Idk why everyone hates these things. I’ve had 2, one with the v6 and one with the hemi. Never had any issues with either. The v6 had 180k miles on it, regular maintenance. The hemi had 220k and yes, original lifters. Loved them both. Looking for a third as we speak. Unfortunately totaled the v6, and the hemi was flooded in a hurricane.

If they are in good shape and correctly maintained they will be a great Jeep! I really enjoyed daily driving it!

Just hit 180k in my 2005. I've done a mix of On and Off road with mine and I've loved every mile! Get a well kept one with 4Lo and it's a nice mix of comfort and capability with the right mods!

My first vehicle out of high school was a 2005 Grand Cherokee 4.7 V8. Had every bell and whistle that would come on a Laredo - even the factory navigation radio! It was a really fun car but it did have quite a lot of problems. All in all, the electrical issues were not too bad considering it had 200k miles. But I still hated them. Just weird electrical gremlins with no explanation: gauges going crazy while driving down the road, transmission fluid temperature sensor failing to report to the PCM and causing the vehicle to go into limp mode (restart the car and issue would go away), service electric brake system message, etc. Like you said, module communication problems. I also really despised the rain water leaks on the interior. Counting mine, we have had three WKs in our family, and ALL of them leaked rainwater. one leaked it right through the body of the car in the front right footwell area. Had to caulk a body seam - so stupid. After spending hours of investigation, I finally figured out that my carpet was getting soaked due to the splash shields in the door, of all the crazy things. They actually route water down through the door and if the splash shield sealant isn't in good shape, it just drips water right into the floor of the car. So silly. I also had a windshield seal leak that was fixed by using clear sealant at the top. However, that Jeep was fun when it wasn't having problems. It had good power, had a nice Magnaflow exhaust and was blacked out, with the midnight blue paint color. Enjoyed that thing for 30,000 miles but got tired of the electrical gremlins. Bought a 4.7 Limited WJ with blown head gaskets for a few hundred bucks, fixed it up last summer and am now daily driving it. So prefer a WJ to a WK! I will say, though, that the 5.7 HEMI in my Dad's WK is a TON of fun to drive. Those things are stupid fast just bone stock; 375 Lb-Ft of torque will launch you!

Looks great so far. Does the sunroof work and/or leak?

05 4.7 going strong. Exhaust bolts, blend door actuator and illumination of the climate control panel only issues. Been a fantastic vehicle. Tows very well, rides really well, off-roads well, does nothing great and everything well, not the worst in my opinion at all.

I've had XJs, ZJs and a pile of YJs. I test drove a WK and brought it back to the seller without an offer.

Hey Tyler, can you answer a question for me? I’ve got an ’04 WJ that I’ve lifted 2 inches with spacers and Bilstein 5100 shocks, and I’ve just towed a rented travel trailer a few hundred miles. It was quite bouncy and the 20 ft trailer was pushing the WJ around a bit. Is that because of the lift? If I got 2” lifted springs and replaced them with oem for towing, would that make a difference to towing? Interested in your views since you lifted all 12 WJs!

I Have a 2005 Grand Cherokee with the quadra drive and Hemi engine. It has a 3-inch lift. Love driving it. And this beast has zero RUST! Looks brand new underneath. The sunroof was great until it the rear glass wouldn't slip up into place. oh well. Thats what black silicone is for.

Any way to adjust the tire size to keep the Speedo accurate on wj’s? I’ve yet to find a video on how to adjust it if possible

We owned an ‘05 Laredo with the 4.7 and QD. Never off-roaded it, stock height, wheels & tires and averaged 13.5 mpg. Interior was leather but felt so spartan and the seats were not as comfortable as a WJ. Had to replace the starter, oh man, that was not fun! Went back to WJ for overall better experience. Good video Tyler.

As always, it's great to watch your videos. I have a few suggestions for the WK. One idea is to showcase using the passenger front seat bottom on the driver's side, with the right trim. This could make for an interesting video. Additionally, you already know that a 3.7L engine is essentially a 4.7L engine with two fewer cylinders. It would be beneficial to cover topics such as changing the spark plugs, inspecting the head cover gaskets, and checking the lifters and rockers. I understand that these topics have been addressed before, but your unique explanation and demonstration would be valuable. Lastly, it would have been nice to see your new Jeep in the background of the video.

Were they not the same as a Nitro ?. I had a 09 Nitro SXT 3.7 V6 here in the UK and it was ok to be fair. Apart from cheapo plastics it was pretty good. Infinity sound was killer too. MPG sucked for sure but they were kicking them out for 120 a month over here so it was a no brainer. Almost free.

The wk got to share crap with the ML of the same generation. Including Mercedes trans! I owned a similar vintage Mercedes. Loved it to bits!

I like the exterior of WKs I cannot stand the interior. Decided to stick to my 02 wj over an 07 wk SRT because of it

Just a comment about the 3.7 V6 as i had one for 4 years in the UK. It was only 204bhp ?, which was kinda laughable when we have 1.6 4cyl engines with that power back in 2009. I got some kinda of Piggyback ECU tuning device from the US and with our 98 Octane (US 93) that took it up to 221bhp on the dyno. Traction control off, Get on it out of a junction and it would light up the rear tyres. Kinda fun.
