In 1994 I was staying at the Atlantic Beach Club in Negril and we wandered over to a little bar built out of palm thatch on the beach. A DJ began to start a 90 min reggae session and he played this song by Tryone Taylor. I was blown away and I actually felt tears in my eyes as I looked around, took a nice big puff on the sensei and gargled a red stripe...I knew I would remember the moment forever...Jah Bless!

The original and best version of this classic. I lived on the west end in 1991 at Crotton grove cottages, Peewee's was my local but spent too much time at de bus, hurricane bar and many of those small great places! I met my wife there and this is 'our song'. I didn't get to see Tyrone but saw Gregory a few times, Yellowman & Ziggy. Cool times indeed for a young man. I returned and lived in Mo'bay a few years later for a year.

When I was a student in Southampton back in the early 80's we used to like to go to the West Indian Club in Brintons Road, and of all the lovers rock the DJ used to play in the "erection section", Cottage in Negril was my favourite. It is such an evocative song for me, and generates so many great memories. I still have the 12" EP of it on vinyl up in my attic. Tyrone, your genius was not properly recognized. May you rest in peace.

If I was younger, I'd dance the night away. Evocative song; reminds me of here in South Africa during the 80s, state police and the army terrorizing citizens, kicking doors down at night, daily marches and burnings, and yet somewhere in the background music would bring us together, soothing the thorny road we travelled to reach this point....®®®

Variety is good, everyone has different taste and should. I love this song but I like others as well. I would love to make the world in my image but I know there would be so much I would miss, or don’t know about if that was to happen, so am happy we have so much variety in this little island. Love for this type of music comes with maturity, pain, lost and understanding what is important in life.

I had the privilege of meeting Tyrone at Alfred's in Negril - probably 1993-94. At my request, he sang "Little Cottage ...". I met him again when he dropped by my little cottage on the West end. He was not at his best and his demons were harassing him, but I did not judge. He sang a few lyrics from a song he said he was writing for me. Thanks, Tyrone, for the memories. RIP. ♥
