Hi Les, superb little boilers and engines, perfectly built. I really like the look of the brass outer shell on the vertical boiler. I find miniature sheet-metal work, as per your miniature vertical boiler design, to be a major challenge (Bending, cutting, riveting and filing etc ) Thanks for showing these engines.
@LeslieProper7 жыл бұрын
Hello SteamerEdge, the vertical boiler on the wobbler is made from a single piece of 1.5 inch brass sink drain pipe. The chrome coated brass pipe, which is all you can buy in hardware stores works just as good, but the chrome finish get damaged by the silver soldering. The vertical steam boat boilers are a little different. I use the same brass sink drain pipe to make the pressure vessel part of the boiler and then a light sheet metal wrap for the outer shell. This enables a layer of insulation between the inner pressure and outer shell. The pressure vessel by itself is easier to silver solder and a super heater pipe can be added. The steam boat design boiler will produce more steam than a similarly sized wobbler boiler.

Verry nice looking engines Sir. I like how you made the exhaust on the horizontal one go back into the tank. Shame that just as with a turbo it ruins reliabillity haha.
@davidhays7816 жыл бұрын
You have a remarkable skill and two beautiful machines as well. I was thinking, instead of losing water through the exhaust, build a pump to put exhausted water back into the tank. This would also show these magnificent machines at self sufficient work as well.

Thank you for the kind remarks. Maybe some day.

I have a series of videos where I show how to make my Dragonfly BB pistol. The same machine tools used to build my steam engines were used to build the BB pistol. Thanks for your comments.

Fantastic work! I'm currently working on a 3200sf train layout and this would be an amazing feature to add to the sawmill portion of this project. Do you have any resources on where I could find a working horizontal steam engine? I already have one modeled, but this is way more exciting! Any help you have in this area would be very much appreciated. Thaks!

Sorry, but I can't help you. I have built several horizontal mill engines from scratch, but I never made a plan.

Les, Do you have a video of you making the boilers? I would like to learn your technique and possibly adopt it to be used in making a fuel tank for my gas engines. Currently I'm converting small tomato paste cans, but it's not the look I really want. Shoot me an email if need be. Thanks, Matt

safety valve??
@LeslieProper6 жыл бұрын
Yes, it is the little ball on the top of the fill cap. It is held down by a little spring and is set to release at about 10 psi.
