I've watched a few typical day in Ecuador videos, but none of them looked or felt like my typical day, and so, here's my typical day. Wake up, buy humitas from the street vendors, eat breakfast, do some shopping, puts around the house and the garden, eat lunch, walk around the park, watch people drink milk straight from the goat, and then go out on the town for dinner, drinks, dancing, and music.
Additional search terms: video, Latin America, South America, Quito Ecuador, cost of living, expat, cheap, learning how, fall off the map, Tumbaco, Cumbaya, valle, equator, straw hat, nightlife, clubs, shot on iphone, #ecuador #typicalday #quito #expat #expatlife #cumbaya #tumbaco #falloffthemap #howto #nightlife #streetvendors

For a great deal of English speaking expats that find confusing why Ecuadorians refer to ''seco'' (literally meaning dry) Even though is a wet version of any seasoned dish. It is actually the shortened version of "second" as is always served after la sopa the first part of the meal in the Ecuador tradition. just a bit of trivia. Thanks so much for sharing your videos. you provide an incredible realistic perspective of the life in the beautiful city of Quito and its surroundings Blessings and keep up the amazing work

Danvil man, I wish I could have experienced this place back in the 70’s. Quito is now a little too big and dangerous for my liking, but the smaller towns and suburbs around it are still nice. Lots of expats moving to Manta these days. They love it. My favorite areas are the small cloud forest towns like Mindo and Baeza.

Nice video. My wife is also from Quito, and we lived there for a little over a year (1983-84) after we were first married, and go back fairly frequently. The culture has changed so much over the last 35 years. On my first trips, I was lucky enough to live inside a very traditional Ecuadorean (sierra) culture from the vantage point of a very traditional family. We were married in San Agustin church in 1981.

I get your motivation, smart man, but Ecuadorian women could be a handful, compared to other Latin American women. Cumbaya is a city connected to the University of San Francisco. Ideal for bachelor's. I'm from New York of Puerto Rican decent and truly love Quito's history and culture. It reminds me of San Juan, Puerto Rico. There are so many more things to visit in Ecuador. You haven't even touched the surface. At the airport visit La Famiglia Pizza. My college friend Dan Ross is a co-owner. Small world. Thanks for the video, and stay safe.

Christopher Diaz I have had more problems with crime in the US than in Ecuador. Yes, Ecuador’s rates of petty theft are quite a bit higher, and statistics for violent crime are very slightly higher. However, domestic violence skews the violent crime statistics in Ecuador. Also the violent crime is less random here and more concentrated in specific cities. In other words, yes there is crime, but no it’s not as bad as people imagine.

Thanks. I’m raising a 5 and 13 year old. It is possible, but yes, it’s challenging, and the cost and quality of schools in Ecuador isn’t great. I do believe it gives the kids a big advantage though. My youngest is a dual passport holder. In my opinion that is a very powerful thing that will allow him much greater access to live and work wherever he wants to. The US passport is powerful, but the Ecuadorian passport offers visa free travel to a lot of places the US passport doesn’t, such as Russia, China, and Cuba. It also means he can live and work in several South American countries. Sadly, I haven’t been able to get a US passport for my 13 year old due to legal complications with his biological father.

@FallofftheMap
@FallofftheMap 3 жыл бұрын
Yes, it’s a very popular retirement spot. Healthcare here is super affordable. It can be a little bit of a challenge finding a good doctor, especially if you only use the government healthcare system, but even paying cash out of pocket for the private clinics and hospitals is cheap. Also Ecuador has visas that are designed to attract retirees, and discounts on many services and taxes for people over a certain age. Many people that find that they could just scrape by on social security, move here and live comfortable upper class lifestyles. Of course, it’s not perfect here. It’s a poor country with a weak economy and a lot of corruption. And the trouble in Venezuela has created some issues with street crime. In spite of all that, I feel safer here than I did in Tacoma, Wa where I grew up. My only fear in Ecuador is that economic crisis will create too much instability.

The situation in Quito has been changing pretty quickly. I still live near Quito, but I’m an hour outside of the city now. The valleys near Quito where this video was made are still ok, but the inner city is suffering from a big increase in crime. If I were a new expat moving to Ecuador I would look at places like Cotacatchi and Cuenca for locations in the mountains with other expats, but if you don’t mind being far from other expats and out in the country there’s some pretty amazing places in rural Pichincha province within about a 2 hours drive of Quito. Hey man just discovered your channel and you have some great contents, can’t wait to see more. A small suggestion I would like to make is to edit your videos a little bit more for better transitions, this will help attract more viewers
@FallofftheMap

Mike I agree. Sometimes I just get a little lazy on the editing. Also, there is something to be said for having a little bit rough style. It creates the feeling in the audience that anyone can be successful doing this. The idea is that it’s more accessible, but perhaps I’ve taken that theory a little too far.

Very nice! I am also a expat living in Medellin, Colombia. Got tired of my retirement, just not used to the slow pace life style...not yet! Starting contracting and deploying very soon. Be nice if we could talk, this will be my first deployment.

Another enjoyable video! The streets ARE clean. I’ve spent a lot of time visiting my mom’s family in Bogota. It’s fine, you just have to remain aware of where you are & what’s happening around you. The men were fascinated with my hair & kept calling out “Mona”....

You’d hate Quito then. It’s almost 1000 ft higher than Bogota. For me Quito is a bit too high. Bogota is better, but 2000 to 2400m elevation is my sweet spot. Above the mosquitoes and below the altitude headaches.

Don't forget to visit Cuenca I am also a foreigner here . Your life changes a lot once you mingle with the locals and start a family here . Women here are very different from Northamerica . The family values here are super different from 🇨🇦🇨🇦🇨🇦 I must say and Nightlife is also a thing : You have what's called "Viernes Santo" basically In Cuenca it's a tradition to drink and go out on Fridays and extend to Saturdays. Sundays are recovering from partying on Saturdays and going to Church in the evenings is a cultural thing here too. 🇨🇦🇨🇦🇨🇦🇨🇦🇨🇦🇨🇦🇪🇨🇪🇨🇪🇨🇪🇨🇪🇨🇪🇨🇪🇨

Great video! You appear in good shape - curious if you had any issues with the altitude. I have spent most of my life on the East Coast of USA close to sea level not sure how I would do at such a high elevation. Assume you are fluent in Spanish or at least you can depend on your wife. Do you feel fluency in Spanish is necessary to retire to Ecuador. Finally, other than Quito are there other parts of Ecuador you would recommend? Particularly focused on coastal Ecuador.
