So many intangibles pagdating sa typhoon proofing our homes, aside from materials being strong and resilient and considering also the design, our elders gave us advices that are so relevant even up to this day. - hwag ka mag papatayo ng bahay sa..... Tabing ilog, tabing dagat, paanan ng bundok, tuktok ng bundok, tabi ng malaking puno, kailangan mas mababa ka kesa sa mga kapitbahay mo, mas mababa ang klebe ng bubong mo kesa sa bakod mo, alaminmo kung saan nka harap ang bahay mo, ang hangin laging galing ng east at pumipitik pabalik galing west, kelangan nka kwatro aguas ka at etc. Intangibles na dala dala ko hanggang ngayon which are still true to this day.

Kapag po ang bahay may apat na sides, lahat po ng bubong naka klebe po sa lahat ng sides nya para po kapag bumagyo dadaplis lang ang hangin, hindi po makukuha ng bubong na nka tayo ang buong pwersa ng hangin. Yun apat po na sides ng bubong nka inclined po, meron po kasi dos saka tres aguas na bubong na design po.

Tama ka po. Napansin ko na ang karamihang bubong na hindi napinsala ay quatro aguas. Naghahanap ako nang matibay na roofing kaya tiningnan ko ang mga roofing sa before and after na mga VLOGs. Maski saan galing ang malakas na hangin ay hindi mababaklas ang quatro aguas. Nakakaawa ang mga tao. Makakabangon din tayong mga Pilipino. May awa ang Diyos. Salamat po.

Many roof framing and materials used for attaching roofing material can only withstand typhoon signal no.3 ( this is what the school taught us). This is common design in Manila which never experience signal no. 4 or 5. For signal no 4or 5 ,use roofing sheets with less joints ( longspan type) and use ,1/8 " thick wrought iron strap to attach roofing sheets to steel purlins. Use bolts instead of roofing rivets( too small to withstand signal #4 or 5). Add specially made big and thick diameter washers to go with bolts.

Yan talaga ang tamang suggestions na dapat pagkatandaan ng bawat Pinoy na gustong magpatayo ng bahay, ang kumunsulta at magpadesign/construct sa mga PROFESSIONALS (Architects & Engineers). May mga relatives at kaibigan ako na kung "kani-kanino" lang nagpa-design at nagpagawa kaya ng matapos mas malaki pa ang ginastos nila dahil sa renovations, etc. at hanggang ngayon ginagastusan pa rin nila yung mga problemang gawa ng hindi pagkunsulta sa mga Professional natin.

Concrete homes with concrete roof / roof deckmust be the best solution. Nominal windows as large trendy windows are not going to last due to flying debris. All windows must have concrete eaves or useless to open then during a normal rain. Problem is actually ventilation during non-rainy periods which is 70-75% of the year.

panahon na talaga na mag adapt ang design ng bahay sa ating nagbabago at bayolenteng panahon. tulad sa palawan na dating di naman o bihirang makaranas ng malakas na hangin..salamat po sa makabuluhang content.

I would like to start finding the professionals. I agree with all your points on the video. Interesting that I never see strong exterior shutters for windows. I prefer small and few windows! Salamat

I've always been fascinated with geodesic domes. But monolithic dome houses for typhoon prone areas are in my opinion the most viable. Can you do a video on this. Dome is one of the strongest structure.

Thanks for another interesting and educational video. Main take away for me is huwag mag DIY. Always hire professionals kahit sa probinsiya. Second, marami ang nagpapa-third floor, pero kung ikaw ang pinaka- mataas na bahay sa neighborhood, sapul ka ng typhoon at kidlat. Gawin mong design ay parang LIGHTHOUSE! Baka dapat meron ka rin lightning arrester.:)

Not just tempered but laminated glass or bomb proof glass ( James Bond has this) Windows should have additional windows shutters as added protection . You will really need to spend money on materials and avoid using improvise method. Or avoid having many windows or have small windows like 1 square feet opening. ( an advice from specswriter and const. manager)

12:00 "window shutters" has a nickname: "Storm Shutters"-and as the name(or nickname) implies, it's your windows'(or doors') protection against storms. Nauuso ngayon in other Asian countries mga decorative perforated metal sheets na ginagawa nilang storm shutters. Check it out Architect Ed, ang gaganda ng design.

Sa bikol po lalo na sa catanduanes na daanan ng bagyo.. mga bahay po slab or qng yero man dapat concrete gutter .. ang mga bintana may mga typhoon guard ready 3/4 marine plywood at kadalasan maliit or walang bintana sa south Kasi dun mas malakas ang hangin pag may bagyo..

Kaso hindi lahat afford mag hire ng architect and structural engineer sa probinsya. Reality is... usually carpentero lang po hina-hire ng karamihan na limited po ang budget.

Kung yero bubong di masyado kaataasan slope because of flying debris dapat with concrete gutter..always had a typhoon guard for windows 3/4" thk marine plywood sta.clara if possible we can't afford a tempered glass..you can also used concrete breeze blocks to lessen the impact of wind..kung di naman binabaha Kung walang budget pang slab ng bubong at least cr nyo concrete Yong bubong..Kung malapit Bahay mo s dagat,kailangan mong lumikas kaagad wag n antayin Ang storm surge...

It's freely Available online. The interior is probably someone's taste. It is a good idea to build monolithic house regardless of location. It's safer- long-term it saves money as the damage will be minimal.

Architect Ed, napanood ko sa youtube yung nangyari sa bahay ni Slater Young wherein yung relatively bago na bahay niya e talagang pinasok ng tubig. Considering na malaki ang binayad niya sa architects, at marami siyang nalalaman sa construction at masasabing professional siya, pero ganon pa rin ang nangyari sa sarili niyang bahay, wala na bang pag-asa ang mga pangkaraniwang tao para magpagawa ng bahay na typhoon proof at hindi papasukin ng tubig?

Sir yung 1st point po na ni-raise ko is yung location. Kahit average ang cost ng bahay, as long as pasok sa minimum requirements ng code at most especially MALAYO sa dagat, +100 points po iyon para sa akin na ang bahay ay maging typhoon resilient. Kasi hindi mo na iisipin ang storm surge. Ulan at hangin na lang.

Pede nmn po.. Tsek loc tlga f faraway frm water banks.. High elevation.. Den ikoincrete na lhat pati roofing.... Buhos na.. Dina yero matls.. Basta tama nga matls at gawa... Lets say sa mga nasa safegrounds far frm waters...khit sa mga ordinary tao na pede ay simple houses lng.. Khit tu floors payan.. Its time na wag na gumamit ng yero type for bubong.. Mahihiklat lng tlga yan... Or... Alternative ay steel containers...basta properly installed.. .. Yan.. Ipo2 malakas na tlaga sisira sa house natin...

I saw also yung vlog ni slater pinasok nga ng tubig pero i think the architect and engineers of his house did a great job over all, kasi kung mapapansin mo hindi nasira yung bahay considering na glass house yun kahit isang glass walang nabasag ibig sabihin well oriented yung bahay at structurally sound and maganda yung material specs, yung pagpasok ng tubig siguro yun lang hindi nagawan na solution pero over all its a good design ksi safe parin yung end user ..

Bagyohin po kasi ang province namin at gusto pa rin namin magpatayo ng bahay along the beach. Applicable lng ito para mayayaman paano ang mahihirap na sila ang karamihan na biktima di nmn nila kc kaya maghire ng architech. Dapat ung magagawang matibay ang bahai na kahit mahirap kah ay kaya parng magawa peace po.

Para sa akin kung sakali magkaroon ng budget, I am planning to bulid typhoon proof house here in Coron dahil medyo malapit kmi sa dagat. It should be more elevated of 2 meter, concrete and using SRC panels on the wall and the roof must be slab. Kung kaawan ako ng nsa taas magkaroon ng budget, kyo ang gusto ko maggawa ng design 100% yn. Iam inviting you to have your vacation here. May dive center ako d2. Just pm me. karamihan po sa mga nasalanta ng bagyo ay walang kakayahan na gumastos ng malaki, may mga magaganda rin namang mga bahay na nasira ng bagyo..... hindi malayong maulit ang nangyari lalo na at doon na talaga sila nagsimulang mamuhay mula pa ng pagkabata at siguradong tututol sila sa relocation kung meron man....... mabibigyan sila ng kaunting tulong kaya lang ay parang band-aid solution gaya ng mga ilang piraso ng mga sub-standard na materyales, latang yero, coco lumber, ilang piraso ng pako at sila na ang bahalang magbayanihan basta marunong magsukat, maglagare at magpukpok ay okay na........ hindi po kasi lahat kayang kumunsulta sa mga propesyonal lalo na at may kamahalan ang serbisyo.....😉❤✌ #GlobalPrayerForHumanity

Hindi naman po lahat kayang mag hire po ng architect or structural engineer. Lalo na po yung mga walang budget po. Usually they will just hire carpenters and will buy affordable materials (that are most of the time sub standard). As an architect po, may naisip po ba kayong way how to help yung mga areas po sa Philippines na kadalasan nadadaanan ng bagyo at wala naman pong kakayahan na mag hire ng architect or structural engineer? Can you educate them of the basics through the LGUs? Should provinces facing the pacific ocean start building houses similar to Batanes?

Yong aiming bahay sa Cebu na giba noong odette. Concrete but May crack due to earthquake during the quake happened in Bohol. At the ceilings maraming anay nang dumating ang odette yong roofing na backlash including the ceiling.. so my children are planning not only to fix the house but build new same location kasi the lot is inherited of their father from his parents, it about 1300 square meters aside maraming anay sa paligid .So we want a house anay quake and typhoon proof. Could you give us an advice. Thank you. God bless you.

Sir maganda po yung suggestion nyo para maging typhoon resilient ang bahay..pero hindi po lahat ng tao kaya msgpatayo ng ganyan bahay lalo na po sa mga lugar na dinaanan ng bagyo.meron bang ibang alternatibong design ng bahay na maaafford ng pangkaraniwang tao.

Real talk lang po: Wala pong alternative sa Typhoon Proof na bahay. Ginagastusan po talaga iyan.

Pwede bang humingi kayo ng tulong sa pamahalaan mga architects na solutionan ang mga housing projects sa mga homeless na gawing semento or something typhoon proof dahil ang bansa natin ay typhoon country. Pwede magtulungan ang mga tao na magvolunteer para makagawa ng pabahay sa mga homeless na magkaroon ng concrete or typhoon shelter man lang para sa mga kababayan nating homeless. Typhoon proof talga ung bahay na bato o ung mga nakaslab 😅 sa Catanduanes lalo sa san. Andres ang mga bahay sa coastal areas mostly bahay na bato 😁 Malaking factor din ung magkakalapit ang bahay. Tagabikol ako

That is because of the construction technology po na reinforced concrete. Whether bahay po or church or any buildings na designed na purely reinforced concrete, malakas po talaga iyon sa typhoon.

Hello po sir/architect ed, ask ko lang po na safe po ba sa typhoon or earthquake ang bahay na gawa lang po sa metal wall cladding? No CBH or poste just tubular, metal cladding. Pang low. Budget po. Instead na amakan ang gamitin po namin metal wall cladding nlang po. Thank you po sa inyong tugon

Square yung bahay ko walang eaves nakatago ang roofing. Yung window ko awning type at saka my shatterproof na film both inside & outside. Ok na kaya yun?

Ang bahay namin sa dinagat islands ay isang bahay kubo/ bamboo house A ang design nga roof, jelousy ang window at 30 m ang distance sa dagat. Sa awa ng Dios hindi cya nasira except na natuklap ang net. Marami po ang ngamaze kc halos lahat ng bahay na nakapalibot sa amin ay nasira. Salamat sa Dios sa protection ng aking pamilya at sa aming bahay.
