Some things not covered by Sahil: 1. Thesis based programs have guaranteed scholarships/funding. Basically you won't have to pay for tuition fees. 2. TA/RA etc are generally only given to thesis based students. 3. Most scholarship awards need a research proposal. 4. Most research projects are related to an industry partner. 5. In general research is highly regarded in Canada. If you don't have job experience then in my opinion thesis based is better than course based program for you.
