The first time I saw pardo Coq de Leon was on a video by Kelly Galloup. I thought that stuff was so cool I immediately called and the only one he had was the one he used in the video. I bought it. Never thought to use it as a post for a para olive.

Dave, I love your KZfaq channel and the simplicity of the way you tie the flies. I in the US and interested in Victorian era salmon flies....mostly for the art of them as I have no need to fish with them ... as I fish for trout and bass here... I would like to know of a good trustworthy source to get one or two for display. Thank you. Tim S.

Great fly as always Davy 👍. Have you got a tying for the claret dun that hatches on many of the hill lochs? It’s hard to find a pattern for them.
@DavieMcPhail
@DavieMcPhail 4 жыл бұрын
Hi Alan, I used a ginger quill when they were on the water especially when they were coming off though I have caught on other flies as well like a claret and a hare's ear shuttlecock..I'm glad you enjoyed the video... All the very best Davie..

Did enjoy it, Davie... thank you. I don't know if I'm seeing a thing correctly... the dubbing in front of the wing post looks like it is moving the forward pointing hackle fibers back towards the sides. So it's clear of the fibers in the front area... yes? Thanks for the help, Davie... Mike
@DavieMcPhail
@DavieMcPhail 4 жыл бұрын
Hi Mike, Yes you are right they are lying back as the dubbing is holding back the hackle fibres so all you have to do is pull them forward although it makes no difference to the fly as it will still float ok and it does look good to me and more natural like..I'm glad you enjoyed the video Mike as it is a great pattern to have in your box... All the very best Davie..

@@DavieMcPhail Thank you, Davie... I assumed having the hackles clear at the front was one of the points to the tie. It reminded me of a fly Bonnie Harrop invented... a parachute rusty dun ( like a sherry spinner, near as I can tell). She trimmed the front quarter-ish of hackle away and turned it into a spent spinner. Story is, it changed the effectiveness of the pattern quite a bit.

Beautiful tying. I have numerous coloured peacock eyed herl, some pre stripped but the two toned effect does not look as prominent as yours, it still looks mostly dark, what company sells the best.
@DavieMcPhail
@DavieMcPhail 4 жыл бұрын
Hi Paul, The peacock I used came from Veniards, I buy them as 100 X-large peacock eyes and out of these I will normally get around 40% which are like the ones I used in the video the rest are still good enough to use on normal flies so there's no waste..If you know a shop that stocks their materials they should be able to order you some..I'm glad you liked the fly and thank you for the kind words.. All th very best Davie

Thanks for the info Davie, it was greatly appreciated, I just got back in to fly fishing and fly tying last year after an absence of 12 years which kept me out due to a shoulder injury, all my fishing in the last 12 years was match fishing. Nothing can beat the excitement of a trout rising to a dry fly especially if it's one you have tied your self.

Morning Dominique, I am not too fussy what way the hackle turns with these hackles but the shiny side up would be the best looking but the fly will still float either way...It is a lovely pattern to tye and fish.. All the very best Davie..
