Ray Kainz attempts to demonstrate the differences in clean tones between the Two-Rock Traditional Clean amp verses the Two-Rock Classic Reverb Signature.
Both amp heads were run with all knobs set at noon and all toggle switches turned off. Both heads were run with the same speaker cabinet/speaker.

They both sound very close. They both do the Mayer thing. However, CRS is more versatile. It can be tweaked to sound more like a Fender Super Reverb. It is my favourite of the two.

Could you also compare the CRS with the Bloomfield? Those amps are roughly the same price, the traditional clean is a bit 'cheaper'.

Thank you! They both sound fabulous. You hear EVERYTHING with the CRS, the TC is easier to play and smooth, but just doesn’t have the detail.

Adam Golden Question for you: Why not just buy a Fender for $1,000-$2,000 versus a Two-Rock for $5,000, if the Two-Rock emulates a Fender? I’m leaning towards a Two-Rock but mentally trying to justify the added expense.

@@shawnadams1693 the fender doesn’t have the incredible 3D sound and feel of a two rock, these things really are enhanced fender style amps. I am saying this because I have a small vintage fender collection and the two rock tc, the tc is way easier to work with at any volume and eats up any pedals unlike some fenders. (Clasic and beautiful old amps but could be Notorious for being loud, flub n ,ice pick)

From owning the CLRS and playing both, I agree that the CLRS has more edge and glass to the treble more like a vintage fender, though there can be more girth to the sound than a vintage fender. Traditional clean is rounder but still with a very clear, articulate, and broad spectrum sound. Traditional clean has an addictive “bouncy” feel to it that you don’t hear but you experience it as the player. Traditional clean is my preference and I’ll be selling my CLRS to buy one

I own the Traditional Clean, and the Studio Signature. I adore the Traditional Clean. The Studio Signature, which sounds more like the CRS, feels a bit stiffer and begs for pedals imo to feel good. It does sound bigger and bolder when you drive it hard though. More in your face. The Tradional Clean doesn't need pedals to feel great. It's my number one amp to plug straight into. But, if I had 5000 Euro on hand, I would love to have the Bloomfield Drive.

Both amps remind me more of JM than either SRV, classic fender cleans or vintage rock'n roll. But I have heard videos with a player who is able to beautifully pull some clean rock out some other two-rock amps.

Oh the classic reverb is nothing like john mayer in person. It's got so much more of the srv and Scofield thing. Its a phenomenal monster. The traditional clean is great too but it will not come close to doing the classic reverb thing. Where as you can get close to the traditional clean sound with the clrs, I feel you can't get close to the classic with the traditional clean. I have a trad clean and my buddy bought the classic reverb. I'm jealous as he'll. It's just way more vintage and so much more instant

There is something slightly sweeter or more vintage blackface Vibrolux reverb or something with the classic reverb but it's very subtle. Sweeter icing on the cake. lol I would choose the classic reverb. I also think it looks better with the white faceplate and cool knobs.

The Classic Reverb Signature is available with 4x6L6's at 100 watts, 2x6L6's at 50 watts or 4x6V6's at 40 watts. Each configuration can be switched to half power. Both amps used in this video are 100 watts with 4x6L6 output tubes.

I found that the TC is a great sounding but unfortunately also a more noisy than necessary amp. Especially with the Reverb Return dialed in above 9 o‘clock. On stage maybe not a problem, but at home it was not ideal - especially for the price.
@prspastor
@prspastor 4 ай бұрын
That’s interesting. My TC is dead quiet. I realize your comment was a year ago, but I wonder if you discovered if it was a noisy preamp tube or something that is easy to fix like an oxidized connection to the reverb pan.
@hjalmarconte4926
@hjalmarconte4926 3 ай бұрын
@@prspastor it depends if he is in Europe or in the US. In Europe, all of us have noise problems with TR amps reverb - it is due to the proximity of the output transformer to the reverb tank; the hum is accentuated by the 240v - at half voltage in the US the amps are dead quiet. I have discussed this issue directly with the people @Two Rock and they confirmed that is the issue.

I’d like to see a comparison with the gain switch up on the CLRS because that’s the “Two Rock” front end and the Traditional Clean is the Two Rock front end, you have the CLRS set on the blackface setting in this video
@matthewmilantoni3961

I think he’s talking about down setting as EQ 2 or “rock” setting. Not the 3 way gain structure. Could be wrong!
@Giballi24
@Giballi24 4 жыл бұрын
Matthew Milantoni yes eq2 is the default that the TC is on. The gain structure is set down which is the blackface one. If you’re comparing the two, do it on the gain structure where it’s up top, that’s the TR front end. In the middle is Schofield

Here's the nine yards about classic fender black face amps: Leo Fender was a wise cookie who wasn't betting on his solid body guitars taking over the market. Instead he voiced his classic 60's amps for Gibson and Gretsch hollowbodies that held the market. I can't prove that Two Rock never voices for hollowbodies, but what is the point of Two Rock designing an amp in the style of Leo Fender's but voicing them for stratacasters and Les Pauls instead of classic guitars of Leo's time, namely, hollowbodies?
