New Orleans typewriter collector
I traveled to Morgantown, West Virginia, for the 10th annual antique typewriter gathering hosted by Herman Price and his wife, Connie. Herman has been collecting for 25 years and has accumulated over 800 typewriters. Collectors from around the world attend this yearly event to admire his private museum.
How could one fit such a large collection under one roof? Only Herman can say. He has every foot print covered with typewriters from the ground to the ceiling. He has managed to organize and beautifully display them in a way for others to appreciate his passion. I had the honor to video this event and share my experience with everyone.
What was there to do? EVERYTHING - free food, trades, auctions, movie night, presentations, speed typing contest, typewriter repairs, book signings and of course, mingle with people that share the same passion.

Wow, just saw this. It was a great time to be there. Lots of like minded people. Herman is a great host, and thank you. Ive been to four of these.

My one regret is that I was only able to stay for five hours and had to leave right when everyone else was showing up. But I did get to meet a few nice people. Herman's home is beautiful and he's the epitome of the gracious host. Hope I can stay longer this year.

Where are these places??? I would love to visit them if in the area, or as a side trip when nearby. This video is AWESOME. I was practically salivating over some of these. :-/ 🙂 Best YT typewriter video I've ever seen. I would nominate you for an Academy award. I saw at least half a dozen I own in there. I have NONE of the very old machines, though. My oldest is the No 9 version of the last one shown..the Olly. I guess I'm going to have to pop up a Google tab now to find some of these gatherings. The plated versions were gorgeous.

There seems to be such a gulf between hobbyists and people like me. As a teenaged boy in the early 70's who could already type over 120wpm, I put myself through a decade of college production typing. My love of typewriters stretches over sixty years and I still type well over 100wpm, though I left that career after college. I'm delighted to see people still loving these machines, but where's the love for the machines I worked at and later owned? These little portables are cute but I type far too fast to make good use of them. I bicycle toured in my youth with a Hermes Baby strapped on the back. Sad how these same collectors aren't interested in the machines I used, owned and loved.

Portables are still very much desirable. I have all 5 colors of the Olympia Traveller. They’re really fun to use.

@@TypewriterCollector I had a sixties SF for years and gave it away to a teenaged girl several years ago who cherishes it. She writes her guitar lyrics and ideas on it...

Also im not sure about your oliver but my Oliver #3 has 1 problem, when I type with it the ribbon spool spins but not fast enough so the ribbon ends up ripping as I type. You have a solution to the problem?

A new ribbon is required. The old ones are made of cotton, which deteriorated over time. Look for a 7/16 in one, as Oliver’s did not use 1/2 in ribbons
