The link to the Tyre Reviews website with the full tyre test data: www.tyrereviews.com/Article/2...
Do you want what tyre is best for every day, real world driving? In this test we take eleven of the very best 205/55 R16 tyres on the market, plus a well regarded budget tyre, to see exactly what tyre performs best in the dry, wet, comfort, noise and rolling resistance tests!
It's the Tyre Reviews long overdue, 16" tyre test! The 16" tyres is the most popular size in the world, and is fitted to a large percentage of "daily" cars, so this test will hopefully be relevant to a large number of drivers!
In this test we have twelve of the most popular tyres on the market, including the multiple test winning Continental PremiumContact 6 and Michelin Primacy 4, going up against the new Goodyear EfficientGrip Performance 2, Pirelli Cinturato P7 C2, Uniroyal RainSport 5 and BFGoodrich Advantage, with the usual tyres from Falken ze310 ecorun, Nokian wetproof, Bridgestone turanza t005, Maxxis hp5, Hankook ventus prime 3 and Goodride RP28.
All twelve tyres will be tested in dry and wet handling, dry and wet braking, aquaplaning, internal cabin noise and fuel use, and have subjective grades given to their dry and wet handling, and most importantly for this type of tyre, their comfort levels.
The overall score will be weighted as 35% dry (35% lap time, 10% subjective, 55% braking), 50% wet (35% lap time, 5% subjective, 55% braking, 5% aquaplaning), 7.5% NVH (50% internal noise, 50% comfort) and 7.5% value (80% rolling resistance, 20% price), however if you prefer qualities such as subjective dry handling over wet braking, all the data will be below to allow you to make your own purchase decision.
As always, any questions, please ask below!

Hey all. I realise this much data is a lot to take in, and can only be told in one way. I've tried to be as open and honest as possible with how these tests are scored, but if you want more information I really suggest using the article on the website to make your own buying choice based on the data: www.tyrereviews.co.uk/Article/2020-Tyre-Reviews-Ultimate-Summer-Tyre-Test.htm There's also loads of other tests on the Tyre Reviews website, and user reviews, so you can make the right choice for your own priorities based on multiple information sources :)

I think you timed the video completely wrong. It's the middle of summer, most people already bought summer tires if they needed them. Now is the time for all-season or winter tyres. Or high-performance ones. Or some fun stuff. Other than that, good video.

After 40+ years of obsessive reading about everything automotive this is THE ONLY KZfaq chanel that is really serious about the subject and I highly enjoy and recommend it. About the test: GoodYear will last longer and is cheaper per km(mile),so it's my favorit. Excellent job mate. P.S. All you jerks trying to do a "car test" on YT,take notice. @@korencek I have had 16 cars and all came with different tires. Continental, Michelin, most of the times. On my Son´s car.....I purchased a set of Goodyears to make sure he is safe in all conditions from personal experience. This is my honest opinion as it is my Son and I want hime to be as safe as possible at high speeds. GoodYear has been in my life for 30 years and I really trust them. Today I purchased a set of Continental Premium Contact 6 for myself. I need to test to see if it is as reliable on response and predicting handling as ALL the Good year tires I have used through the Years. I was thinking about falkens already. Now i use Hankook Ventus Prime 3 and when it was new about 8mm it behaved really well on dry and wet in my opinion, now after 2 years and 23 000 km and 5mm left on them I feel more sliding on high speed corners on dry but without ESP reaction, but comparing new one to 5mm on wet it is turning ESP much quicker. Braking efficiency decreased also, the most on wet with a lot of ABS reaction. In 2018 test it was Tire number One. Now it is not. Maybe it something with rubber mixture compared to its price and time (2 years of driving already). Of course it is not that bad at all but im searching for something else, still looking for my favourite Brand, Hankook is much better than Matadors, CEAT, Paxaro, Debica and SAVA I used. Now I have recognized that Hankook is already a Premium Brand.

Great review as usual, been using Falken for the last 3 years with the Fk510 and now the AS210 and can honestly say that even without being a "premium brand" they are amazing at doing their job. Already had Bridgestone, Michelin and Dunlop fit into my cars, the Falken is cheaper than all of them and does not dissapoint at all. Glad to see them at the top!

It's funny because I never realized falken wasn't considered a premium tire. My wildpeaks were the best tire I've ever had, and never heard complaints for their road tires either. I thought Sumitomo was the budget tire. Had HTR Ziii on a car and they were incredible for peak grip

Wow, thanks so much for your in dept and diligence testing these. On my 2012 Mondeo diesel i had some old Kumho tires and just swapped for UniRoyal Rainsport 5, same dimensions as tested. We live in Ireland and have on average every 2nd day rain and i prefer comfort, rain handling and good value. Clear winner for me especially for your average comfort driver with some little nippiness here and there. Thanks again!

Awesome yet again! 🙂 This almost confirms my experience with a few tyres. My dad had Pirelli Cinturato P7s on his car. Was noisier and less smooth and grippy in the wet. Change to Continental Premium Contact and the difference was startling. It was so smooth and quiet. My mom's car came with Michelin Primacys. It had good wet grip but became noisier the older it got. It did make the car feel very darty though. We replaced it with Goodyear Efficient Grip Performance and it is a quiet tyre with good wet grip but the car does not feel as darty as before and it sometimes makes a weird resonant noise depending on surface. It also looks flat even when it is not. Strange but we all noticed it. It bulges out more. As an aside, my car has Pirelli P Zeros which I can not wait to get rid of. Wet grip is awful, it is noisy and makes a lot of noises over ridges and bumps, lots of thumping and when the tyres are cold, the rear wheels just go out of control. It may have something to do with the 640nm of torque but when it is hot it grips much better. Not a fan of Pirelli.

Go Michelin Pilot Sport 4, you will not be disappointed. In the 50+ major tyre reviews, its in top 3 or 5 of all the tests. Year after year. I recommend everybody get them. Tyres are the thing that keeps the car on the road. Dont skimp on spending like $100 extra. (its bugger all in grand scheme of things)

I agree. I feel like I have double the grip and performance on my car, even with the budget General tires, then the hockey-Puck-material Cinturato P7s that came off. Smooth and wet concrete was basically black ice with those deathtraps.

@@FrankieShovels I got just shy of 72,000 miles on the Pirelli P7 Cinturano All Season Plus on my 2014 VW Passat. Agreed wet grip isn't great. Awareness negates crashes if common sense is used. Disclaimer. I monitor and maintain the cold tire pressure every couple of weeks, rotate at regular intervals. Of course an excellent wheel alignment by my VW master tech. Just bought the P7 AS PLUS II. Only a couple of hundred miles. So far so good. Hopefully I'll get great wear and improved wet grip with this new iteration of the P7 Cinturano as plus II. So far, I'm a Pirelli fan over the many sets of Michelins and Conti's I've had. Time will tell.

Many thanks for your efforts. I've been running Contis on my last 2 cars and find them excellent in all areas bar noise and comfort (they're certainly not bad, but I do notice the noise, especially on poorer surfaces and the ride can be a bit harsh over rougher roads), so your findings match my experience. Well then, my purchase of the Goodyear EfficientGrip Performance 2 tyres can be justified. Amazing dry grip and handling (car feels like it's on rails over my previous Japanese tyres, yet to test it in the wet), also there is a significant increase in comfort when going over microbumps in the road as well as noise levels. Plus they are said to run forever, so basically ticking all my boxes when it comes to what I was looking for out of a tyre. Thanks for the review!

Allseasons are pretty much useless Not too strong texture for summer (therefore noisy and bad fuel consumption), and not too soft texture for cold winter (therefore no traction, slippery and dangerous). There's no shortcut with tires. I don't even remember last time i've seen allseasons in a store, 'cause nobody is buying them. Except maybe single women, that can't be bothered with changing wheels..

With the Michelin and the Bridgestone maybe, just MAYBE, they felt so nice and comfy that made you less critical and not really pushing them in a lap. To me that's a nice road tyre. Just a hypothesis on my part. Currently I'm running the Hankook Ventus Prime 3 in 195/50R15 configurations. Felt really true on straight line. Gave me good feedback in corners but that wee bit of understeer, I also feel it.

Bro this test has answered all my nebulous hesitations and misjudgments about tyres in less than 5 minutes! I never expected the Goodyear and the Falken to be so fast, and even less the Falken to be so good at dry braking! And my car is a FWD with probably the same weight class than your Golf so this is golden. Thank you for the huge work. I'm saving this for later... And going for a tire change tomorrow!

I've got a few things on my mind for this test. At first a thing that is hard for you to do but here's a thing that I experienced. Tyres age very differently. We are a big family and have several cars and some of them even use the same tyre size. What I found out is, that Michelin gets extremly noisy when they age although grip is still ok then and depending on the product (Primacy or Alpin etc.) they dry rot pretty fast. Pirelli just loses Grip hideously, the tyres are 5 years old and just skid like mad on a wet road. Also with less profil a Pirelli just looses so much of its perfomance. I had 12 year old Dunlops on another car with the same tyre size and they were just so much better that I almost crashed in the same curve with the Pirelli what would have been a piece of cake for the Dunlops. Goodyear/Dunlop I can actually say not much negative about them although escpecially Goodyear Allseasons have a tendency to create a sawtooth profile which gets very noisy. Also Goodyear Allseasons tend to be to soft for very warm weather. Other than that nothing negative. I miss Nexen here in this test to be honest because I think these are excellent tyres for money and escpecially there Allseason tyre is nothing to laugh about. The wear faster than average but if you have people doing like 5k per year or even less then why not. They change their tyres usually because of age and not of wear and as Nexen is very soft they stay pliable for a little longer although most Nexens are just too young to tell right now as the good products came out in recent years. Winter tyres I can't tell but that's soon be found out. Only thing is they have different product lines with the same name only difference is the tyre label. The less noisy tyres is usually so soft it starts screeching very early at about 40-50% of maximum grip and just gets louder and louder the more you get to a 100% but as they age that gets away. Continental. Well nothing to tell although very pricy nothing negative but went to Goodyear same or sometimes better perfomance for less money. Goodride is better than most people expect from a chinese tyre escpecially if you have experienced a real chinese banger. Then there are Chinese all season tyres which look more or less like a copy of the Hankook Kinergy 4s Gen1 but they're just so much worse. There were three different cars with these and they're just horrible. The first one I can't remember the name but they were horrible enough. The second one was even worse the car had a 2.0HDi with 90Hp and it was no problem spinning the tyres to redline in 3rd gear and wet curves where dangerous it changed between slight understeer and slight oversteer all the time while rocking the car sideways. Horrible!!!! Going the speed limit and stopping on a traffic light which you just barely wouldn't clear on yellow was impossible. You could have fun with them but nooooo. They didn't wear at all. (Peugeot Partner on 16inch) The third one had those imperial ecodriver 4s on them. It's all the same like the second tyre but the car is way less powerful and curves less critical. Still hitting redline in 2 second while spinning from a standstill is no trouble and with a clutch kick even possible in 3rd. When you are stationary on a rutted road and it's wet than it is impossible to get moving without spinning the tyres no matter how carefully you take of. Nonetheless a now 21 year old had a lot of skidding fun with them the last 4 years and drove 70thousans with them and there's still no significant wear on them 2.5mm worn tops. Now the car will go to his younger brother and I bet these tyres will outlive the car. Horrible to drive but perfect for long haul driving. (Toyota Starlet 1998) No ABS or anything. Should include such tyres on a test just for fun. Hope you'll read it and reply. This is just my experience from managing 18 cars and tyres from everybody that is remotely related to me and live scattered 100miles around here.

As much as I love the test in general, I can't go past the fact that you took 91H from Michelin, whereas others were 'at least' V. Not much of a difference, however... perhaps significant enough to have a slightly better subjective handling notes. Presumably H and V might have marginal differences in terms of sidewalls or even the thread behaviour. Awesome test - really! Just gave more trouble picking a replacement for my Sport Maxx RT. This time I'm aiming at the comfort and am close on picking one of these tested here. Thinking of Primacy 4 or EGP2 I just bumped on the fact that different indexes were used in the test. Only, tiny little imperfection here :) Thanks for the awesome tests mate! Helped me before with previous sets, helping this year with a new one as well.

@@tyrereviews Thanks a mil! I'll take your word and experience on it. If Primacy 4 H and V have no structural differences to affect handling (there is 0,04 kg weight difference between them though), then I know what to expect. Still a bit lost now. Primacy 4 vs Pilot Sport 4 for Ford Focus without any track / sporty aspirations (yet with a bit stiffer, 1-1,5 cm lowered 'sport suspension package'), as this is a second car in the family - more comfort and safe ride oriented. Just the fact that I'm switching from Dunlop Sport Max RT keeps me a bit worried if Primacy won't feel too sluggish for a change (205/55/R16 as tested). And there's EGP2 now as well. And my Dunlops were ridiculously quiet for performance tyres. Even on the label they had 67 dB outside, while no other tyre in this test has that. Primacy 68 dB, EGP2 69 dB, PS4 70 dB. Maaan it's so hard to pick the universal touring set for weekend hairpins (from the city to the marina) and holiday cruises now :) It's so much easier to decide when one 'plays it dumb' and doesn't have that knowledge that you feed us with here :) The more you learn, the more difficult the choice is.
