It’s fantastic to see how divided people are on this track! It was written in honor of the great Swedish musician Avicii, and I (Thomas) tried to stay true to the spirit of his EDM productions. Whether I was successful or not remains be be seen. Maybe I should check back here in a few years and see :) The entire track was designed around Avicii’s musical personality and I would never change that, out of respect for him. So here’s to an exceptional musician who we lost way too early, and to anyone struggling with depression and/or substance abuse. Let’s acknowledge their difficulties and offer our unwavering and relentless support! I have a small voice through music, and I will use it any way I can to try and make a small difference in people’s lives, but we all have the capacity to change lives through our actions, thoughts, words, art and work - and that is a choice that benefits us all in the end.

The first five minutes is a stirring ballad worthy of something like Lord of the Rings. The rest of the song involves learning that the Emerald Princess is a competent DJ, and has opened a club in The Shire.

*laughs in mirth* Oh dear, yes, yes the Emerald Princess has themes of Middle-earth. I felt it, likely as you did. This morning also, (for it as a good morning in all of the ways Gandalf describes ;D] I could not get LOTR music out of my mind. And now.... we find ourselves dancing and listening to the Princess with her flute. Tinuviel, she may not be, but, your comment sings with all the truth that any Elven choir could provide. For those of you who are haters of this piece, let me offer a couple of thoughts...The first being this, look at the sheet music...and I mean really look. First, the tempo doesn‘t change through the entire piece. Ever. The first half of the song is as fast as the second half. The difference being the use of half notes and whole notes to make you believe it is slower and more deliberate than the last half. In the last half, the layers of EDM come into play, with a lot more use of eighth notes in the backing track, which when added to percussion give a feel that it is much faster than the first half, when in point, the tempo never changes. This is the brilliance of this piece. Go read it, then comment again...I love it. I‘d conduct an orchestra in two for the first half, then four the second, but that‘s me...Thomas, this is just epic.

Nice analysis but to my ears it still sounds bad after about 6:00. The percussion (and other electronic sounds) makes this a disco melody - this is not what I am looking for in 2SFH. Btw I also dislike Orion album - for similar reason.

I know not many people like the second half, but think of it this way. Two Steps From Hell puts out a new song every Friday, sometimes more. They have covered all the moods, sad, happy, dramatic, they've done it all. In this song, a lot like Impossible, they cover a ton of the genres/moods. There is no way to satisfy everyone, some people really like EDM. So, with that said, cut Two Steps From Hell some slack. Though they do seem like gods, they are human, which only makes them more amazing. So thank you Thomas and Nick! You have truly outdone yourselves.

This, tremendously, really needs more upvotes. I cannot add a single thing in here that you did not already say. Much appreciated and once again, very well said! The first song I found from Avicii was Hey Brother, and it literally changed my taste in music. There's beauty and grace in how he writes and makes his music, you could feel each strand tells a story of its own and at the end of the day, they go so well together. People think that EDM can be soulless and it's true. Some EDM feels like your run of the mill music, but not his. There's energy in his work, spirit and love. It's not monotonous, more lyrical if sounds can sing. And that type of energy is the kind of thing that I look for in music. That love and spirit and beauty that permeates through every notes. So, thank you TSFH, for reminding me the energy of Avi through this beauty you have made. And thank you Avi, for introducing me to what music can be.

When the EDM part comes up, I can hear Aviici's voice within the music, as EDM is a language of his that those who understands it will hear. A language of his that those who know will understand. It is soothing to those who can hear it, as there was this faint whisper of his voice, seeping into my ears when the EDM comes up. As a tribute to Aviici, I can hear the fragments of his workand his voice, a wonderful sound that I will miss. You will wake up when it is all over, my friend. Thank you, Thomas.

2 years after first listening to this, it still holds as my favorite TSFH track. I added about 1,000 views to this track already. It’s what I listen to when I am actually committed to feeling well. It starts with my base emotion - grief(in many flavors), then transforms it to the uplifting state I want to be in.

This song is beautiful beyond words. It's like all of my favorite genres mixed into one; from the country/folk-style acoustic guitar in the beginning, to the classic Two Steps From Hell orchestra and vocals, to the uplifting EDM beat that gives the song a crisp, frisson-inducing climactic finish. I don't think I've ever had an 11 minute long stuck in my head before. This is an absolute masterpiece. Thank you so much for sharing your incredible talent with us!

Ok, after so many listening of this music, i decided to write a comment. It's only today I saw the message TSFH left, that they were in collaboration with this swedish musician. This made me really sad, because I love this music. I used to play it when I lost my father earlier in the year and this and JJBA help me to be ok. I didn't know about Avicii, but I wish to tell you, Thomas, that it's a great, an admirable work, you two made. Please, don't change anything. I hope that Avicii can be happy, wherever he is.

How are there people on this planet who don't love this? It is a masterpiece. And speaking as somebody who several times would have joined Avicii in the next life, if I hadn't been incredibly fortunate, I can't quite get across just how powerful music like this is. My worst times were eight years ago now, and I'm happily much better these days - but still, on the rough days, I listen to this, and my heart flies again with awe and wonder and love and I smile again, and on I go. Through this piece of music, I reconnect with the unbridled joy I feel at being well, and being alive, being here right now. This brings me back to life, I am sure it has the same effect on many others who have suffered, and through it - and thanks to you, Thomas - Avicii will live forever.

It's bliss when that music is able to unite and bind to you, like a soul-song. The Emerald Princess doesn't match the beating of our hearts, for sometimes the song is just running off pure adrenaline... it is great to run and bike to... I don't have any musical background in this lifetime but it always calls to me......this kind! The big, magicial, symphony sound with strings, horns, voices, everything playing together. And you are there in the music and its in you, then you're out there somewhere....out there in another place and time. Then its over and you see that 11 mins. went by......but you need more mins......so you play it again. Thank you Thomas, love your music & you......wonder if you know how many people you touch, how many love Thomas Bergerson

I am speechless and frozen every time in the wake of this song and imagination invokes thoughts and dormant emotions I never thought existed. I tried to perform this track on my violin a few years ago, but it was an impossible endeavor and I tried for six months. I perfected the first 5 minutes into the song but from there on it breaks down I can't complete it. It's too powerful. I've broken dozens of strings and out of frustration and acknowledgement of defeat I quit trying to copy it. It's an incredible piece of art and so beautiful.
