Rice is an important strategic crop in the economy of Ghana which is cultivated as both food and cash crop.
Rice consumption continues to increase due to population growth, urbanization and change in consumer habits.
In this interview, we talk to a former manager of Nestle West and Central Africa who is in charge of Cocoa Plan to help us understand why he resigned to become full time farmer and if it's worth it.

I am happy and impressed with this interview. Farming should not be looked upon as a thing for those without formal education. Our parents did it their way to feed their families now it's time for us to do it our way, and feed the nation. Thanks Enyonam and Freddy.

You are underestimating farming. Farming takes a whole range of skills from chemistry, business, hydrodynamics, biology, and agriculture. In the late 1800's, most of the FDutch Farmers had a college education which allowed them to maximize profit by developing technology and understanding market dynamics, supply and demand, etc.

All the things said about market, commercial,finance and what have you. But.... How can the majority of the people who do not have what it takes to go into all these? For example: If i have the passion, interests or just trying to make a living out of agriculture,do i have to go out and do all these as a beginner? Take all what said in mind but if you don't have what it takes don't wait just start like how our local people do it then you scale up.
