We had fun testing out this three step aider paired with sticks. This is a method I will continue to use. As with all climbing methods, it has its strengths and weaknesses. Be sure to test for yourself and find what works for you!

I’m going to try cranky steps for the first time and install them as high as I can reach and like a 5 step aider for the first time, I was thinking if it works out I should get 20 feet easy with 4 cranky steps and aider.Have you ever tried this approach?

I'm pretty sure I was only 8 feet last Friday when I killed my doe. I had Russian olive and buffalo berry behind me to break up my outline. Not being skylined has a lot to do with it. Good wind and sitting still help too. Not sure where you are in your life, but if you can get that young lady to accept a ring she's a good prospect. Any gal who climbs trees for you is worth investing time into. I would love it if my wife was my best hunting buddy.

Thanks! Linds is a pro now! Great question! I attached a small strap to the molle on the saddle and simply hang the stick in that groove. I turn the muddy stick upside down and slide it in the slot between the foot pegs and the stick itself. You can see in the video how they’re oriented pointed down while on the saddle. On other saddles I just tied a loop of paracord on two sections of molle and do the same thing. Works like a charm. You can also weave a wire gear tie through the molle and twist it around the stick. I’m experimenting w that but for now the strap seems easier. In this vid you can see what I’m talking about better: kzfaq.info/get/bejne/aatnbNiJzbm1ooE.html Let me know if that helps or if I just confused you more!

That's about as lightweight as you can get & still be safe. Being as tall as you are, being picked off with movement required when saddle hunting is a challenge. After one season playing with it, I like the novelty & versatility of the saddle, but if there's a tree I can climb with my lone wolf climber, I feel the advantage goes to the climber (I'm risking saddle community excommunication by admitting this). Great video, I'll see you on Instagram too.

@SeasonsChange24
@SeasonsChange24 4 жыл бұрын
David Fleer thanks for watching and commenting! I’ll try to do something like that later. I hunt in hiking boots or the boots you saw me wearing in the video so stepping into the loops is never an issue for me. I do have some rubber boots with a wider profile... it’s too hot to get in hunting clothes this time of year 😆 But maybe later. I’ve hunted off sticks forever and yes, obviously it’s harder to hike your leg up in heavy pants. So in heavy pants don’t climb as high. No big deal. Climbing down is exactly the same as climbing up in reverse. If I get around to filming in hunting clothes I’ll show that next time.

I've found that for me in late season wearing some lacrosse alpha burly that the step ladder or trier aiders are tougher to climb down. Especially if you don't have a perfectly straight tree. It's doable but you have to be methodical and slow. I've since switched to a versa aider made by back woods mobile gear and it makes the climb up and down much easier. It does limit my height some but trade off is worth it.

@@SeasonsChange24 you could do a simple repel setup with a vt backup and pick up your sticks on the way down, for the anchor you can do a carabiner or a quick link if you’re on smaller trees where side loads an issue and have a lead line behind the hitch to pull it down. Driving to work everyday provides much more job security for first responders than deliberately climbing a tree while wearing a lineman’s belt. While a lineman’s belt or flip line isn’t a 100% solution, if used properly, it will bite into the back of the tree and keep you from falling to the ground. You may get bruised by the tree or cut by your stick but the goal is to avoid major injuries from an uninterrupted fall. I’d invite you to take a look at the first hand accounts of gentlemen on saddlehunter.com and come to your own conclusion. Most falls from tree stands occur when the hunter isn’t using any safety equipment at all.
