Dear Sifu, Every time I watch your videos with my family, I have to translate to Cantonese and Vietnamese for them. My family has been inspired by your story and so on. Therefore, they are always asking me to translate even though I am really busy. :) Would you mind adding Chinese subtitle in your future videos? I think it would be helpful to the Chinese especially to those who is not really good at English but really want to learn from you. Your huge fan.

Great video Dan, I was just 6 days in Hong Kong, interesting city and I had great experiences there.I was always fascinated by The Chinese and the 2 different languages, Cantonese and Mandarin, I am very keen to pick up a few phrases. I worked with Chinese too, learned a couple of words, some swear words I don't use, LOL. Thank you for sharing, great video.

Im a Caucasian learning Mandarin for a few years now. Definitely making progress as I study daily. It feels good to be reassured it is worth learning in a business sense. But it also helps that I enjoy listening to it even while I am sleeping.

Very interesting video. We lived in Temple City, CA for a few years and the Chinese there are always so nice to us. Our dentist is Chinese. He is the best. I don't know much about the culture. I love the idea of learning some Mandarin. You mentioned in some of the replies below to Google search the top Mandarin language learning software. Do you have one you recommend?

HI Dan. thank you for your efforts and your informative videos. My Wife is Thai and I'm American. I have a difficulty listening to the tones lick in the Chinese language. How would someone who grew up with lazy ears developed the skills to listen to tone and identify them as different meanings and words?

My son is learning mandarin language as well as the culture for his vocation. I tried to learn a little but it's very complex and my resource is not so good maybe. I try to speak Mandarin to local restaurant owners and they look at me like "wha?!!!" I confirmed they speak Mandarin. I need more personal lesson like my son. Maybe someday he can teach me when he is home.

Virtue-Signalling Man, thank you for the kind suggestion, I truly appreciate it! I have been using the Memrise app but I find that sometimes I'm getting my inflections wrong. I get very nervous to speak, but the people I talk to are very patient with me. In truth I don't have a great deal of time to devote to this but I am looking forward to when I will. It would be wonderful to be able to speak to my son in Mandarin! I bet he will aspire to learn Cantonese as well. When my son was little we loved watching Chinese films together. We never watched them in dubbed form because you lose so much that way! I remember my son would have a notebook and pencil to make notes so he could try to learn the language! Now that he is almost finished with his Mandarin language course, he watches the movies and sees the discrepancies in the translation! Our love for learning other cultures has always been a way for us to bond.

Everytime I go to a chinese grocery store, I feel like they're planning to take over the world or something because I don't understand a single word of what they're saying to each other and they also talk too fast.

Totally Agreed (and in the same boat) Josh. There's something about Asiatic customs (particularly those found in chinese culture) that has a sense of honour about it that is severely lacking in western society. Particularly when focusing on familial structure, respect i.e "face", and personal accountability.

Sifu, I only just found your channel yesterday and am already a huge fan I really appreciate your combination of education(This video and the financial education ones also) and training videos (JKD and Wing Chun). Though I am only about to grade for Blue belt (Wing Chun) this Friday I feel your videos regarding the straight blast punch and effective use of biu sau eye strike combined with the Jut Tek are going to give me an edge for my random attacker gauntlet so I just wanted to say thank you very much for that and I look forward to your next video.
