Arguably it’s the second 100 that is important, the first 100 you are using the Atp-pc system. The second 100 is where you switch to glycolysis so that is where you need to worry about fatigue. That’s is y you get out hard, float the back stretch and then start cycling faster. Tyson gay is also 1-2 guy so that system was probably not as good as the others 400 specialists.

ATP reserves generally don't even last the full 100. My trainers always said that you should blast the first 50m, then start lifting up and lengthen your stride, float the back straight, "accelerate" through turn 2 and hit the gas to the finish
@okmoney20483 жыл бұрын
I was decent at the 400m in high school. I think its important to know your own strengths and weaknesses when running the 400m. I always tried to blast out of the blocks and build up gradually to about the top speed that I could maintain at a consistent pace (my stride). I'd hit my stride at about the 150m then begin my final push to win at about the 275m. I would normally be gassed at about the 375m and rely on momentum, form, and cheering to carry me through the finish line. The last 25m was always grueling. I'm sure there was a better way, but it worked for me. It all really depends on conditioning and genetics.

It is that third 100 metres where runners such as Michael Johnson take control of the race. your 2nd 200 will never be faster than your first 100 in a 400. Whether you take the race out fast or slow, it will hurt. Just don't strain yourself on the backstretch(2nd 100). Keep the same speed you had coming off the first turn. It;'s easier to maintain speed than reaccelerate in a race.

@@bluea5951 for training, run workouts for speed such as 5x150m full sprint with rest, another day needs to be fore special endurance (fighting latic acid) so do 3x300m at full speed with rest... once you learn to run the 300m, the 400 isn't much different. Basically my "race plan" is to get out hard, gradually come up, maintain that speed and run relaxed (but it should still feel fast, efficiency is key)... then once you've focused down the backstretch, give it all you've got entering the last turn... mid way through it, things will get painful, but you have to keep that power in your stride and breath through it, pumping your arms and relaxing your face

It's not so much the distance, as the intensity that counts. You run 400m at 90% or more of your full sprint speed. And that energy system is only good for about 40 seconds before your body starts to break down. Races that are more aerobic (800 and up) use a more efficient energy system. I'm not saying those events are painless, but it does depend a lot on your aerobic fitness and how well you pace yourself. With the 400 the fatigue is guaranteed because of the way we respond to prolonged anaerobic energy use. No one can run even 300m all out like a 60m without serious pain and slowing down. 400m pain is a step below that.
@TheWayToWin3 жыл бұрын
@@afamobi93 No one can run even 60m all out.
@gameslayer4043 жыл бұрын
@@TheWayToWin Some people don't even get to full speed at 60m, where did you get that from?? The first energy system used in a sprint I believe is called the creatine phosphate cycle, it might be called something different but whatever. Anyways this system lasts up to 10 seconds, and for an all out sprint lasts at most 7-8 seconds, and atleast 5 seconds. So using basic math that means the sprinters with the most efficient creatine phosphate cycle can continue accelerating till around 7 seconds, which by then is past the 60m if you're an elite level sprinter.

Can you tell me what strategy did MJ and by van Neikerk followed on their world record races respectively????
@kylejones57393 жыл бұрын
Wayde ran way faster in his first 200m than MJ for sure. MJ was a lot smoother and finished stronger in the latter half. The difference between their records came in the 2nd 100m. Wayde ran 9.7 and MJ was around a 10.1. Safe to say that MJ used the second strategy and Wayde used the first.

Michael Norman may now have the best combo of speed, power and endurance as he closes very hard and now has his peak speed up. He can cruise a 21.0 first 200 and hold the next 100, closing the last 100. If Gardiner is to get him he must "lay down the law" on the 3rd 100 and hope he can withstand the charge of Norman. Niekirk, let's get real is NOT in the conversation. He was great FOUR years ago, but since then is up against it with these two. Kerley I would not put money on as he IMO has issues...

this video is incorrect on so many levels. You rather your first 200 to be faster than your last... you want to leave the blocks fast but not die out either. However you’re saying to start off with slow acceleration. The first 50 meters of every race should start off almost as fast as you can go. there’s a reason why the world record holder does that.

The Gospel: We sin against God and for our sins we deserve hell. We fall short of God’s perfect standard for heaven. But the good news is we have a way to be forgiven, that way is through Jesus. Because he loved the world, he came, lived a sinless life then died on the cross for our sins, paying the price which is death. He was buried and rose again on the third day. Through Jesus we can be forgiven of our sins. If we put our faith in him we will be saved, ✝️

Yea dawg this is just incorrect. Your first 7 seconds are basically free and inconsequential towards the latter half because your body is using a different system. Running a fast 400 is about maintaining speed, not coming home faster than any other part of the race

His 200m PB is 19.58 almost a second better than that of Butch Reynolds. Tyson Gay could easily go sub 43 with proper race distribution, considering his incredible elastic strength and phenomenal speed.

@@TheWayToWin I don't mean to bash on you too much because I still respect that you are looking at the event from outside the box, but no. Tyson Gay could not go sub 43. The 400 is all about speed endurance (holding really close to top speed for as long as you can). Athletes like Gay whose natural strengths are more suited to shorter sprints could execute a perfect race and still not break 45 because they're just not built to. You talk about accelerating in the second half of the race, but if you have that much energy left you will be too far behind the rest of the field. There's no kick in the 400, only being able to hold on better than anyone else
