This is part 1 of 2, for the first day through the Skyline drive by motorcycle. It's a beautiful park, even when overcast, with lots of spots for cool photos and to stop and relax. The road itself is winding but nothing difficult, designed to just be enjoyed slowly. The speed limit is low at just 35 and even when wet is no problem. Featuring endless overlooks to either side, the road goes pretty much down the spine of the mountain through the Shenandoah National park.

Great video - the FJR a great bike from running errands around town to cross country trips. The fall season was my favorite time to ride when I lived in MD.

Brings back fond memories. In 9-09 found a deal on a new 2009 K1300GT in NJ. Flew one way to pick up the bike and rode the Skyline and Blue Ridge down to Asheville then back to the Tampa Bay area just like you.

Cool trip with the train and stuff, I would've never even thought of that as an option. I've done the skyline drive/BRP thing myself - I could certainly see the value Skyline Drive if you live in a flat place (i.e. Florida..) and want to maximize mountain time, but if you ride mountains normally, I personally would recommend skipping the Skyline portion. Too expensive, too slow, and too many tourists stopping in the middle of the road every time they see a deer or something. The BRP is an awesome way to get in a couple of days of good riding though, and camping too if that's your bag.

Nice video. Was up on Skyline Drive at the end of January, but sadly could not travel south of route 33, Swift Run Gap, due to road conditions. Pretty awesome time of year to visit - weather permitting - with much less traffic. Scenery was fantastic as the visibility was very good.

Enjoying the video. At 19:58Regarding the "government funded parking patrols"--Most departments allow their officers to work extra jobs directing traffic or working security for area businesses or churches. The only funding is the wear and tear on the vehicle and a little gasoline. And police essentially are parking patrols anyway right? (=Most folks don't know that we work extra. Hard to make a living on what most cities pay us..

Hey, you're riding around my home (or at least starting your journey from), and shopping at my store. Your GPS definitely screwed you for getting to CycleGear.... Should have taken you off at the exit right before the interchange (Exit 169). You can see the sign at 13:49, Franconia/Springfield. Would have been there in 3 minutes. I goofed that up enough to know... ;) Love the videos, I want to do this trip myself. Nice looking bike too!!

Bryan, I know they might be way outside of what you're willing to spend ($200), but I bought a pair of TCX Jupiter EVO Gore-Tex boots for cold/wet weather riding and they are a size 48 (Italian for US 14.). I. Also have a very wide foot at 6'2" 300+lbs, but I got lucky on the fit and feel of these. They keep my feet dry and warm and they have a reinforcement for the shifter. Ordered from Revzilla with free shipping.

Try 9-11 gear boots. That's what I wear as a duty boot as a firefighter. They are quarter highs and I like a side zip. But you can get with just laces. They are good quality and run about 100. I get an allowance of 85. Web site is 9-11 gear . Com. I believe.

Yamaha FOR 1300, wonder if I could fit on that and still move handle bars ? 33 inch inseam, 6'08" Tall, 15 inch boots for traction on road stops and bike. Since I am looking for a bike Togo from West Coast to East Coast in May or June.

Cool video. Where/how do you mount your camera so you can narrate while you are filming? I have some bike videos of the desert in Nevada but only music. I also like the mount for your phone. I will have to research that one as well. Fun video!

Twowheelobsession... Mr Glen, Love this time of the year here in my North West Washington State or Olympic Peninsula. Rain Forest, but downfall here is it rains so much, but beauty not seen anywhere else to mach it, yet. Florida I have not been to yet, states above New York nor Alaska either. Hawaii is yet to be at...6 states in all to have been in the United States. I noticed how quite your bike is ? Do you have a modified muffler or is it the one it came with ?

Sometimes I dislike spell checker, Yamaha FJR1300, not For 1300. Looking for comfortable bike, not leaning so far forward to feel like handstand, not too far as to feel like laying down for napping. Harley-Davidson need bucks. Thought BMW, Triumph came across my mind, then Spanish models, ect. Grew up on Yamaha motorcycle 175 DT. Modified. Being full height of 6'11" Tall in 12th grade, made name for self in Heavy Industry (Logging, Trucks, ect).

Do you know what causes the distortion in the video. Its like the video gets out of focus and blurs then comes back. This same thing happened to me on my last video and I'm not sure what causes this and how to make it better. This a link to my video...It starts when I'm using the gopro with the helmet setup. It’s just KZfaq. When you upload a video KZfaq reprocesses it to make it smaller. Quality suffers. When high detailed fast moving scenes appear it gets overloaded. That’s the simple explanation.
