea and not all of this knowledge can be universal for all Asian countries.

A few things to remember. The restraunt lady was referred to as auntie as per her age (Asian culture). When the boys say their age it is Korean age not international so JK saying 16 he was actually 14 (count a 2 year difference between international and Korean age). Jin was scouted because of his looks. He used to get his picture taken with random tourists as well. He did not know how to sing or dance. He was the youngest in his family and moving away too stay in a dorm was tough on him. Each of the boys had to move to Seoul some moved hours away as well. 💜💜💜💜💜

Same with other Asian countries as well I still use the Auntie, Uncle, sister, brother, even Grandma when I'm talking with older British Indians it just come's naturally. I'm not Asian myself.

Glad you guys found the parallel between what they do and sports - BTS really are equally musicians/singers AND athletes, with the amount of dance they do. Their stamina, core strength and breath control is insane. Jin recently said that he was shocked to find out he can hold his breath underwater twice as long as his school friends can haha. They used to practice singing on treadmills, or wear oxygen deprivation masks, all kinds of things to help them sing live on stage while dancing. It’s like they do 3 or 4 different jobs all at a high level (including being reality stars/entertainers/youtubers). I don’t know who came up with the idea for the youtube vlogs, but it’s probably a mix of all the things you mentioned: getting marketing attention and hype for the debut, giving them practice to get comfortable around cameras, allowing them to build a first emotional/personal connection with fans, and letting them vent their emotions.

Western pop music was around before MTV, Korea started getting a taste of it and incorporating their own style in the 90's. They didn't mean that their pop music stared with the TV because they had TVs sooner.

Yes it was us Brits that started music video's due to our Top of the pop's Chart every week as groups/artist were expected to be at the show and often those at the top of the charts were on tour so they'd make MV's and send them instead. It's the reason MTV had so many British artists on it when MTV started because they had a whole library of Music video's before artist's were making them in the USA.

Like you, before BTS, I never really cared about artists' personal stories. However, their story is not just about the glamorous life of celebrities; it's a positive and uplifting stimulant that inspires me to live my life more diligently. Even though I'm much older than them, I reflect on my own laziness as I watched the paths they have walked. However, I never thought you guys would start this series! I'm delighted by the unexpected joy. Of course, I'll stick around until chapter 21. It might seem like a lot now, but once 21 is over, it'll be a bit sad that there's no next chapter.😊 Thank you for starting this series💜

The boys started doing KZfaq vlogs because they had to find a way to reach an audience. Their company could not afford traditional marketing methods and channels. Bighit was on the verge of bankruptcy. I think it was a team effort to find ways to build their fandom.

"floor culture" is common in Asian countries. It's why you're expected to take your shoes off in households; so the floors are always clean. Even in some workplaces. You'll notice that there are piles of shoes left outside of their personal studios, which they treat like living spaces. This allows them to be comfortable (barefoot or slippers) for the many hours they spend there.

12:35 BTS were definitely roughing it those 1st 2 years. BH itself was financially unstable and even attempted to send all the guys home at one point but RM, Suga & J-Hope refused to move and thankfully some investors came through, this was pre-debut. But BTS themselves were in the red for at least the 1st 2 years. Suga has said that he felt embarrassed after their 1st music show win with I Need U because despite winning they were really struggling for money. I doubt that the major "big 3" labels dorms look like what BTS had. There's actually a reality show called I-Land produced by Hybe (corp that Bang PD founded) from around 2020 that BTS were on, and they walked through the dorm and it was like a Mansion compared to what they had. That was part of BTS' experience in the Industry, looked down on by other Idol groups/broadcasting shows because they were "poor".

I remember and they were surprised because the i land guys had so much food, TXT the other BigHit group was also in a small apartment sleeping all together even with the managers,I think it is a good policy on the part of the company so the boys appreciate everything they earn

Thanks for your reaction guys. So your question, the answer is in their recently published book. BIG hit nearly bankrupt. No resources. The other big company idol groups were doing variety shows. (money/power). They had to get themselves out there. KZfaq and social media was just blowing up; it was suggested to the boys they might try posting on social media (they had a blog where they posted their journey then later youtube. RM and Suga would post clips (according to an interview of them I saw) and upload w/o editing. But they poured their hearts out in those clips...as you can see. That was their own doing. They love their fans so much partly because they credit their "survival' to the fans that gave them support through these posts. Finally, please share YOUR story. BTS was meant to be a rap group but Big Hit encountered problems along the way. They were on the brink of bankruptcy so the only way to survive is to turn them into an idol group where dancing and singing are part of the act. Maybe that time an idol group is easily marketable than a rap group.

39:37 There's the cardio for just the dancing alone, but then on top of that the vocalists have to sing. I can't imagine. At the beginning the vocal line hated to sing live, but RM and Suga were really insistent. During a recent interview with Jin on Suchwita they talked about how they would sing on the treadmill, or jump around right before they sing in practice and they even used 02 deprivation masks that athletes use to train their lungs. Jin said in that same interview that recently when on vacation with friends, fooling round they all held their breath under water to see who could hold their breath the longest and he could go double the amount of time as anyone else.

Yes it is normal to sit at very low tables to eat. That lady was interviewed a while ago and spoke about how polite and intelligent they all were. If you watch Kdramas you will also see that many poorer people sleep on mats on the floor. Because they have such cold winters they often have underfloor heating. Jin talks about how he was on his way to university when the lady spotted him getting off the bus. He did continue with his degree and finally graduated in 2016 I think, he must have missed a lot of lectures etc because of touring.

every Korean agency has its "headhunters". they take to the streets, search social networks looking for beautiful, charming and charismatic people at first sight. then they hand out a card with their contacts and invite these people to audition on specific days. and that's how people get into agencies.

FYI about age in Korea: depending on what part of the year you were born, you will be 1-2 years older. Jungkook was 13 when he joined and Jin was 18

Yeah, when Jungkook says he’s 15, you need to take two, so he really was 13. J Hope RM and Suga were trainees for about 3 years, since 2010. The others except Jimin, we’re 2 years and Jimin only 6-7 months. They didn’t “fit” (except Jin) the Korean beauty standards so they got a lot of criticism because of it. This is where army came in: to protect the boys from xenophobia, criticism. So as the fandom grew army became more protective of the boys . Remember Korea maybe in the top 5 in technology and other areas, but as people they are more respectful of the elders, they refer to aunties or uncles or grandma to those of that age not necessarily because they are related but because of the respect thing

I think it is fair to say Big Hit knew just how disadvantaged they were when it comes to successfully promoting a rookie group compared to the Big 3 corporations. Big Hit had to devise strategies which perhaps to some extent were used by Big 3 corporations for their rookie artists but due to Big Hit's limited resources and opportunities had to be expanded upon and become central to Big Hit's business model. So from prior to debut to this very day Big Hit (HYBE) films an extraordinary amount of BTS and BTS member's lives. Further, members being acclimated from the very beginning with communicating with their fanbase, continue to voluntarily use social media and video platforms to interact with their fans.

7:35 This will be addressed in episode 3, but 15 hour days for student's is the norm in SK. When school's done most students will then go to cram schools. When I was tutoring English I was chatting with a Korean dad and his middle school/junior high aged daughter didn't get home until after 11pm weekdays and it's not unusual to see older kids/teens at 7-11 at that hour getting snacks or dinner before going home. It's really intense, the work ethic there is brutal, but when you consider the cultural context and how they literally had to rebuild from the ashes of the Korean (proxy US/Russian) war and before that Japanese colonialism it makes sense. They HAD to work that hard to get to where they are today. As RM says there is a dark side to everything, but at least what S. Korea has they worked for rather than stole which isn't something most other "1st" world countries can say.

In asian cultures middle aged women are often called auntie by the young. it's a polite form of address. The lady that runs the restaurant is not related to them.

It was their CEO Bang Sihyuk who made sure they did vlogs on a regular basis. He knew they were going to be big. Yes, Jin was cast on the street cause he was so handsome. Actually he was cast off the street twice. The first time he thought it was a scam, lol. I think that's why they wanted V also. He did great in the initial audition but I'm sure his beauty made an impression as well.

You will be flabbergasted to know our Asian culture and beliefs😂. Most of the Asians have a traditional but more like a practice to sit down and eat their meals. But not all restaurants does this kind of things. I being an Indian, sometimes eat on banana leaves with various dishes on special occasions. Also we Indian eat with our hands, a method scientifically proven which increases richness in tastes and also a special connection between us and our meals😂. Thailand has a similar culture of using banana leaves for various reasons.

yes the banana leave's my hubbie used to do that when he lived in India yet and eating with your hands I do that but neither I nor my hubbie are Indian. We just eat however other people around us are eating. I don't require a knife and fork or chop sticks I can also use those in either hand.

Loving the fact that you are watching Rise of Banghtan...thank you. The book BEYOND the STORY, documents their 10 years sharing with readers their own perspective, quotes and how they become ... From the moment they travel to Seoul to start their dorm and training predebut years till they are now. Those who don't like to read thier is Audible version too. Whole my life I enjoyed multiple artists and genres and I never ever Stan anyone for any reason... But reading the book made me aware and understand myself why BTS becomed part of my extended family.Totally new experience, I have never planned on. Btw, I am 46 old scientists, therapist with classical music background and passion for healing.

So glad you've started reacting to The Rise of Bangtan series...Aneesa really did an awesome job putting all of this together. I'm sure a lot of ARMY have been giving you insights about the content of this series. One thing I would like to comment on is about the legendary Seo Taeji...considered the father of Kpop 5:17. Back in 2017, when BTS was just starting to make it big in the western music industry (winning their 1st Billboard Top Social Artist award), Seo Taeji held his 25th Anniversary concert: SEO TAEJI 25 TIME : TRAVELER 2017. The only group Seo Taeji invited to perform with him was BTS! This was a huge stadium concert! During the concert, in front of 35,000 fans, Seo Taeji passed the theoretical torch to BTS and proclaimed them his successor, stating, “This is your generation now”. It was fun to see Choi Si-won in this. I have seen him in lots of k-dramas and only recently found out he was in the k-pop group super junior. I wonder if the reason so many idols are also actors is from all those years of extensive training as idols? Just finished King the Land on netflix and both the leads are k-pop idols.

It was was mostly marketing with input from the members once they saw the importance of it because they were a small label and they didn’t have the money to promote the way the big labels did. They needed a fan base before they debuted in order to win on the shows they had to do. Big labels could buy exposure. BangPD said he wanted them to be and write about their true selves. It was genius because fans connected to them on a deeper level and supported them in a way they would not have if they didn’t care about them personally. Getting an internet following brought in international fans.

Especially when the kpop mindset of the big companies and kpop in general was to distance themselves from fans to enforce the idol idea that they are above others. So bts was pretty revolutionary doing the exact opposite. Kpop at the time pushing a perfect image and bts pushing real boys with real problems: authenticity and vulnerability

American households started to get TV's as part of their household in the early 1950s, but a select few had them in the late 40s. In the 50s, Korea was extremely poor and were at war. It wasn't until the 70s and 80s where their economy started to take off. They are currently the fastest growing 3rd country to turn into a 1st world country in a little over 30 years. They have had the fastest internet in the world since the mid-2000s, but this is a relatively new tech hub in the world. Their households didn't have TVs until well into the 60s-70s. 18:30 The reason why Jin mentioned that his family wasn't there to take care of him is because at this point they were all living away from home. Their dorm was located in Seoul and none of the members are from Seoul. Also keep in mind that when they say their age, it's usually 1 to 2 years older than how we age ourselves. Traditionally, in Korea the time you spent pre-birth in the womb is considered your first year and then you age a year at the beginning of the NY rather than your actual birthday. So for me, I was Born in December. At birth I would be 1, and then January I would become 2 years old even though technically I was just born 1 month ago. That means Jungkook left home to live in the dorms when he was 13. When they debuted June 13, 2013 JK (youngest) was 15 and Jin (oldest) was 20.

They weren't larger than life idols when they lived in that dorm and all slept in one room. Those were standard bunk-beds 3x and one single... they were ages 13-18 in 2010-2011-2012 when they were being formed into BTS before they debuted 6-13-13. Also, keep in mind that when they mention their ages in these videos... it is 1or 2 years MORE than what we'd consider their age in the US. Korea JUST adopted the international age system, but before, you were considered 1 year old when you were born and then everyone was considered a year older on Jan. 1st... so V, whose birthday is Dec. 30th, could have already been considered 2 by the Korean aging system two days after he was born. When JK says he moved to Seoul at 15 to start training... he was 13 years old to us.

It wasnt that SK had TVs before the US, what the reference was is that Americans first heard pop music through the medium of radio (Think Casey Kasem) while SK teens learned about Western pop music through MTV. So when they started creating pop music, or kpop, the visual aspect was as important as the music itself.

It was niceto see Choi Siwon from Super Junior narrating, as SJ was a precursor group to BTS. Also Gagnam is the "Beverley Hills" of South Korea. In one online video the founder of Big Hit publically stated he did not restrict them or demand a certain amount of practice time- the BTS team was self driven. Thats why I think they support each other.

I swear, In the Whole Kpop Scenario the Idols Suffer the Most.... the Agencies, Media, Corporations everyone is using the hell out of Idols. Their Labels put them on strict diets, most of companies don't let the Idols Date, Idols' schedule is so Busy n Exhausting, their labels make them do insanely hardcore training, it would not be tht difficult for Idols if the company give them some more freedom and air to breathe...

Como já falei antes gosto de suas reações, lhes indico que tenham sempre em mente que esse documentário apresenta o kpop e como funciona essa indústria e o bts e como ele nasceu em meio a essa indústria, e também o bts vem de uma empresa pequena e de início com muito pouco recurso, seu dormitório era pequeno e apertado por isso, os vlogs foram uma ideia do suga e do rm e não da empresa, funcionava como um diário de suas vidas de treine pretes a debuta e também uma forma de se comunicar com futuros fã, eles não disponham dos recursos da big3 ou empresas grandes.

that lady who made food for them still own the same restaurant and all the walls are decorated with pictures of the memebers. it´s still the same small restaurant and it is part of the BTS tour. when you visit korea you can go on a BTS tour to see their old appartement and practice studio and also other locations. i know many army who went on the tour.

This Rise of Bangtan series was made by an Army. They don't even know about this. They didn't have a way to connect with their fans. You guys know that Korean talk shows didn't give them a chance.. So they just shared their thoughts, and daily activities with fans doing vlogs. This content creator used all old videos and made this masterpiece. Just because of her love for BTS.(not just her, a lot of Armys helped her) I mean that's what it is.. This is a fan-made content..

Hi, I am back. Good reaction, ty. So glad u started this series. Aneesa the creator of this docu series is an editor. It took her 4 yrs of research to create 20 plus chapters. Many army don't want this series to end. Aneesa has to do more research to tell the rest of BTS story. She sadly does not have time anymore. She was promoted. And she states she has moved onto her ch.2. I hope she does publish on here the last 3 chapters she has on her computer eventually. Pang PD is such a progressive thinker. I adore him. RM learned Eng by watching the TV show Friends. RM adores Nas a USA rapper. He listens to a lot of Western rap. Jimin was the last member to join. He was with them 6-8 months. Excited to hear your thoughts on ch.2. Hugs. -NY USA 2019 Army💟 Zizi K. said on 6/23/21 Kpop is not a genre actually, it's an industry because groups can choose whatever genre they want. I know you can listen to like one or two songs from a singer or group and get the gist of their sound but with BTS, their discography is so varied that you need to listen to a variety of the music to get who they are. Rayna said on 1/29/22 The first thing to understand is, that "K-Pop" is not really just a genre, it's more a whole industry.. As SUGA (one of the BTS members) once said: "I’m a little careful to talk about K-pop as a genre, because I don’t want to be defining Kpop as a genre. I’m a little bit wary of that, but I think rather than approach Kpop as a genre, a better approach would be ‘integrated content.' BTS is the OG of youtube they didn´t know why they should film themself and didn´t think anyone would se their videos. the CEO told them to vlog for their own history but also because he knew youtube was the new thing. it was on the rise and besides BTS didn´t have an alternative way of promoting.

They are my favorite reactors. Because aside from listening and reacting with the artists' music videos they also give time to do background checks about the artist, the language... the culture ( Not all reactors do that). That was not their aunt. They just called older lady auntie no relation 😂 they had to live together in a dorm so they did not have thier family around them to take care of them. I suggest the deleted sceens and bonus content for each chapter. I think the first chapter might not have it, but they have for others.

I’m not sure if someone else has already mentioned this but Korea’s age system which has only just been abolished adds 2 years onto their age so when RM said he was 20 years old he was actually just 18 at that point.

In traditional places , at least I know in Korea and Japan, it is normal to sit on cushions. The population is so dense that the houses were or are usually smaller and it’s easier to use areas as multifunctional. I’m Japanese Canadian and in Japan, the living area is also the sleeping area if it’s a small place. I slept on mattress on the floor that folded back up and put away in a closet so then the small table could be used as eating area and living area. I’m not sure if it’s the same. I have relatives in Thailand and they have a fully furnished home. I wish you a wonderful journey iwhen you move to Thailand nd hope to keep seeing more reactions! Borahae! 💜

I know I’m late to the party, but from someone who used to work at A&R in a small label back in the day, the VLOGS were a genius promotion tool. During this time in K-POP, there was a HUGE correlation between televised audition programs and successful debuts. (Kind of like how One Direction got put together). In the Korean market, all the big labels were linked in with tv programs to really showcase individual talent before debut to build recognition from the gate. BigHit label didn’t have that kind of pull and needed a way for the public to connect with BTS so they started vlogging. Don’t get me wrong, vlogging has been a thing for a while in KPop, but a lot of it was filtered by the agency and never done by rookies that didn’t know how to filter themselves. What was really interesting was that BTS were unfiltered (assumingely). I never worked for BigHit, but from colleagues I heard they were left to their own devices to accentuate their purpose of authenticity. (“Authenticity” being a core concept/narrative from a publicity standpoint)

In a lot of asian culture we address people in a polite form. If they are older you address them as “Older Brother/Sister, Aunt/ Uncle, Grandma/ Grandpa. Same with younger. Address etc. They aren’t necessarily blood related. Also sitting on the ground is just a style. *Lastly a lot of the training period in KPop isn’t really different from a lot of things. People who train for the olympics, goto schools for performing arts, sports, etc. You live breathe what ever it is. I think it’s great you ask and want to learn 👍🏻💜

If you are going to Thailand you'll find most people remove their shoes when going into another person's house. A glass of drinking water is served asap to you and often quickly followed by some freshly cut pieces of fruit. Don't forget the greeting either as that's polite the Wai with hands like pray hands and slight bow of the head. As men you'll use the words 'sawasdee khrap' If you are older but around the same age it 'Phi/ or even sometimes just P and your name, if you are younger its Nong and your name. You can use Loam for Uncle if you think the male is much older that yourself but not Grandfather age. It's different in South Korea but they will often bow there if they think you are older then they are. In Korea one of question's they'll ask is when were you born so they can work out the proper polite way to address you. Yes I've been to Thailand as my brother was a University Lecture in Bangkook.

13 of June 2013 was BTS Debut. Gangnam is a district one of the 25 districts of Seoul. It's not just a road name. It's a place where affluent South Korean's live and the district of Seoul that Psy come's from.

Gangnam is a district in South Korea. I don’t know much about it but I did watch a K-Drama called “my ID is Gangnam beauty” because Gangnam has a large(r) population of plastic surgery and the character in the show got plastic surgery and was called a Gangnam Beauty which a type of insult basically. Gangnam is also sorta an upper class city so Gangnam style basically means living a lavish lifestyle from what I know

Hi guys. Some of the info was in the Guide. For example Jin being cast in the street. I think you should watch the Guide one more time on your own time. This way you could refresh the information you got. This series are meaningful because of details about their journey. But you need to realize that it's a comparison of what the others agencies required and the creative liberty allowed to the guys. Also the word auntie doesn't necessarily refer to a blood related family member. It's a reference to a middle age woman in their culture as grandfather to a older man. Hope this helps a little I apologize for any grammar mistakes, English it's my second language an I'm still learning. Borahae Army 💜

@@DANDJREACT Some of the things mentioned were definitely in Taylor's guide. But the way it was said here may have gotten your attention more. The single statement of Jin being cast on the street was definitely due to his looks. This is not the way the BIG Agencies would do recruiting. Big Hit was a small fry and a bit different...and Jin must have had something in his look because he was the reason why I started paying attention to BTS. I do not personally think you need to go back and look at what you missed in the previous guide. This is not an exam. So no pressure. Most likely Army in the comments will remind you...😉that is how we are. You will remember things as you go along. This was a great reaction.

I think you got confused about the "South Korean pop music developed with the television". The US & other western countries were already creating popular music when phonographs & radio were the common technology in the early 20th century (1900's to 1930's) during the golden age of jazz crooners & flappers. The TV was invented in the US but eventually spread throughout the world. It just meant that South Korea got to make their own pop music during their age of television, as that was the primary electronic media used, as phonographs had long since got phased out by most of the world by then. The TV was the best media to use since it was both audio & video, not just audio like on phonograph (precursor to turntables) & radio. In this case, DKDKTV (original youtube channel narrating during that early segment) was also mainly referencing K-Pop, beginning in the mid 1990's, not just Korean pop in general which started decades before that. Also keep in mind that Korea was already using electricity by the late 19th century, so they aren't that far behind in technology. Korea already had their own pop music using traditional Korean music & Japanese-US trot in the early 20th century, but again, the narrator was most likely talking about K-Pop of the 1990's (& maybe also the precursors to K-Pop in the 1980's) to tie in to the context & narrative of K-Pop. It's a bit confusing perhaps. That is why K-Pop is not just music, it's also visual, because of the TV, which is why choreography is intrinsic to K-Pop. The formfactor & platform of K-Pop is Singing+Dancing. There are not many other music industries out there in the world that use that formfactor, except maybe Broadway musicals & Bollywood. However, K-Pop continues to evolve & one day, some future unknown yet-to-be groups may transition to becoming instrumental bands, but may still incorporate some dancing. Thus it could possibly have a future formfactor of Singing+Instruments+Choreography. A couple of past bands that did that best were The Jackson 5, & Prince. There are actually a few rock bands already signed under K-Pop music labels, like Day6, The Rose, FT Island, etc. That means the progress had already started. And this continuing progress towards playing instruments is a sign that K-Pop is slowing coming back full circle to its father & founder, Seo Taiji, who is first & foremost a rock/metal multi-instrumental musician. Again, that is the irony of K-Pop. Hopefully you will eventually react to Seo Taiji, including his hiphop-rock songs of the early 1990's & his Nu-metal phase of the 2000's & other genres, because his musical styles are diverse.

We can agree on the Training thing, but what differentiates Kpop and Sports is tht In Sports the Trainer trains their players to make them strong and capable, But in Kpop, the Main motive of companies is to make Profit from Idols. Idols after signing the contract with the company gets completely under the company's control. The companies make their life decisions. The Idols have no freedom. The Labels even play dirty tricks to make their idols popular like makin them to do cringy things in Reality shows and many more things. The Kpop Agencies whole moto is making Money. One more thing is diet, in sports proper diet is an important part of a player's training, but in Kpop, Idols r put on crazily strict diets. FOR EG, Twice's Momo ate only Ice cubes to lose 15 pounds before her debut , BTS Jimin once told tht there was a time when he ate Only 1 meal in 10 days to lose weight, Somi a soloist used to eat only 3 bananas a day on her diet, BigBig's Top just drank Water n jelly for an Entire week when he was on his diet. (n it's not exaggeration , it's true dear ) ):

I’ve trained professional athletes and trust me they go through the same tortures of strict diets that don’t make sense but they do it to meet team standards and they also have PR marketing teams forcing them to live and act certain ways to appeal to the public and media. It’s all the same corporate greed in both industries. Pretty sad but I guess it’s the price you pay for fortune and fame.
