In this tutorial, we will walk through different types of fact. The nature of aggregation of facts for dimensions divides Facts into 3 groups that we can call 3 different fact types:
1. if fact can be summed up for all dimensions in then it is called Additive Fact.
2. if it can be summed up for some dimensions in table but not all then it is semi-additive fact and
3. if it cannot be summed up for any of the dimensions present in the table then it is non-additive fact.

Hello Great explanation. I have a question about Transaction ID, could you please explain? Is transaction id a dimension or fact? If it is a fact, is it under non-additive facts? I think it falls under dimension because it doesn't provide any value to measure. thank you.

I think quantity in hand cannot be semi-additive since it cannot be summed up across just products or stores as per the table in the video . AT 3:50 its mentioned that total inventory at the end of 2 days i.e 5th march and 6th march would be 50+30=80 but I think that should be 30. on 5th march ,store had 50 and on 6th march, 20 sold out and 30 are remaining. So the store never had 80 products. Please correct me If my understanding is wrong :).

Very good question. You are right. It does not make sense to add quantity in hand for a product. But for date, adding up that measure gives an average of inventory. (Sum of quantity in hand)/Days In this example, 5(0+30)/2 = 40 per day. Since quantity in hand is additive across some dimensions but not all, we can call it as semi-additive fact.

@@aroundBI Why it does not make sense to add quantity in hand for a product. It is always makes sense to know what is the quantity of product in hand to meet the customer demands. Is not it?

if in the next day 20 quantity was sold from remaining quantity in hand (i.e, 50) then the current remaining quality is 30 so how come total inventory at the end of 2 days should be sum of two(80)???

What if we take average of sales tax.. since it will be same across any dimension.. ex. Average sales tax for Miami - 5+5+5+5+5/5 = 5.. so will this make sales tax as semi additive if we consider for this example ??
