Sadly those cables are never extremely strong, as long as they have all the other characteristics in common. To make that cable strong, you would have to put something in that makes it either more rigid, thicker or both. The amazon basics cable did most of the "bang for your buck" stuff right. Can't really ask for more.

@monhi64
@monhi64 Жыл бұрын
Idk that feels fair to me. I mean no one’s expecting them to replace an infinite number of cables right? I thought that was fairly standard to not get a second lifetime warranty on a product replaced for free. I have even worse news for you though, you’re probably assuming when a manufacturer says lifetime warranty it means the warranty doesn’t expire due to time. But it does, lifetime warranty means the “life” of the product not yourself. So a lifetime warranty could be just 6 months if they define the product’s expected life as 6 months. It’s deceptive as hell, they do it intentionally just say the time period outright if it expires

10:45 the metal mesh removes electromagnetic interference from other cables nearby, or really anything else. they usually connect the metal bodies of the plugs on both ends together (which are usually grounded). The idea is that any EMI that hits the cable will be picked up by the shielding and then grounded out through the plug's ground. The USB standard requires shielded cabling, so you should always find it. some other types of cables, like an ethernet cable, use twisted pairs and don't need shielding

The reason the Amazon cable snapped clean is that the yellow fibers inside the cable are there to add strength and do not stretch before breaking, when they fail the tension on the cable is sufficient to snap the rest of the cable components.

Did a double-check: Drano’s main active ingredient is lye. Lye breaks down and corrodes metal and organics, but plastics are inert as long as the lye doesn’t get too hot (it’s a pretty reactive substance). The gold-plated bits of cable are fine, but anything with aluminum or stainless steel like maybe the cable head would be a problem; that’s probably where the Drano would attack. The nylon braid (and the plastic wire cover and pretty much anything plastic) would still be intact.

The entire load is still being met at one single point on each side of the scale without any bypass. So it doesn’t matter. The only thing that doubling up is doing is increasing the total strength of the cable. It will not offset the total load being pulled, it doesn’t make the truck lighter.

I used to work in wire manufacture for a few years. Amazon basics wire was easily a more quality cable. Not only because of the wire "mesh" (referred to as a braid in the industry) which is used for both interference and strength purposes. Also cloth material you were talking about is aramid Kevlar fibers which are used for strength and flexibility purposes for the cable. Interesting that the titan cable and all its hype was proven to be garbage vs the Amazon basics 🤔

I ordered four of these a few months ago. I'm not sure what you received but, they certainly don't feel the same as other cheap ones. The ones I got are much harder/stiffer, and the braiding doesn't take damage from rubbing rough surfaces like a lot of cheap braided cables. There does seem to be a difference in feel between the different types though. I got one USB-C, two micro USB, and one Lightning cable. The three types have a mildly different look and feel to the braided outside. The connectors are also much, much more secure than any other cable I've had. Even more so than a new device with its factory cable. Never had a Titan cable come loose from the cord being pulled or the device being dropped. And the connector doesn't bend like most others when dropped. They've also survived a housecat determined to chew on anything that she thinks she hasn't chewed before. You wouldn't even see where it was chewed, even if you knew exactly where. The only problem I've had is the lights on them. They're so insanely bright that it's like have an emergency glowstick on your side table at night. And they don't turn off when there's nothing connected to them. Then again, I didn't go into the purchase believing that they're quite strong enough for half the claims, just that they'll be much better than the average cable, which they have been in my experience.

the "metal mesh" (metallic braid shield) is there to shield the wire from outside interference (power frequency and radio frequency interference), "raw wire" is called a drain wire, it's for grounding purposes and the "cloth" (fabric) is there to protect the wires from rubbing against the metal shielding.

In the amazon cable, the component are a woven mesh around the outside to protect the components, rubber to protect as well, the wire mesh is likely for interference, as is the foil, and the string in the middle is a nylon strand, they usually use that for easier winding of the wires in manufacturing. The other cables have some of those components but not all, which seems cheap. For context, I'm an electrical engineering student.

I can just about guarantee that the yellow fibrous material is Kevlar or a similar aramid. I used to see it all the time in fiber optic cables. It’s used to prevent the cable from stretching, fiber optics are very susceptible to breaking under very little tension. The copper in these would be less prone to breaking, but I suspect that if a wire stretched, it could develop hot spots at higher wattages some modern devices use.

The amazon cable is what we refer to as shielded cable and the shielding is actually more than I expected. the metal braid is akin to the chinese finger trap, mening if you pull it it tightens, but if you push it towards the other end it loosens off and scrunches up. The foil is another part of the shielding but also to protect the cables from damage. You would use the braided shield as an earth like cable and is the main interference protection. This style of shielding is mostly used were even slight interference can cause the equipment to go nuts.

I personally caved a few months ago and bought the Titan charger. It has lasted longer than any charger I’ve ever bought which is probably because the 90 degree angle of the charging head keeps me from putting continuous pressure on the cord itself. As for the faster charging I only attribute that to my charging block not the cord. Not surprised it’s weak as hell but at least it’s gonna last me a while.

The yellow fiber material in the Amazon cord is Kevlar. Used for strength.
@MurderousMindstate
@MurderousMindstate 2 жыл бұрын
It will add strength but not really. It would break at the ends before breaking in the middle for sure. However, that is NOT the purpose of the string. When the outer insulation is being cooked onto the wires they line up several large spools of wire and a spool of string. they pull them all into a twisting device the preps the cable for insulation process. the string is connected to the new reel that will now carry the combination of all colored wires and the string. The next process they line the new reel into a machine that feeds the rubber. The string is fed through the machine and connected to its final reel. Now the reel pulls the string instead of stressing any of the several wires that make up the cable. The reel is set to wind at a slow speed as the wire is fed through a rubber coating that coats the finalized cable (and also feeds it through the outer braiding where applicable). Its pulled through several tubs of water that cools the insulated coating before being wound onto the final reel. Long story short the string is used to pull the cable during processing so as to not stretch the cable itself.

The cheapo wires have 4 cables for regular USB. USB c is higher bandwidth and requires 5 cables. As goes for the Amazon cable, the mesh is for cut resistance against rubbing up against surfaces, the foil for interference and the yellow fibre should be kevlar ( it is in the high end cables) for pulling force resistance. Hence why it performed better. *Flies away*

I haven't watched the video all the way, but I have used an Anchor charger to pull a Chevy 1500 up my drive way and it still worked it was maybe 50-60 feet but 2 years later I'm using the same charger.

have you seen the magnet cables, there a small bit you put into the phone and the magnet will connect to it by itself. It can also come with a swivel end attached to the magnet end.

There is a company that makes phone chargers and they claim that you can cut the charger and then reattach the head of it onto the piece you cut and it will still work, I think that would be an interesting video to watch

Outer jacket is the rubber. Then the braiding which is what will help stop interference and so will the shielding which is the foil. The ends are called fittings

you should try the titanokobspider cable. Could be good in your experiments. Its made with a gold core to conduct electricity, a plutonium-aluminium foil to protect it from parasit, an electonV-Ti confirmation cable to avoid virus backup, and for resistance and solidity titanium-SW (Spider Web) coating. This cable can transmit at 2 billions miles and can handle 600 tons.

You should do a test on different phones with different size cords because shorter cords are supposed to charge faster but you should test that on different phones and different brand chargers

Coincidentally i bought that same cable from titan about 6-7 weeks ago....about 5 days later it broke...i contacted them and to beat fair they sent me a replacement right away. So far....no problems at all but as its a new cable i dont really expect to there to be yet.
