I just did a half dozen 7.5" B2 squid rigs pink & glow with tandem j hooks & tandem circles did em same as you did - snelled lead hk crimped rear hk. Didnt think to offset circles & open the gap up but makes real good sense thx. I also liked the scissor swivel snap idea on the spreader bar. I came up with a scent chamber that might make you laugh but I think it will work perfectly. I made a bait dough with instant mashed potatoes & enough pro cure oils of my choosing & some pautzkes halibut nectar & some anchovie paste to a consistency of well mashed potatoes. I bought a bunch of those stainless steel screen tea balls you use to make a cup of tea they cost like a bu k a piece on amazon so I can put about a walnut size hunk of bait dough in 1 connect it with a diamond snap to my short arm on my spreader bar or above my weight on a slip rig. The "dough" will put out a great scent trail over a sustained amount of time giving the big ones a chance to come in. The tea ball allows plenty of milking of the dough since its all screen. Great video thank you. Subscribing.

John, I talked to you on the dock last week. As I said your Video is very clear and easy to follow. I tied several of the squid riggs you showed me how to tie. These squid riggs out fished any other thing we used fishing for halibut during our stay at Coffman Bay. Thanks for sharing.

Nice! Love seeing how different guys do their halibut rigs. How you bend your hooks and crimp that bottom one for the dual rig is really interesting. On the double hook rigs are you running herring for bait? Have you tried the bigger gibbs skirts? I haven't ran the ones you are using there but will try.
@thealaskansavage5897
@thealaskansavage5897 Жыл бұрын
I bend the hooks with a pair of pliers on the boat. But try to get a box done at home using my vice. Then take the box to the boat. Yes I’ve tried the bigger skirts but found better luck with the one I was using. But not saying they don’t catch fish. There’s two reasons I like to crimp the back hook on the double hook rig is. 1- it’s easier 2- the hook swings freely and has better hook up ratio. Tying that hook on 200-300 # line stiffens it up to much. It still catches but I like the crimp better

Upgrade to flurocarbon rigs and extend their durability time about x5 if not more. I know it costs more but..
@thealaskansavage5897
@thealaskansavage5897 Жыл бұрын
I found that yes fluorocarbon is stronger but doesn’t take abrasion and weakens faster with the violent head shakes and a mouth full of halibut teeth. This is why I stick with quality mono.
@MrKveite1
@MrKveite1 Жыл бұрын
@@thealaskansavage5897 well tbh sir the whole point of fluro is that it has much higher abrasion than mono and it's weaker pr diameter and not stronger than mono. I dont know wich fluro you have tested but you definately hit a bad brand or by some way bad fabrication sir.
@thealaskansavage5897
@thealaskansavage5897 Жыл бұрын
@@MrKveite1 I’ve tested two fluorocarbon brands out and that is my findings. But with that said I haven’t tried them all. Halibut aren’t leader shy. You could use rope for Halibut. I use fluorocarbon on all my warm salt water fishing trips. Targeting tuna , and bill fish and Rooster fish just name a few. Thank you for your comments
