Grids are becoming more commonplace in many areas of graphic design these days and for good reason. They can make all the difference in how accurate and professional a design looks. Whether it be a logo design, icons, typography, compositions they can be used in so many ways to achieve consistent and precise proportions and spacing. The Rectangular Grid Tool and Polar Grid Tool in Illustrator allow us to create exact grids with control and ease, and can be a great entry point for those who haven’t worked with grids before. my up arrow and down arrow just moves the polar grid. It doesn't change the shape. Can you help me?

Hey, are you using the arrow keys while clicking and dragging?

No, I used the arrow keys after clicking

@@FarhadKhan-oo9ov ah okay, you can only add/remove segments while clicking and dragging. As soon as you let go with the mouse it will simply move the object you've created 👍

This is a game changer for (self taught) me! However, when I use the arrows all it does is move the object. I can't figure out what I'm doing wrong!

Hey Susan, that's great to hear! Ah it may be that you've let go of the selection before using the arrows? You can only add/remove dividers while still clicking and holding when creating the grids. Hope that makes sense and that this helps, but please let us know if not ir if that's what you've been doing and you're still having this issue 😊

when I use the shape builder tool it creates a lot of small paths and points. I have tried overlapping the shapes in wire preview as well. not sure what I'm doing wrong.

Hey Steph, yes unfortunately this often a byproduct of using the shape builder tool. It's a great tool in terms of its ease of use but it doesn't always do the cleanest job and this is something that's hard to avoid. My advice is always to cut away the shapes you've created with Cmd/Ctrl X and then simply click and drag over any remaining paths and points and just delete them, then paste the cut shape back in with Cmd/Ctrl F. It's not ideal but better than nothing 😊Hope this helps!

What happens from 3:18 to 3:19 you have grid lines on the D at first, to NOT having grid lines just over the D? I follow along clear up to that point, I can never get rid of the grid lines. Something I'm doing wrong with the grouping or un-grouping. I don't get it!
