I’m Taiwanese and I’ve always been curious abt what exchange students’ life is like (cause when we hang out, it’s usually when they are drunk lol) thanks for making this video!

Cool Video! I will study at the Shih Chien in Spring. Pls show the Dorm. How many exchange students are there?
@ArniJ.7 ай бұрын
Very cool. There are a couple dorms depending if you’re going to the boys or girls dorms. Right now it seems like we’re about 30-40.

Sorry if this is stupid. But I was wondering why your Chinese class is traditional rather than simplified?
@ArniJ.4 ай бұрын
In Taiwan they use traditional characters, in mainland they use simplified.

I would love to be an exchange student. The question is how much mandarin do I need to know?
@ArniJ.4 ай бұрын
You don’t need to know any mandarin if you don’t feel like it. Nowadays there are translation apps that do everything for you if you want. I had friends that didn’t speak any chinese even after the exchange. It’s really up to you how much you are willing to learn. However, if you don’t learn mandarin, your experience will be more shallow in my opinion.

I struggle with the tones. I want to go for my senior year of high school, so that is where the issue comes in. @@ArniJ.

Because of that, I gave up.

@@mannesthemenace3428 I don't think you need to focus on the tones that much if you just want to speak simple things. I focus less on the tones when speaking and just try to make a similar sound, more like an audio copy of the native speaker. It's important to try different ways of learning to find what works for you.
