Dodol basically made from coconut palm sugar, coconut milk & rice flour...Dodol is cook by constantly stirred all ingredients in a big wok for 2-9 hours, durian is just an optional ingredient.. Aside from durian, both of you should try 'Cempedak' fruit, same genus with jackfruit & breadfruit, but more sweeter than jackfruit..Cempedak can easily be found around South East Asian countries only like durians..Cempedak also can be deep fried with batter & it taste like cotton candy(say some of the tourists)... 😊

Original dodol is just made from coconut milk and palm sugar. But sometimes they add flavour like pandan or durian. Even though the ingredients are simple but it's a labour intensive snack to cook. Generally it takes around 8 hours to cook.

Dodol is made of Glutinous Rice (Sticky Rice) flour... sometimea they add durian as flavouring...

The one on a stick with durian and brown sugar is actually called 'dodol' with durian taste. Dodol is a popular Malacca delicacy. You ought to try the dried cuttle fish in Jonker Walk. It is very good.

I hail from Melaka but now I am based in Penang. Glad you liked my hometown. A longer duration of stay is a must as Melaka has got so much more to offer. The Peranakan culture and food is something you guys need to dive into. Perhaps if you are again in Melaka, do pay a visit to the Peranakan Museum for a better understanding of the culture. Jonker is indeed a Dutch word. It's pronounced as Yonker. But most of Malaysian pronounce it Jonker. (J as in Jam)

Yes, durian is indeed an acquired taste and you either love it to bits or hate it. I can relate to your experience because it's similar to when I tried surstromming when I was in Europe back in 2014. Initially I threw up, but after a few tries, I grew to stomach it. Definitely not a favourite but I can handle it. Maybe you'll grow to like durians too.

You guys should try cincalok, otak-otak, ikan bakar with sambal belacan Melaka, asam pedas with many varieties, putu piring, kueh bakar and many more.. Btw, dodol is a traditional Malay sweet creamy candy made of normal rice + glutinous rice, coconut milk, gula Melaka (coconut sugar) 😋

Durian has a strong pungent+ bitter/sweet creamy taste depending on the quality n price! For all I known n have tasted; my closest definitive relation ; the " ripen smashed- pumpkins" are kins to our tropical "kingy-durians". Well, tats according to my closest palett-analysis ! Cheers n enjoy once in a life-time! Lovely, yet curious insanity: " dun judge the fruits by its thorny-shape!

€16 for a pair of Converse is highly unlikely that it's genuine. Unlike street food where you pay asking price, street merchandise should always be haggled cuz asking price is typically 30-50% more.

Yeah, they pronounced it correctly. YONG-KER. The parallel street to Jonker is Heeren Street, derived from the Dutch word Heren which means gentlemen.
