Tyler Perry Movie Formula: - Unhappy Black woman as main character - Abusive Medium or Darkskin husband - Female best friend with an attitude - Lightskin man as the new “good man” - Old Black woman to give advice - Bad hair - A sweaty Church with people fanning themselves - Written, directed, produced (and literally everything else) by Tyler Perry

I agree, cause it seems like that was the root of his issues-he was stuck. He got out of that family to be with her, but they wouldn't let him be so he got sucked back into tat nastiness that was his family. And they couldn't stand her cuz she was trying to make him better, but that yoke was on his neck man

@dawnwalton1099

So you’re one of the ones that enjoys seeing a troubled abusive, miserable, angry marriage being tolerated and illustrated to call it entertaining?? Thats really scary. And like the movie most people know when their family members and friends are in a domestic violence situation. It’s generally hard to keep such a thing a secret even if the person involved thinks that they are keeping it a secret, it’s not. But don’t worry Tyler Perry’s got more. If fact that’s all the storytelling he does

I enjoyed the movie. Only complaint is it seemed like he was writing for two different genres and didn’t do the character/plot development to support either genre. At first I thought it was a Sweet Home Alabama/ Hope Floats divorcee finds love and themselves by going back home post divorce then it switched to Enough. I wasn’t lost but there wasn’t enough development for either genre.

He should pay them well . He pays well known actors and actresses to lure in the audience. That’s what Tyler Perry is counting on . Him producing trash knowing that people will say it’s Tyler Perry so I’m still gonna watch it. He’ll never advance, develop and grow because people settle for mediocre and call it supporting him when it’s only hindering him. When no one came to Tyler Perry’s plays in the beginning, Tyler Perry dug deep in himself to diligently work to produce quality work to present to the public but that was when he was trying to break into the industry . Now 20+ years later and we are still watching women who are abused miserable, settlers that stay with their abusive, narcissistic man until someone comes to rescue them. How many times is he going show us only the dark ugliness of life when life especially for black men and women is so much more.

Love your reviews. And I loved this movie with its many twist and turns. Megan Good finally deserves awards for her amazing performance. Tyler Perry redeemed himself after the disaster of Mea Copa and I feel this film is right up there with his first hit, Diary of A Mad Black Woman. My only complaint was the ending where I feel he should have expanded on the storyline that Dallas confessed that his evil mom encouraged him to kill his own father. And when the mom showed up at the hospital at the end, Megan’s character could have revealed it to the police and had the evil bitch March off to jail. I also wish Perry would have made up with Monique and cast her in the role of the gangsta mom. Besides those two observations that is my only complaint.

I enjoyed your review. I agree with you totally with the first scene. The first scene was relatable because some times pastors are not so nice at funeral s especially when the person didn't live a righteous life. I also think after the funeral it gets worse through the movie and some scenes make no since at all. Why bring up he may have cheated / that was not necessary. The mama at the grocery store/ your so right nobody in the south is going to watch an older lady get grabbed and not say anything. The daddy has military skills so you would think he would have shot at least one brother. I like Tyler but wish he would do better.

I didn’t like the title either… Ava explained she wanted to be in the black with the divorce from Dallas but somehow he felt like he was still owed something when he asked for the divorce…. The title would make sense if he catered to her and paid for her education but Dallas was a country bumpkin fool I don’t see anything in common with the two not even in the beginning.

Had a slow weekend..so I watched, re-watched, and watched the movie again (honestly..nothing else of interest was on). You can tell Tyler practically wrote every line. You seen tidbits of every other TP movie. In my opinion, the over acting, under acting, predictability...all of it TRASH - CCOORRNNAAYYY. I wish TP would bring back writers. In my opinion, since he started writing all of his movies, you can see the similarities it all of them.

I enjoyed the movie for what it is: B-level drama with a weak story and plot but some good acting in parts. I contend that Tyler Perry allowed the production designer and director of cinematography to do their jobs because there were several scenes that were staged well and shot with a photographer's eye. The acting was good for the most part. The mother and father characters are movie veterans and chewed up every moment of their screen time. The grocery store confrontation between Dallas and his mother-in-law in the grocery store was visceral and unnerving. Dallas' "Precious" mama was a hot mess as a character and the actress who portrayed her really went there and back to make her memorable if not credible. I thought I was going to really dislike this like I did the recent Tyler Perry creative travesty, "Mea Culpa", but I enjoyed it far more than I have a Tyler Perry project in many years. I give it a solid B. The acting was steady, earnest and believable. The cinematography was better than most of his other movies. The production sets and sites looked well-staged. The writing and plot lacked authenticity at points, but the outrageous, over-the-top funeral scene at the beginning left a memorable cinematic impression.
