As a parent of a Type 1 diabetic son who is 37 yrs post diagnosis, he was 10 when diagnosed, I commend you for sharing your family’s experience. Insulin pumps weren’t around when our son was diagnosed. We can only live one day at a time, things will fall into place, and begin to seem normal. Our son has a very fulfilling career and family. Thanking the Lord for His care and guidance over our family. Blessings to your family❤️

Throwing up is also a sign of diabetes. I recently was diagnosed with type 2 diabetes over the summer and I also urinated a lot, losing weight, throwing up, etc. I'm glad that you guys caught your son's diabetes when you did. That stuff is really scary.

I’m not a medical professional but I would say technically the vomiting is a sign of DKA, which is high amounts of ketones in the blood due to not enough insulin. Basically undiagnosed diabetes. I hope you’re feeling better and getting the care you deserve!

We still have so much to learn but we are back to cooking home cooked meals and letting our kid (and the rest of us) breathe and live life a little bit. I’m still so heartbroken over the diagnosis though, and feel a lot of resentment honestly. But thank you for your kindness, it does help. ❤️

@@realsimplemama the heartbreak is the hardest. BUT once you find family and friends who won’t treat your child like a burden or a liability and will do whatever you need to help, that’s when you can stop crying. Kinda 😉

Same as us. Our daughter was diagnosed in December 2021 aged 4. She’s 6 now and I’d say it’s getting easier, still hard work though! Hope you’re all getting on well 👍🏻

Dear Sarah, You did a Wonderful Job explaining what happened to your kiddo & you two as parents. Sharing the subtle signs and symptoms (in this video) you noticed I'm sure will give other mama's n papa's the heads up to observe their kiddos & get to help soon, like you did. Yes, You Do have a Wonderful pediatrician. You're correct the endocrinologist n dietitian are your new best friends. They will help you find a new normal to be able to continue on with life as a family without too much interruption. You're right this whole process you went through is scary, especially not being a medical professional, but everything you described is what I would say would be a normal experience in the hospital. Unfortunately someone's always in the room every two hours waking you up, but I'm glad for that, because a lot of things can happen in 2 hours, so that's actually a Fortunate thing that your nurses weren't so busy that they couldn't come in and check every two hours if not sooner. I'm Really Glad they were able to follow your kiddo so closely. That's truly a Blessing. When you get to the point where you're comfortable with everything, maybe ask your endocrinologist whether or not an Insulin Pump would be an option for your son? It will cut down on the # of finger sticks and the # of insulin sticks and make his life so much less traumatic with all the needle sticks. That's down the road a piece, because you have to be able to manage this disease without it, but keep it in the back of your mind. I'll be praying for you and your whole family and little sister because she's going to notice a change too and maybe not understand everything. She's just going to need some extra love and hugs too. God's Blessings to You All 🙏🙏🙏🙏

Thank you so much. What a sweet note. ❤️ We are doing ok and getting much more consistent numbers overall. And our son now has a CGM so a lot less finger pokes - we’re looking into pumps too but I have a feeling that’s a ways down the line. ❤️

Hi Sarah, I am sorry to hear about your son's diagnosis. I thought you were just like myself ,up to your eyeballs homeschooling. Thank goodness Sarah you are a stay at home mum inorder to look after your son & you got him to the ER when you did. I hope all goes well with "kido" and hope you are ok too Sarah. Not an easy thing to deal with. There is a lovely lady called Gemma, she goes by the moniker of Pampered wolf here on KZfaq. Her son,Seth, has severe diabetes ....to the extent she has to waken him during the night to get him to eat sometimes 2&3 times a night . She is a fountain of knowledge , and has helped mums whose children have just been diagnosed. I wish you and all your family well in dealing with this shock. "Kido" is very lucky to have a mum like you xx

@@realsimplemama Yes do Sarah. She is a beauty youtuber and I've gotten to know her. On her channel she is open about some of the challenges they face with Seth, but Sarah despite his diabetes being so serious, he plays in a football team, does all his school sports... Think he's around 9. She is also on Instagram, again under the name of Pampered Wolf. xx

Oh I’m sorry. Learn together and start small - I would pick a few meals and eat those on repeat for a week or so, so you can practice taking blood sugar and giving insulin. Remember that the lows are more dangerous than the highs. Pick your battles and continue to love on each other. ❤️ remember I’m not a doctor but I hope that helped a bit!

Hello - yes it’s a symptom of DKA - basically your blood starts to turn to acid because it’s full of sugar particles that your body can’t process.
