Hi, the N is all about stability. With the engine at the back the N tyres is reinforced to get a good ride. Do only use N!

Correct decision! I have the 4S on my 997.2 and they're much superior to the outdated PS2s (or equally outdated and even worse P Zeros), modified / approved by Porsche or not!

I'm a total novice, particularly when it comes to tyres, but for what it's worth... I would go with the N spec. When you're driving a powerful sports car like a Porsche and, if you like to really drive your 911 like a 911, I would want the confidence that my tyres have the best chance of performing and holding up the way the car needs them to. Or at least the Porsche wants them too. Good luck! 🍀👍

Just changing my tyres and I have pilot sport tyres on the rear and Pirelli tyres on the front because that was what was on the car when I bought it and now that one of my front tyres has been damaged I am getting Pilot Sport N2 tyres to replace the Pirelli tyres. It’s better to go with the manufactures recommended tyres in a sports car.

Same dilemma i faced. I went with N spec (N2) PS2's. I read a lot about this and as you know mixed opinions. Some owners go for the Pilot Sport 4s. I was tempted and almost did as well. In the end I stuck with the N spec. I guess the tyre was originally differentiated for the 911so thats good enough for me.

I think you made the right choice - if you were driving the 997 hard on a track or in extreme conditions (+45°C or -20°C) I’d recommend you rethink your choice, but I think the newer tyre design will serve you well. I cannot wait to see the ‘lobsters’ on the car. I’m about to get some Turbo 997 wheels as my ‘winter set’, so currently going through the dilemma of rubber choice for ~ -20°C snow driving in Colorado. Sadly Michelin don’t make the Alpins in 19” wheels, so looking at Pirelli Winter Sottozerro Serie II instead.

Ah, having second thoughts this morning. Trying to locate some PS2's now from another supplier. Thinking maybe I should go with the N Spec. Placed one of the 'lobsters' next to my car the other day... think they will look good, just not as fat as the Techarts. Although, sometimes the Techarts look a little too 'flashy' for the 911.

Michael Bath You can’t go wrong with the Pilot Sports, I was more interested to see how the alternative choice performs • there’s too few tire pioneers out there 😬. I’m biased against anything chrome on modern cars, so I’m not the best to comment on the Techarts, I AM heavily biased toward the refinished Lobsters, that colour looks STUNNING.

I'd have worn-out a set of 'N'-rated tyres whilst waiting for the any future Porsche approvals. Nonetheless, any new tyres should feel noticeably smoother and grippier. Good luck and enjoy!

Four years have passed, and there still is no newer approved (N-rated) tire than the PS2. Bummer, really.

Hello. I'm having the same issue for my 718 Boxster : sticking with the N-rated tires (Pirelli P-Zero) or going to... the Michelin Pilot Sport 4S. Can you inform me if your Michelin choice indeed was the correct choice ? I can't comprehend that Porsche has no N-rated Michelin PS4S for the 718... Thank you for a reply.

For me it was. I prefer as per Porsche's guidelines and testing. Although the PS4S is supposed to be an amazing tyre. We talk about this on this Fridays episode of the PorscheCooled Podcast.

Why would you not go with the recommended tyres from Porsche. Unless you think your knowledge extends further than Porsches RnD.

Michelin Pilot Sport 4 S respective Size, load, speed all the same as the Michelin PS2's . Although, I kinda agree with you ... this morning i am having second thoughts. My preferred tyre dealer couldn't get the fronts in the correct size yesterday. This morning i have found them elsewhere. If the price is competitive, then it looks like i will end up getting the PS2 N2 Spec after all. Thanks for watching.

WiredJunkie if Porsche hasn't rated the newer tire yet and other 911 drivers swear by them I could see going non N-spec. Just a timing issue.
