I just watched a guy in colorado use a magnet jn the river to collect black sand. In an hr he had about 7 lbs, of black sand and it was a powerful magnet the sand was thick on it. I'll tell him to take it home and use a weak magnate to separate the gold. Good info.

Thanks Gary for your videos. After a day of dredging I hand pan my cons to 20 mesh and then classify and run the rest through my blue bowl. I hadn't thought about doing it dry though, thanks for the tips! I save my bigger rocks and run the falcon over them just to make sure nothing is getting away. I am curios to watch the future video with the tumbler and mercury as I haven't messed with mercury at all.

I'm moving out of this state because we are the highest Taxed state in our union, They took a big fat dump on our 2nd Amendment rights and now I find out that I can't even take my son out to pan for gold. Our Governor is horrible and dose Nothing to improve this state. every time we turn around there is some new law that prevents anyone from doing things they love, like panning. Sry for the rant... I know there's gold in the river near where I live, have pan shovel even a white gold detector, wanting to try my hand at it which is why I'm binge watching your videos lol.. the river has boat loads of black sand a few rocks+ small gravel, not allot of big rocks to look in crevice.. my question is where to get sand from, it's not all black there's normal beach sand type sand bar that sparkles like crazy when the waters low and it's exposed., Thanks and I subbed

It seems that there are a few replies regarding separating black sand by means of chemical or heat application. I would say it is certainly possible but the increase in cost of such methods may well out way the derived value of gold attained.

The black sand doesn't rust because it's already in the form of an oxide meaning the oxygen atoms are already bonded (if that makes sense). Magnetite will be attracted by most of the store bought magnets but the hematite black sand will remain. Hematite is only very slightly magnetic. So the only way to remove that stuff is to either use one of the big neodymium magnets or to clean it up with the spiral or the blue bowl (mercury being an option most would tend to avoid). One of the cool things about magnetite is they are like tiny 8 sided crystals. It still amazes me how small those crystals can be.

Man I wish I could find what you call real fine gold here in Ga. Those are nuggets where I live. It would take 15 pieces to equal 1 of yours. It is true flour gold but there's plenty of it.
