Footage from the documentary "The Secrets of Khomei, Voices From Tuva"
Lyrics (translated from questionable subtitles):
(All)
On this earth we live
we live for centuries here
This is Tuva, our country
and we are Tuvans!
(Second verse missing)
(Ayan-ool Sam)
The country is our life
Delighted are our hearts
Because we still live in the same way
That we have always lived
(Bady-Dorzhu Ondar)
As long as our steppe exists
As long as our taiga exists
We remain here
Until the end of days
(All)
If we want to remain true Tuvans
We must always keep singing our khöömei
If we let our voices sound
We bring our people happiness
--
From what very, very little Tuvan I know, I'm pretty sure these lyrics are inaccurate. They don't seem to correspond to the words being spoken. The translated lyrics were probably altered to sound good in Dutch. Translating them to English further confuses the point.

At 0:47 while the kid in the middle is singing the kid on the left is clearly excited because you see him smiling like he is having the time of his life. It is very heart warming to see. Also when it is his turn to sing you can see on his face that he is having fun. I recently found out that all three of these kids grew up and made a group all together. Their singing lives on!

It’s very sad that Ondar died. Many people in the United States don’t even know who he is, but he is extremely popular in his native land. When it comes to throat singing, Ondar is the most recognized. Kongar-ol Ondar is the greatest throat singer of all time. Rest In Peace!...

The Tuvan will outlive us in my opinion. The steppe is harsh but it builds resilience especially in nomadic tribes. Humanity has become too indulged in comfort that majority of us has forgot how to sustain ourselves.

These are Dutch subtitles. And the translation brings even more meaning to the song. They do not only bring happiness to the Tuvinians, but to many people worldwide. We live on this earth We have lived here for centuries This is Tuva, our country And we are Tuvinians Rich is our life Our hearts are delighted Because we still live the same way we have always lived As long as our steppe exists, as long as our Taiga exists, we will stay here for days to come If we want to remain true Tuvinians, we must always keep singing our khomei If we raise our voices, we bring happiness to our people.

This makes me think of a man quietly walking with his horse, following a path among the mountain tops leading to his little cottage where he lives with his humble wife and two lovely children, the smell of freshly baked pie begins to get stronger as he approaches this place he and his humble family call home, as dawn begins to settle, the rays of the sun gets faded and faded...slowly transitioning into the dark sky with the bright contrasting moon.

Askar Turebekov I always thought so, by the way the long braid is called a "queue". Also read an article by a Borjijin Mongol who traveled in Tuva, and Tuvans say Tuvans and Manchus share the same hairstyle, both nations believe the queue is where the soul reside. So yea, Tuvans are our brothers

yup, and i later found out the name of that the guy playing the igil, but i cant remember his name. he was also present at Kongar-ool' funeral. iirc he was one of the men carrying his medals. search "alash father" and you'll see footage of him carrying a medal next to Bady. i don't know the youngest kid, however. :) i don't think he was ever in alash? EDIT: oh yeah, now i remember! the guy with the igil is none other than evgeny saryglar, if i'm not mistaken :)
