BRAVO, all your flys🎉 are so good. Never forget if I remember well that the deer feathers are perfect for the dry flys. But 👏🏻 BRAVO nice.

We were fishing at this smallish mountain lake down in Crowsnest Davie. This lake is so pretty, but it was a long way to go cast to. There was a long shelf out there, but it was a serious distance to wade and cast. The rising fish were just another ten feet away. We put these on and it was just enough to reach some of the outside fish. That streamlined foam was just streamlined enough, to get you out there! Not huge fish but there were a lot!! We were glad to have them.

Hi Davie. Thanks for the video. Any tips on not having the hair spin round and not sit on top like yours? I’ve heard of putting a loose turn around the hair before the shank and then tightening up. I was using deer hair, is elk less prone to this? Thanks in advance!
@DavieMcPhail
@DavieMcPhail 5 жыл бұрын
Hi Scott, I would say Elk is easier to keep on top as it's slightly stiffer though as long as you keep a firm hold of the deer hair as you tye it on it should stay, waxing your thread will help give you more grip.. Merry Christmas... All the very best Davie...

Hi Davie from Italy, i Have question regarding this dressing. As dubbing is it ok if I use Kapok or something else instead of the dubbing you uses? I don't have a lot of experience and I want to improve my capacity. Can you tell me the right material as dubbing (kapok ore something else) e for this fly?
@DavieMcPhail
@DavieMcPhail 4 жыл бұрын
Hi giacomo Morini, Kapok would be a great dubbing to use on this fly as I feel it could be used a lot more than it is, I had a lot of Kapok at one time and used it in small duns that I fished with great success.. All the very best Davie

Hello Davie. Great little caddis fly there mate. When your wipe finishing the head could you put a small amount of dubbing around that? And could you go smaller Davie? Best Regards, Ken
@DavieMcPhail
@DavieMcPhail 10 жыл бұрын
Hi Ken, You can add a bit more dubbing to tidy up the area where you have tied off, It does look better when you start to fish with it as all flies do in my view...I'm glad you liked it... All the very best Davie

Dear Davie, Do you ever fish a dry- dropper? If so, what is your preferred dry to use. (When there is no discernible hatch) I like to fish tungsten beaded nymphs , so something with lots of floatation perhaps. Kind regards, Colbee
@DavieMcPhail
@DavieMcPhail 8 жыл бұрын
Hi Colbee, I have used many a dry fly to help present a nymph pattern on the river and lochs as well as to catch with the dry fly at the same time. I would also put a dry on the point to keep the nymphs close to the surface which is a great method and caught me many fish over the years...If you were using a tungsten weighted nymph you will have to beef up your dry fly to support them.. All the very best Davie

Hi Davie, what colors do you use for this fly? Is it important that the color of the foam is yellow or is it less important. It is good your back, I love you tying movies. Andre.
@DavieMcPhail
@DavieMcPhail 10 жыл бұрын
Hi Andre, When I've used this fly myself I've mostly used the yellow as this was the original colour and has worked perfectly, though I have used grey and brown on other species like the grannom..I'm glad you enjoy the videos... All the very best Davie

the yellow foam is used mainly so that the fly is more visible to the angler, and on top of that that color has proven itself to be very effective over the years, so yeah yellow is the color to go for

Morning mariu lax, I like to have the foam for this size of fly around about 3mm thick but a little heavier for the bigger flies and for the smaller ones I just give the foam a stretch to make it thinner.. All the very best Davie..

@DavieMcPhail
@DavieMcPhail 6 жыл бұрын
Hi paulus837, I've mostly fished this fly on the lochs when I was a fishery manager and I would fish it static, pulling it fast and twitching it as it's a good all-round pattern...It's a good pattern and worth having in your box.. All the very best Davie
