Thank you. But I have one disagreement with your last comment that power requirement for centrifugal pump depends mainly on flow rate, than the head. Pls clarify if my understanding is wrong. If we look at BHP vs Q curve on the same graph as H vs Q curve, the BHP vs Q curve has small slope with Q axis. This indicates that the BHP is more sensitive to the head than the flow rate and hence BHP should depend mainly on head developed by the pump. Thanks .

Dear sir, I don't get one point why do we need a pump always for pumping corrosion inhibitor in vacuum coloums as there's already a negetive pressure inside the coloumn. Is it that the pressure inside is not appreciable to suck that liquid or is it there is some sprinkler facility inside column to diminish corrosion?
@SandeepAcademy9
@SandeepAcademy9 2 жыл бұрын
Pump is required to lift corrosion inhibitor from ground floor to the top of column. Fluid flow from high energy to low energy. Though pressure of VDU column is low (Statis pressure low) But potential energy of that point is high due to height. So pump required.

Dear Sandeep, Centrifugal Pumps do not suck! The NPSH available pushes the liquid into the eye of the impeller. By the way, good video once again!
@SandeepAcademy9
@SandeepAcademy9 2 жыл бұрын
NPSH is more of a mathematical concept which tells about how far your pump is from cavitation. If you are far enough then NPSH has nothing to do with flow. You may say that head available may push the liquid into eye of pump. That is again a different way of explaining a same phenomenon. After all at suction eye there is very low pressure which is generated due to centrifugal action of pump. If pump could not push out the liquid available at impeller, it won't be able to suck liquid even if there is head available.
@safsyd02
@safsyd02 2 жыл бұрын
@@SandeepAcademy9 That is correct! NPSH available is not the correct word as I had mentioned before but actually it is the head that pushes the liquid. And yes low pressure zone is created because the pump pushes the liquid out which is turn is replenished by the head available at the eye of the impeller. Even in self priming pumps, eventually the net head pushes the fluid into the eye of the pump after the low pressure zone is created. Suppose the pump is taking its suction from a vessel which is at a very low pressure, which is less than the pressure created at the eye of the impeller. In such a situation, the pump will not work. If it could suck, it will suck irrespective of the pressure at the suction vessel. I had read somewhere that it is wrong to say that centrifugal pumps suck.
@SandeepAcademy9
@SandeepAcademy9 2 жыл бұрын
We are describing same phenomena in two different way. Let's not delve into terminology. If pump is taking suction from a well. Then its low pressure at suction eye is available to suck liquid. There is no head available to push....rather pump has to suck against gravity. Where is net head in self priming pump ? (There is NPSH). There is liquid below from the level of pump. In our refinery case where vessel is above the pump in that case liquid push into pump due to head and that will take place even if pump is not running.
@meruraghavani4616
@meruraghavani4616 2 жыл бұрын
I think it's wrong to say that centrifugal pump sucks liquid when vessel liquid level is below Centerline of the pump and Suction nozzle is above that level, But as Sandeep is talking about pump sucks liquid at eye of impeller by creating low pressure it is fine.

Sir, I have one doubt that what happens in the free delivery condition of centrifugal pump such that no head is generated? I mean its clear from Euler Turbomachinary Equation that such a value of flowrate exists when H will be zero, and its evident from pump curves as well which are generated from experimenting. Sir my doubt is that what is the physical significance, or what is actually happening at that time such that H generated becomes zero? The impellers are rotating and providing kinetic energy to the moving fluid, but still no head is generated???
@SandeepAcademy9
@SandeepAcademy9 2 жыл бұрын
Whatever energy provided by impeller to fluid is loss due to high frictional losses. Frictional losses increase with flow rate. I have discussed it in pump performance curve video.
@abhrajitsaha7
@abhrajitsaha7 2 жыл бұрын
@@SandeepAcademy9 thanks sir, but my doubt is that even in the euler turbomachinary equation, we have such a Q value where ∆H is zero. But sir euler equation doesnt incorporate friction losses, still its ∆H is zero, sir that is my doubt that even after not accounting for friction losses, still H is decreasing linearly with Q?
@mhttwr
@mhttwr 2 жыл бұрын
There is a condition called end of curve operation where head is very low & flow is very high due which Pump will draw more power to transfer flow but unable to generate head hence there will be a pump motor trip (other wise motor will generate heat & create cavitation of the pump), hence you will never face the situation of 0 Head in pump operation.
