About Tyler Childers:
Nestled in the foothills of the Appalachian Mountains in Kentucky is a little town called, Paintsville, where the economy is dependent on the dying coal industry and a tradition of music thrives with the US 23 Country Music Highway Museum and Butcher Hollow. Carrying on the music tradition is native son and current Lexington, Kentucky resident, Tyler Childers.
Paintsville is located in the Big Sandy River Valley of Johnson County in Eastern Kentucky made famous for its lawlessness, religion, and booze, and a song about a horse thief, a rambling man, and an attempt to gain some good ol’ Appalachian self-justice is what “William Hill” is all about. Following his “Papaw” around to the Kentucky social institutions - church events and barber shops to name a few- as well as a lot of coon hunting with his dad, Tyler has heard a tale or two about the misadventures of a few good ol’ boys and he gives his own spin of these accounts behind a whisky-soaked voice well beyond his young age.

I remember the first time I came across these songs, I was high as a kite on opiates, any kind I could get my hands on whether it was H or oxy or whatever. I heard this song and that line….”keep your nose on the grindstone and outta the pills”…..and I bawled. I wanted out of that addiction so bad but I was in so deep. Within a week of listening to that song every day….I checked myself into detox and rehab. It was the absolute worst two weeks of my life. I was at risk of having a stroke or a heart attack because it was so bad. Had to be medically supervised around the clock. BP of 180/130. I don’t know how I didn’t die. But I came out of that detox…..and I haven’t looked back since. I just got 2 years clean and sober this past July. And honestly…thank you Tyler. Thank you.

I think it’s really great that music can do that, I myself just smoke a little pot, but to hear that man makes me extremely happy for you I have family that are bad off addicted to meth and opiates, I listen to it to remind me that I can’t allow myself to get that way, so I just keep my nose on the grindstone and stay working so I don’t.

I understand the importance of what music that speaks to us has. It’s been vital for me as well but, it was you that climbed up from the depths of hell on earth. Your strength and will that has produced achievements. Music, his music, as well as many other sources provided the little bit need to continue with what we know is right.

Stay on that path my fellow addict ! I have fallen so many times I can’t even remember , but I’ve been fortunate enough to be given the opportunity to pull myself out of the gates of hell back into the real world where I have a life beyond my wildest dreams today ! And it has always been music that I could relate to that pulled out of of my darkest days . You have what it takes my friend just keep your nose to the grind stone !

Make sure you check out colter wall. And if you’re really into good country western (real country not that Blake Shelton crap) check out their inspiration Marty Robbins - gun slinger ballads and trail songs…specifically big iron and El Paso. I was just like you at one time. I thought of country as that modern crap but then I found that I actually love real country.

Pills had their hooks in me too. I still struggle with pain. My body is in bad shape. Metal all up and down my spine. I'm 34, with an elderly grandfather and a 6 year old son and I have to just push through it. The bigger picture is now more apparent to me than anything. I'll keep this song handy, for inspiration. Not really what good il' Appalachia is all about tbh, but great music nonetheless. I mean, Celtic music has more in common with rap, what with flyting being the true origin of somewhat insulting lyrics put to verse, not to mention the prevalence of classic Celtic rhythms echoed in today's popular rap music.

I love his songs and his voice. I was borned in Pikeville KY. My husband my dad and all my relatives were coal miners. I can't relate to all his songs. Best singer I've heard in a long time. Keep on singing, Tyler you make me feel like I'm home. Good luck and God bless.

The best music is music played without massive speakers and amplifiers i would love to sit in this small theater and listen to his music just like this no crazy equipment just a guitar and a small boombox speaker for his plugged in microphone
