There has been a lot of questions regarding the dampening on the RS-R Coilovers since the installation on my Honda Civic Type R. In this vlog I try to answer your questions visually. It is hard to described so I hope the video helps.
Coilovers Dampening Adjustments
36 Way
Always adjust dampening starting from full hard (clockwise) and counting backwards (counter clockwise)
Not recommended to leave dampening levels at full hard or full soft.
Recommended Max Hard
- 2 clicks back from full hard
Recommended Max Soft
- 34 clicks back from full hard

Thanks for putting this video together! Would you say putting the RS-R in the middle setting and adjusting the modes from there would be softer or harder than the factory FL5 suspension?

Matt I find just a little softer than factory. This is the setting I have on my setup at the moment. Because of my ride height im at it can be a bit bumpy.

I’m Canadian 🍁 eh 😜 med DD hehe where in Ontario are you from…you can probably use the COW method Cup of Water 😅😅😅 your gopro by itself didn’t really translate the difference So for next time. That’s what I would’ve done 😅😅😅 ( compared it to the Integra type S dampener )

I dont get the +R thing, its for the track, and on the track its perfect. Theres still aome body roll on track so die hards may say it needs more, but for me its perfect

You mean +R on the stock suspension? It is far from perfect.

Did you notice any noise after installation ? I have the same set up on my FK7 and when i drive over the pothole i can hear some noise. I hear that only in lower speed . I checked my preload , double checked endlinks , all the bolts but noise seems to be still there. Maybe this is how they are supposed to be but i came from HKS hipermax and i did not have this problem. Thank you in advance

The only noise is had was on my first drive. Most likely due to the suspension just settling in and in its initial break-in period. I don't have any noises now.

Overall, did you find the coils to remove the bounciness of the stock dampers? I don’t mind a taut or harsh ride but the bouncing (especially in +R) feels so unrefined in stock form.

Initially I noticed it because I didn't have the dampening dialed in. Once I got the opportunity to dial it in properly it was day and night especially on the freeways and in the corners.

whats the justification for RSR vs HKS/Ohlins/KW? Did you mostly want to retain the adjustable dampening?

hi thanks for the video, so if I just want to be more comfortable, is this product a good choice for me? I dont see other products with adaptive damping system so RSR might ne the only choice for me. I am driving FK8 btw.

RS-R I believe is the only coilovers on the market right now that retains the factory dampening system. You can adjust them to softer than stock.

I'm looking at pickig up a set of active Best-i coilovers and i keep reading that the springs are too soft. I have a Lexus RC 350 but it will be street car so i dont want it rough since it is my daily. Would you recommed i drive very spirited on the road?

That is a good question. I would recommend contacting RS-R Canada for fitment.

Hi. Did you reverse the top hats on the RSR for negative camber? also did you do anything else for the camber settings at the front. It seems there no rubbing on your set up at all!

No I didn't reverse the top hat. I just set the spring preload then the ride height to where I like the look. There is no rubbing. Now that they are broken in I'm adjusting the dampening.

Awesome man thanks for the info. I am running pretty much the exact set up and will be installing soon. Was wondering if I needed to run the camber at the tophats. Would you go lower? Also are you running any sort of camber arms in the rear? @@phothrottle

I originally had it lower and it still had clearance. Looks wise it was flush. I will add be adding more suspension components soon. Just waiting for certain jdm companies to release them.
